Tenori-On Launched Finally!!

Well for all you who've been waiting the past few years, Tenori-on is finally here. Albeit only for sale in UK at the moment but it seems to deliver everything that's been promised, and all the tidbits that have been revealed the past 6 months seem to wipe the floor with every other live performance sequencing device.
As it's only for sale in the UK at the moment, is there anyone over there who I could send mine to and have you ship it to me (I'd be happy to make it worth the effort)???

Holy crap. This thing looks amazing from the video. It's like a Kaoss Pad on crack.

| Originally posted by SPAWNmaster completely different. tenori-on is standalone device for sequencing and live looping. it does have midi in/out but its completely self operating and you can load your own sample banks in via SD card. monome is more of a controller. |
What a stupid shit.. Waste of money
It's definately rad, but I have yet to see it used to its full potential. Going to have to wait 'til Youtube gets some videos up of people's custom samples. Only videos I've seen are of it using beep sounds in a seemingly random, yet decently melodic, way.
The moment someone makes a univeral Max/MSP plugin for it, it'll take off. IF they haven't already, that is.
Probably going to be $1200 in the US.
Looks sleek, has seemingly enough functionability, and is really cool that you can play using batteries in case of worst case scenerios. That being said i didnt want to wait that long. I also asked myself if the designer would "get it" if i walkeed up to him and went "unst unst unst unst".
I took in those 2 factors and settled on this:

(zero8)
I'm pretty happy, and if i get a real itch to see the Tenori in action, there will probably be huge workshops on it at Mutek next year. It looks really slick, and in my experience, everything i have ever bought for music that has looked slick usually isn't as slick in other ways. Honestly i would wait and see what problems people have with them first before buying one. That Led display looks like beatiful potential for uselessness during failure. Just my opinion of course, The Zero8 is really sturdy and has pretty lights too.
ps. i don't mean to be rude, but paying to have that thing shipped from england is one of the dumbest moves you can ever make. It will cost a fortune to ship. First generation consoles are firt generation consoles. If anything goes tits up on it its going to cost more and more and amore until you wish the day you stopped using traktor never came. It is generally a bad move to buy anything you can't get your hands on to see if you are compatible with it. (i know it sounds weird, but i have seen ,many people buy stuff without trying first then absolutely regret their purchase. Reality is, you will still be cool and asve money if you wait. Worse case (i dont know about us availability), but Moog Audio in Montreel has them starting October 1st. (Way less shipping fees, although being mutek town im sure they are probably all spoken for. Call and see iof you can save a bit at least.)
i wanna get one of these if only to use it as a fun party toy.
"yo man lets get fucked up and play with tenori!"

here is the link anyways just in case you want to read the opinions of people in a different language that have more talent than you.
There are three new videos on there.
the only thing i will translate is mateo murphy had to set up villalobos gear once at mutek because he didn't know how. Another idiot seems to think it is just a nicer koas pad.
i found that funny
Meh.
I'll take a Lemur thanks.
I think that this whatchamacallit will be hours of pleasure and that one goes visible a couple to mutek the next year. While passing, about Uwe (Atom), this is not the biggest geek than one knows. When it replaced on foot raised Villalobos, one passed to him a 303, but this is Mateo Murphy that programed it for him. Atom is advantage a pure artist that a craftsman*.

...not bad for a free translator.

(for Yakov Smirnov) Pheek seems interested but he will wait to see them at Mutek. I'm no genius, but Pheek isn't far from being one...and honestly if the Tenori doesn't make him hard and I more apt to follow his lead. Come to Mutek next year inconspicuous. If you like audio gadgets you should see the stuff they unleash. You almost forget that it is about music too.
I just can't get over the fact that a free translator spat out "whatchamacallit."
I don't know what to call Pheeks music either sometimes.

a full review of the tenori.
I don't think you should waste all that money on a gadeget that is that useless live...It more of a toy than anything as you will see in that. Its functionability is more restricted than even I thought.
I hear ya. I was originally under the impression that you would be able to load your own samples. Unless I missed something, this doesn't seem to be the case. The only use I'd see for it then is a toy and/or a midi interface requiring someone to spend a shload of time writing software.
Wonder if anyone has a monome-like unit in the works for mass production...
You can load your own samples. You don't have freedom to switch it up and launch loops that aren't in order. It a cool gadget, but for that price it just doesnt cut it.
