Lack of English skills from people whose first language is English is becoming scary
I don't get it...
Over the past 3 or 4 years I've noticed a HUGE increase in the number of people confusing:
1) Loser / Looser
2) Your / You're
3) Then / Than
4) There / Their / They're
5) CDs / CD's
Ok..the bottom 3 are a bit trickier for some, but the first two are no excuse... I have know people who came to Canada with no formal english training that comment to me about how some people mess up the first two and how it puzzles them how people don't know the difference.
Mind you my english has suffered somewhat from being online for so many years - excess use of chat room / forums can do that to you if you're not careful.
Here's a nice one to screw ya up:
They're a good band; so, I don't think you're a loser if you use that loose change in your pocket to buy their CDs from the store.
I've noticed this too! I run a rather large car orientated forum and the bad ones are:
crome (chrome)
breaks (brakes)
incurance (insurance)
bonet, bonett etc (bonnet)
relice (release)
I think the worst I've seen has to be:
"evry1 sed i was weird cos mines always crashin!f'uks up all the time.
if it sez no1s online or sez u have no1 on ur contacts list then set up anova account, sign in2 it then sign bak in2 ur ova 1 (thats y i got 2 hotmail addresses)& they'll all come bak agen!
if it dont let u sign in, u either gotta leave it 4 a bit cos its totally f'uked or download it agen...but the nu 1 crashes more than the old so i got the old 1 bak!
Have fun"

you guys should be ashamed
even I speak better English then (or than
) you guys!!!!
oh geezus <--- see this one all the time
but really, come on now ppl
we're all educated here. we all got some sort of schooling if you're here in the first place
i used to do that shit all the time when i got hooked to chat rooms, then i realized if i'm ever gonna survive thru university i better start typing write
and i think those ppl should be ashamed of themselves. it doesnt take that much longer to spell out the whole word. i bet if we tested how much faster is it really to type no1 and no one the difference would be so minimal that no normal human being would notice
a piece of advice: if any of you who type that they are in a chatroom wnat to survive in the real world, i suggest you start typing the way you're supposed to. you may be young to realize that right now, or you may not care or whatever your reasons are, you will have to learn how to spell properly and if you don't then its your loss, and yours only
people are lazy when it comes to typing, so they use slang!! That's just the way it is.
That's slighty off the point and i know what you mean.
Swamper! for Number 2 you should've put it as UR instead of YOUR, thats how most lazy typers such as myself put it.

I agree...
i must say, for some reason i started mis-spelling some words , maybe that's because the lack of time to waste on double checking a word...but still, certain words like YOUR & YOU'RE should be rather straight-forward....
I think it gets contagious sometimes...

I agree! It's shocking.

Noticed this too (alot of people get to and too wrong
). English isn't my first language, but I notice this all the time from people here with US, Canadian and English flags.

lol sooooooooooo true!
It KILLS me everytime I see that happen, if it's unintentionally done, awwwwwwww man...I'm an English Major and it pains me to see it. lol I use slang online but sometimes it's just insane how people use grammer on here.
I been speakin english all my whole life, and I speaks fine!

I have a reason for doing this: I'M A SLOW TYPER! In a chatroom, I use "ur", "2", "u", "wanna", "gonna", etc. because people want to rush and want me to type quicker rather than let me check the spelling of every word. That's why I end up doing "^(corrected word)" a lot RIGHT after misspelling a word. Because people are arseholes and want (me) to hurry up. But, in a post, I WANT to type right and plus it's easier for others to read. Also, what if someone if translating everything you type and they get an error because YOU didn't spell the word properly? I can go on for a while about this but, you already know what I mean so, I guess I'm going to end this for now. Oh, by the way, this took me about 10 minutes to type, give or take...

well i hardly speak English in here except when i'm at school in English lessons and it's my second language overall... but from what i see in here i speak better than a lot more than people who are speak english as their first language
that's really a shame
It's because English is a stupid language.
What other language has so many words that sound the same, but are written differently?
their/they're/there, right/write, night/knight, site/sight, said/sad, read/reed, team/teem, seam/seem, etc. etc. etc.
What other language has such weird spelling rules? I could write the word "fish" in English like this: "ghoti" and be absolutely correct, because:
gh = [f] as in laugh
o = [i] as women
ti = [sh] as in station
What other language abuses the alphabet to such an extent?! Try spelling "beautiful" and "daughter" correctly, for example.
In what other normal language is "a" pronounced like "ey"?
In what other normal language is "e" pronounced like "i"?
And in what other normal language is "i" pronounced like "ay"!!!

i started making these mistakes myself as well lately and it's starting to piss me off. my grammar used to be perfect. with English being my second language, the way i learned english was that i somehow learned grammar very well and still know it better than most of the native english speakers. oh well....doesn't matter....as long as people can understand me

Aye your right. But they're are lots of reasons why people didn't get a good education. Everybody's not as good at grammer as most of us are. People should spend less time on there computer and more time reding. I think their just lazy to.
agree
i see the then/than issue all the time... don't understand why some people would have problems with it
