4chan user gets 114,000 fine from CIA for posting school mall shooting image macro

Ok can't find the new story (someone post please... a quick google and I couldn't find it) but basicly some guy from over here (melbourne) posted the picture of the guy that shot everyone at that us mall and said he was going to shoot everyone until he was either dead or capacitated on 4CHAN.ORG!!!

Now he's facing 5 years jail (Australian laws) and 114,000 in costs to find him from the U.S.

I'm just reading this on the front page of the sunday herald sun (most popular newspaper) here and I'm thinking crap... this guy musta sent an email to a mall or something. Then i find out its a thing posted of 4chan. I mean seriously fucking get over yourself... 4chan is not a representative of what actually happens in real life (girls usually don't have penises either). I mean seriously... 4chan!!!

This has to be the biggest piece of crap fine/jail sentence ever. I mean seriously of all the fucking websites. What kind of dumbass CIA chases a guy that posts an image macro and a few death threats at 4chan.org.

This doesn't quite top the chaser sneaking a guy in an osama suit into the world meeting in Australia but it sure as hell is close. In either case neither persons/people should have been penalised.

Discuss (oh yes and post news story too please)a

Well this is the US we are talking about. Oh the other thing I forgot to mention is the only reason the us "apparently" took it seriously is that it was posted 9 hours after the shooting.

I'm really tempted to after a similar news story goto a local library make a 4chan alt and do something similar just to waste the CIAs money.

4chan is american based? for some reason i thought it was a japan thing? at least, all i ever saw on it was anime porn :unasty:

I'd hit it

Posted by idoru on Dec-09-2007 09:19:

I really don't buy the validity of this story at all. Yes, its "the US we are talking about," but that seems just a tad far-fetched even for our government. The lack of any news article makes me doubt this even more.

I meant the US CIA taking them seriously.

Hmm well I can't find it on the sunday herald sun website... maybe they realised it was actually an incredibly dumb story.

[Edit] Linkage http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/.../08/2113447.htm that link doesn't say much... I'll try and find a better one.

Sorry tired atm... it's the CIA not military btw thanks for age article.

BTW didn't hear about it being a star wars stormtroopers blaster. Ads even more stupidity to the US CIA

Everybody knows what Star Wars is and what a fucking Stormtrooper blaster looks like. Wow.

If the CIA could have things its way, nobody, anywhere, would hear about the story at all. It's in its best interest to keep people ignorant. There really is nothing too "Far-fetched" when it comes to what people and organizations will do in the name of "national security".

Oh wait. I think the CIA can't fine a person or an entity. They don't have the authority. All they can do is collect information.

...correct or incorrect?

Posted by SuspicionVandit on Dec-10-2007 00:06:

I believe they can do whatever they want

I think they destroyed their own incriminating evidence regarding torture/EITs and seems everyone is "cool with it"

Posted by RJT on Dec-10-2007 00:07:

I don't understand what's real or what exactly is going on with this nonsense, but either way, I support anyone doing anything (just or unjust) to bring down 4chan gimps.

Food for Thought: If Hitler had chosen to destroy 4chan as opposed to Jews, we'd all be praising him as a hero.

You disappoint me.

Meh - it's 4chan. You'd be hard pressed to find anyone to fight for their rights, deserved or not.

I like oligarchies.

They videotaped the collection of data (torturing detainees for info). And then destroyed the videotape.

I'm not cool with that (which is of no consequence one way or the other, seeing as I'm not american and even if I were my opinion would mean nothing in the grand scheme of things) BUT issuing a fine is different. A court could issue a fine. But an intelligence collecting agency? I don't think so...

But yeah, I don't "know" this.

Hey, I represent that remark!

I'd like to hope I don't come off as terribly zealous and naieve as that sounds though...

In any case, "America" is not the enemy. It's fascist thought and action perpetrated upon undeserving people. And in this world, might is made right, and even applauded by fans of what they believe to be some sort of "order".

Posted by RJT on Dec-10-2007 00:33:

All I know is there are plenty of imperialist dickhead facist nations our there - just because America is the huge fuckup du jour doesn't make their sins any less awful.

I don't like it anymore than you, but if we're going to condemn douchebaggery, let's do it universally - there are loads of other countries full of idiot cunts out there too, they just have leaders smart enough to avoid getting caught (for the time being).

Edit: And people who post on 4chan don't have any rights as far as I'm concerned.

Here, here.

And yeah, "rights" are mostly bullshit in the first place. Like, TAs shouldn't have "rights" outside of the right to privacy - this is an international forum, so only international laws should even apply... which are, I believe, almost restricted only to not flying planes into building or sharing child pornography. I guess with that in mind, 4chan does sort of violate both of those, hmm....

I think we're officially through the looking glass here people.

Posted by Halcyon+On+On on Dec-10-2007 00:50:

Look, people who hack others' myspaces and post/email volumes of gay porn to their friends and family are A-OK in my book.

I suppose I do, however, hate browsing /b/ and occasionally seeing naked 12 year-olds.

Speaking of which, what did we do to scare off igottaknow? Would the same thing work on josh4?
