Thumbs up Review: Gift 2007 @ The Guvernment (12-22-2007)

do I have to do everything around here? lol!

Here's a short version:

I heard Almost everything and anything I wanted to hear from the Best of Trance (1998-2003) , Met so many old friends and enjoyed the vibe immensely from the start to finish.

now it's your turn;

I was wondering who was going to finally start this, lol.

Had a pretty decent time although I ended up spending alot of time in the gallery, which was f'n awesome as always. I'm ashamed that I missed out on what was special that evening, but did catch two huge bombs in the main room (born slippy and adagio for strings)

Posted by electro88 on Dec-24-2007 19:01:

alot of nice songs were played, I think the Braveheart theme song was the best and adaigo for strings because of the smoke during the climax

Posted by Abercrombie on Dec-24-2007 19:10:

I finally just woke up, been sleeping since :P

more later, gotta head to the 'rents in Guelph.

It was a pretty decent night, heard a few classics which was sweet. M&S were dropping solid tribal beats in The Drink for a bit which made the night all the more worthwhile.

P.S. Merry Christmas everyone!

wasnt too impressed with the house in the main room, but the drink was killer! from the time i spent in the main room when MO was playing trance he did a good job

Posted by samhouse on Dec-24-2007 22:40:

Mark was spectacular.
Started with the house then moved to the trance before ending on a hard note.

Song of the night for me:

Cosmic Gate - Firewire
just sick

yeah, that pretty much sums it up. i wasn't totally digging the first part of the set although mark dropped a buncha classics from the 90s which i enjoyed. the shenanigans on stage were entertaining at first but got old after a while and i couldn't stand being pushed around so much with all the traffic near the front. so i found myself spending a lot of time in the gallery and caught de-koze's set. what a treat!!! the man didn't skip a beat... he rocked our socks off for a good 2 hours.

the vinyl junkies were on after and although they were great i returned to the guv and by that time mark was well into his trance set. i thoroughly enjoyed listening proper trance being played in the guv main room. he played pretty much every track i wanted to hear cept PVD - Crush... or did he? maybe i was in the gallery at the time.

i loved how the set got much techier/harder towards the end. the encore was pretty meh to be honest until he played PQM - Are You Sleeping, just as we were leaving. wow! tune of the night for me... i've only heard that track in a club like twice before and it's been a very long time since then.

pretty decent night overall. we got in for free thanks to shaya. we were on the guv evite rsvp list but never used it... i heard that ppl who did come in via the list had to pay. is that true, even after the evite said complimentary admission... can someone confirm? it was great seeing a bunch of TAs in attendance and partying it up with you. Merry Christmas guys!

Where was the gallery? was that upstairs where you needed some sort of wristband on to get up to?

I heard a BBE track (remix) early on, and some ultra cheesy house. People were streaming in and the club was filling up nicely but had to leave coz of the peepz I was with were tired (and possibly bored).

upstairs is the drink and d'luxe lounge. the d'luxe is the room with the glass windows that overlooks the main room and they play hip hop in there. the drink is a three steps higher through a bunch of big doors. hand stamp is required to access upstairs before 3am (or whenever the bouncers are standing at the bottom of the stairs).

gallery is located through a corrider at the corner of the main room (near the stairs, to the right of the stage if you are facing the stage). the corridor leads you to tanja lounge, orange room and gallery.

Fantastic night. Spent the whole night in the main room. So many great tunes that you can only hear on a classics night these days. And tons of TA's up front dancing their asses off keeping the energy alive.

Guv wasn't too packed, which was a much appreciated surprise. However, there was a lot of traffic moving through the front-stage area where I had setup camp. I'll let it slide though, since traffic SHOULD be moving AROUND the dance-floor, and not through it anyway. The free softcore porn show up on stage was entertaining for a few minutes as well .

Met a few TA's I hadn't met before, and was surprised to see tha_broad made it out for the first time I've seen her in ages.

Shaya, thanks for hooking up those passes!
Ben and Gabby, was great hanging out and seeing you guys again!

To anyone who didn't go, you missed out, and I definitely suggest you make The Gift a priority next year!

This was one of my favorite times at Guv so far. We found our space under the drink in the main room. There was room, not many people pushing all over the place and crap.

The songs were fackin awesome!!!! So many classics that gave me so many memories! I was in the washroom and some Ayla song came on, which I haven't heard since friggin grade 10! I ran out of the washroom to my friends and was like "OOOOOOOOH!!!!" haha!

All of us were just all going crazy dancing together all night, the biggest friggin smiles. So awesome! My friend Liz came for her first time, and my friend Robs sister for her first time. Both of them were loving it!

Free entry, a free drink, and a free santa picture! Classic facking tunes, lots of room, and partying it up pure smiles with close friends. Honestly one of my favorite nights at Guv ever, and I've been pissed off at that place and hating my last few times there. This night was awesome though

Posted by Pett on Dec-25-2007 06:26:

yea dan the free entry (thanks shaya!) free drink and free santa pics started the night off in a good way.
Mark was good, adagio was tune of the night.
Dekoze played the best set ive ever heard out of him, he was on fire.
Mr. Strong mixed a 3 tracks at once mix that was outstanding.
great night!

Let me put it to you this way... i lost my friggin' voice! I haven't had that much fun @ Guv in a loooong time! Bomb after bomb... kick-ass classic tunes! I was told that it would have been a very memorable night, but i definitely wasn't anticipating a night like that! Everytime i would hear a huge song and dance my ass off, MO would drop a bigger song!!! It was like he was trying to outdo himself... lol.
To the Gift virgins: you must experience it... you will not regret it! The Gift 2008 is a MUST!
I left by 6am... i was sooo tired, but could anyone tell me if MO played Southern Sun? I was waiting for that all night!
