Why don't DJ's play hard music anymore?

Why don't DJ's play hard music anymore. I went to Eclipse festival and the DJ's where great. Some really hard trancy sets. Everyone loves hard fast tempo beats so why don't the clubs here play anything good?

+1 to Enjoy.

Harder tech house and harder prog are good at peaktime sets, but hard techno is over the top and has been for years, also "hard" doesn't nessecarily mean tempo, it can mean the way a track is, huge bassline, upbeat and HUGE kick drum, the kinda stuff you aren't ready for till the middle of the night out.

And even then, these "hard trancy sets" are just an old, cheesy, unrefined sounds to a seemingly large portion of the people who have been with the scene long enough for their tastes to evolve along with the music...

Techno is still my favorite genre but its just not popular here in Montreal anymore. A while back it ruled Aria but everything changed and so has everyones taste. If you want proof of how amazing it was go watch the videos on EDMM if Malek fixes all of the broken links

That's what I am talking about. When Aria had Preach playing hard techno the place was packed every weekend. As soon as Aria stopped having there hard nights the scene went to shit. I've never heard anyone say the music is too uplifting. And hard techno and trance is not unsophisicted as someone previously mentioned. I am just sick of going out and sitting down half the night cause the music is not uplifting. That was the whole point of the scene in the first place. Lately the music all sounds the same - a set will be like one long track. New people will not be interested in this which is probably the reason the scene is so small now.
Come on DJ's get with it and start playing more uplifting music. You will see more people smiling and dancing and having a good time.

The only good DJ left is Preach..

No. Its the other way around. In 2004-05-06, schranz, hard techno, and even techno started disappearing all over the world. Only some big names continued to do their act (Carl Cox, DJ Rush, Preach [which got a little trancier]), but overall, all the big name techno DJs started getting the minimal buzz (Misstress Barbara, Chris Liebing, Adam Beyer, etc) or got into a more house-oriented music. Aria saw that and stopped booking techno DJs. And that was a good thing. Hard EDM is good, during approximately 5 minutes.

If you want techno nowadays, you can find it in specialized festivals, such as Monegros Desert Festival in Spain, which is 24 hours non-stop techno over 140 BPM. Good luck without teh yeyo

Where are you people from? How long have you been in the scene for?
No wonder the scene is shit here. I can't wait to move the hell out of this weird city. Good luck with your boring dance scene.

some names i remember from last year

tenaglia, hawtin, prodigy, nitzer ebb, howells....

i play fun uplifiting music, i just don't play it so goddamn fast! I don't like dancig to shit above 140, it's too much.

Blame the natural progression of music.

wow, Nitzer Ebb, they are classic! WRT 140bmp, even most of the downloads I've gotten from the techno time link are too fast for me. Hard charging techno is the best, but not fast charging..

I can admit I was/am quite disappointed with what seemed like a mass migration of my favourite techno DJs playing mellower sets in recent years... but since moving over to this side of the Atlantic, there seems to still be a demand for good pumpin techno!
I'm encouraged by what I have been hearing lately... there don't seem to be as many quality harder tek releases compared to a few years ago, but there are still some and artists playing them.
Give it time... the bpm's will pick up again

noooooo! I will call techno, "no tech" if that happens

Posted by PezCore on Aug-07-2007 19:23:

because most of the musik played at eclipse was full-on psy-trance, and it's not a very popular genre. If you listen to more psy-trance sets, you'd realise that some DJs still mix that genre (see Guy Salama).

and yes, the music at eclipse ruled !! haven't heard good full-on like that in a long time !

There seemed to be a lot more people at Eclipse than Stereo or Eclipse gets in a month.

Your right the music ruled, it was a nice break from what they play at the clubs.

I just don't get why they don't have a club that plays hard trace and techno every weekend. I am sure it would revive the scene.
Most people like reasably fast beats (not gabberhouse or hardcore) and don't know anything about the music.

Anyways, it's a shame. It used to be great to party in Montral now it's boring. Altough trancemission and tribeoliscous at Stereo are pretty good.

One thing that is great about the scene in MO is that there are barely any thugs. I partied in Toronto and you have to be really careful.
