I can think of many more appropriate adjectives than 'seminal'.

As if destroying progressive trance wasn't enough, they now have to destroy Goa too.

Posted by Clovis on Oct-25-2007 16:10:

WOW that looks sooooo cool, I think I'll enter this.

Posted by isoterra on Oct-25-2007 16:48:

it's kinda depressing to think that most people entering this will think 'anjunabeach' is a neat name for a beach party that above & abysmal have thought up...

completely inappropriate location when you compare goa's musical heritage with the stuff they make. infact i have to wonder why they even chose that name for their label...

Posted by DJ Mikey Mike on Oct-25-2007 16:58:

Worth entering for the free trip to Goa. Fuck going to the event though - What a load of shit that will be.

Posted by Ted Promo on Oct-25-2007 17:50:

God, now they are trying to commercialize goa? Fuck that.

Hasn't goa been commercialized for a long time now?

Either way, this competition would be fucking sweet to win. I've always wanted to go to India.

To be honest, Goa's association with specific genres of trance and its alleged connections with drugs has tainted the name and heritage of such a massively wonderful city. It's not to say that a lot of it isn't just public perception and unfounded beliefs, but it needs some sort of change, some innovation to make it what it once was again (Not that it isnt great anyway, but stil)

The event sees people like John OO Fleming coming down as well the next day along with a whole host of other big name Dj's. Above and beyond may not be the best place to start, and I agree, they have pretty purposely garnered a lot of hype by choosing the particular name for their label, since Goa had nothing to do with the commercial trance that they make, and saying they are going back to the place where it all started just sounds funny coming from them, but it's obviously a marketing gimmick, and one that a lot of people are going to fall for. I'm going as well, for sure, not as much because of the party, but because there is absolutely nothing better in the world than to celebrate the end of the year on Anjuna or Baga or Calangute with tens of thousands of people all over the world, and if this event helps bring more people to Goa, and hopefully let them see and associate things with Goa on their own, then it cant be all bad.

It would be awesome to go see the Joof there.

...so now it's cool to hate Above & Beyond, just like Armin, Ferry and Tiesticles?

God some of you are sheeps.

Aboye & Beyond have done some awesome work in their time - Razorfish is a complete classic.

...as for the whole "they tainted goa's name, wah wah" thing - that may well be true, but most of you have never been to goa, never will go, have no idea of the scene there, and no idea of the influence it had on trance music, because you were five years old at the time - so just can the bullshit, and stop pretending like Above & Beyond has declared war on your place of birth, when really it's a place you have no connection with and know jack shit about.

this isn't a new thing, evidently you've been ignorant enough to not notice it before. their post-2003 productions have ranged from mediocre to shite and they've always been pathetic excuses for DJs; i know this from being out at clubs and having to endure them on multiple occasions, not because others on here say so.

well i sure as hell didn't have to spend half my life there to get a rough idea of the music given an entire fucking GENRE is named after it.. and above & abysmal have about as much in common with it as james blunt does to thrash metal. it doesn't particularly bother me as such, it just baffles me why they decided to hold it there when their label has nothing to do with anjuna beach besides sharing a name

Posted by smakmagik on Oct-25-2007 22:14:

Reiterating my post, whatever Above and Beyond have done for the trance scene, whether good or bad, it has NOTHING to do with Anjuna, or Goa for that matter. That is a completely different scene and they know that. They are just associating themselves with the place for added publicity.

Those of you though who haven't been to Goa, please try and go. You'll never forget it.

Quick question before we continue here...

Have you ever been?

I didn't really like them in 2001 when their sound was brand new, and after 6 years of repackaging the same shit I like them even less now, especially as 90% of the artists signed to their label do nothing but copy their sound.

You'll have to go to it. That's where you will be able to receive you plane ticket back home.

Posted by ibizzzaaa on Oct-25-2007 23:36:

Shit, I just realized that Anjuna Beach is an actual place. Thought this was just the name of the event hosted by A&B. Damn, that makes this whole affair even more fucked up.

yeah, read my posts above. Anjuna is one of the best beaches in Goa.
They just took the name of their label because of its association with Goa
