just do it. if something gets fishy, just get in your car and talk to them in person. The UK is down the street and to the left past the Starbucks, right?

Do what I do in this situation. Search on MySpace for the guys name, if he has a profile then that means he's real and it's probably legit.

Ok, if she responds, how many emails you guys think before someone from Nigeria asks for her bank account number?

Re: Clever Scam?

Send them a celebrity's name and address or something.

Posted by Omega_M on Nov-11-2007 23:18:

Clever Scam?

Ofcourse. And its not even clever.

Now get back to work. You ain't rich.

Posted by noikeee on Nov-11-2007 23:20:

Why even the need to ask? This shit is like the 1000000th version of the nigerian scam, poorly disguised. Come on, someone that has used the internet for at least 4 years shouldn't have doubts about this.

Posted by Ygrene on Nov-11-2007 23:22:

I dunno. Do you think an organization like The British National Lottery would use hotmail for email?

Posted by leph555 on Nov-12-2007 00:16:

About 2 years ago i have actually received letters from spain saying that i won a lottery and i have to go to spain and claim it

Posted by jupiterone on Nov-12-2007 00:18:

Hahaha, I got one of those in the mail 2 or so weeks ago. I wished it were real

lol, funny. Your post was quite predicted as well. Are you a person or a bot?

One of our dipstick secretaries at work was convinced that one of those flashing banner ads told her she'd won a free laptop. Just about had to slap her to stop her using a work email as the reply. She was dead set convinced, no one could tell her otherwise and I think provided nature provides a steady stream of dumb, greedy people, the internets will provide such things.

"Suck My Dick, And enter for a chance to Win A Free Laptop!

Posted by Akridrot on Nov-12-2007 01:02:

You guys aren't paying attention.

Posted by AnomalyConcept on Nov-12-2007 01:57:

You could also do a search with key parts of the email such as the email address, subject line, even the contents. If it's one that has been seen before, someone is bound to have posted it with information on whether it is legitimate or not.

If you get any matches, chances are that it's not legitimate. I mean, think about it: if someone else received the same email with the exact same reference numbers or any bit that should be unique, it obviously is anything but.

Why would she bother?

It's so obviously a scam. I can't believe you're entertaining the idea that it's real lol.

I'm positive it's 100% real and think Theresa should go for it and then post about her experience.

Maybe even create a "LiveJournal" or something. Interesting stuff, this.

Posted by Silky Johnson on Nov-12-2007 04:12:

You know how I know it's bullshit? Cause the letter is from Steven Smith, who has the email address [email protected], but they're asking you to email GARY BALDWIN.

SOMETHING WRONG HERE. IS STEVEN SMITH THE ONLINE COORDINATOR OR IS IT GARY BALDWIN???? OMGGGGG I"M SO CONFUSSEEDDDD!!!!!

Posted by Mr.Mystery on Nov-12-2007 04:20:

Gary Baldwin is the presenter. You know, the lesser known Baldwin brother.
