'Ghetto Dude'.... overreaction by the media?
http://www.thestar.com/News/Ontario/article/239069
What do you guys think about this 'Ghetto Dude' story about this black U of T student who got an e-mail from queens park (I dont know if this was sent to him by accident..?) about his job application where the writer referred to him as 'ghetto dude'?
like yeah its inappropriate and the guy deserves an apology and all, but i think the media is making way too big a deal about this, acting like he is a suffering victim....
It says that all the media are lining up for interviews with this guy....?
and everyone is offering jobs to this 'victim' of racial harassment...?
last time i checked 'ghetto dude' wasnt the most offensive word in the dictionary.... and the guy is being a bit of a cry baby about it, "and still feels "remarkably unsatisfied," as he put it, by the sense that senior government bureaucrats are "trying to minimize this incident" by referring to Aileen Siu, the employee involved, as inexperienced and a recent graduate."
minimize this incident? so some idiot uses a mildly offensive term.... accept the apology, realise the person is probably socially retarded, and get over it!
anyways, maybe i am just an asshole... what do u guys think?
Kinda offensive, pretty funny, definite overreaction.
I dont know 1 black guy who uses the word 'dude' ever....so calling a black guy 'ghetto dude' doesn't seem to make too much sense.
its like emailing an asian guy and saying "s'up bredrin"...
a slow day for the media i guess.

In Canada it definately pays to play the role of the victim. This is typical.
What kind of world do we live in where whiners and the undeserving are rewarded simply for being victims? People want to give this asshole a job? Fuck him I say.
edit: Ok ok, I just read the article...and it says he's been "lauded for his dignity"?? You've got to be fucking kidding me.

So now the ghetto dude gets more opportunitys for being ghetto.
hahaha the lauded for his dignity thing is ridiculous.... like we have to commend this guy through this extremely rough period in his life that was called by him being call 'ghetto dude'
and yeah i also thought this story was very similar to the '****** brown' couch story, where a chinese couch manufacturer called the color of a couch ****** brown, they claim it was just due to poor translation from 'chinese' to english
excuse my ignorance, but judging by the name 'eileen sui', i would think she is probably asian and english might not be her first language, so maybe she just used the wrong word by accident.... maybe by 'ghetto dude' she actually meant 'cool' or 'hip' dude... hahaha
by the way, how would he have gotten an e-mail back regarding a job application referring to him as ghetto dude, i cant imagine what it would have said....
"dear Ghetto dude"
or
"thank you for applying for the job ghetto dude...."
hahaha i feel it was a message from one co-worker to another that was accidentally sent to him, where they were discussing this guy.... cuz why would they refer to him as ghetto dude... in an e-mail to him....
Thats it!
Next time someone calls me a caker im applying for a massive government grant!
hopefully this guy is not as big of a pussy as he sounds, and he is actually smart and milking this for all its worth..... because in canada, this sort of thing will get you somewhere...
its already gonna get him a good job, and he will probably be seen as some canadian hero for enduring this severe racial harassment and standing up to it, hahaha... and will be seen as a human rights leader in the future...
pretty ridiculous but he might as well take advantage of the situation
