and you thought citric_acid's phone bill was bad....

300 pages?
30,000 text messages?!?!?!?!

that's (on average) about 45 text messages an HOUR for a full month.

i don't know what's more crazy - the amount of texts she sent, or AT&T for itemizing it.

The 300-Page iPhone Bill from AT&T (Video)

Tuesday August 14, 2007 10:08 AM CDT - By: Michael Kwan

Everyone is jumping over backwards in excitement over receiving an iPhone. It may not be the best device on the market -- NASA can attest to that -- but it's got to be one of the most attractive. But about when you receive that bill at the end of the month? What could possibly warrant a bill that takes up 300 pages and actually gets sent in a box rather than an envelope?

Well, those questions were asked and, in turn, answered by the beautiful Justine. You may know here from JustineTV, but even if you don't the video embedded below is certainly worth a gander. Yes, her first iPhone bill from AT&T was three hundred freaking pages.

Anyways, if you're interested in why her bill was 300 pages, check out this transcript:
quote:

Addy: What were you doing with your iPhone to merit a 300-page breakdown?
Justine: Mostly just texts, which I believe was almost 30,000. I only used about 200 of the 900 minutes [of talk.]

Addy: Was that more use than your Treo?
Justine: That's about average of what I've have on my Treo, which I still haven't got rid of it. Thankfully this bill didn't take into account the texts I still recieved on that phone of we'd have a few extra pages for sure.

Addy; So how much was the total?
Justine: The bill came to $274.81. Supposedly I have unlimited text/data so most of the charges I'm assuming were activation and a prorated bill. That's what it looks like anyway!

Addy: And how much did it cost AT&T to send that monster?
Justine: As far as sending the package, I ripped off the label, but I think it was around $7 to send.

at&t goes on a rampage: will destroy 74,535 trees to make iphone service bills
Filed under: other muhammad saleem @ 9:48 am

while the exact number is yet to be determined, current consensus puts the number of iphones sold at 270,000 for the first day and a half of sales, and expectations at around 10 million devices to be sold by the end of 2008. if during this time at&t does not get its act together and stop sending out bills that are averaging 50 pages in length, theyre going to have a lot more than just unsatisfied customers after them.

before we go on, lets look at some quick paper facts (pdf):

A cord of wood is approximately 8 feet wide, 4 feet deep, and 4 feet high. A cord of air-dried, dense hardwood (oak, hickory, etc.) weighs roughly 2 tons, about 15-20 percent of which is water. It has been estimated that one cord of this wood will yield one of these approximate quantities of products:

1,000-2,000 pounds of paper (depending on the process)
 942 100-page, hard-cover books
 61,370 No. 10 business envelopes
 4,384,000 commemorative-sized postage stamps
 460,000 personal checks
 1,200 copies of National Geographic
2,700 copies of an average daily newspaper

that said, with 10 million iphones expected to be sold by the end of 2008, that means 10 million at&t customers that can expect to get 50-page bills, 12 times a year, totaling 6 billion sheets of paper wasted (at around 80,500 sheets of paper per tree, this would mean around 74,535 trees) because of at&ts stupidity. of course sales arent going to stop there so its up to us to stop at&t from continuing this madness.

As you enjoy your weekend, ponder this bit of humor: while the iPhone may be master of the digital mobile experience (for now), dead trees come in for a flogging, as AT&T's iPhone bills are quite impressive in their own right. We're starting to get bills for the iPhone here at Ars, and while many of us have had smartphones for some time, we've never seen a bill like this.

One of our bills is a whopping 52 pages long, and my own bill is 34 pages long. They're printed on both sides, too. What gives?

The AT&T bill itemizes your data usage whenever you surf the Internet via EDGE, even if you're signed up for the unlimited data plan. AT&T also goes into an incredible amount of detail to tell youwell, almost nothing. For instance, I know that on July 27 at 3:21 p.m. I had some data use that, under the To/From heading, AT&T has helpfully listed as "Data Transfer." The Type of file? "Data." My total charge? $0.00.

This mind-numbing detail goes on for 52 double-sided pages (for 104 printed pages!) with absolutely no variance except the size of the files.

totally. I don't understand people who don't upgrade. Even people who say " I don't send a lot" still end up regreting not getting it at some point.

My bf didn't have unlimited at first. He had some bullshit 1000 free.

But that's just underestimating my texting abilities.

Couple months later he joined the unlimited club

Are one of those annoying couples that when you'er not together you're constantly texting?

I've got friends like that who make me want to break their phone. I think it's so rude.
