This is the end

| German photographer Walter Schels was terrified of death, but felt compelled to take these extraordinary series of portraits of people before and on the day they died. His partner Beate Lakotta recorded the poignant and revealing interviews with the subjects in their final days. The couple tell Joanna Moorhead how facing death changed how they felt about dying - and living |
...
Are you guys feeling miserable as well, was the title misleading, or are you upset this wasn't an April fools thread?
i see dead people!
-----
and no, i didnt find it miserable, actually rather creepy. i dont see the point of obsessing over the vessel after it has been emptied.
'Heiners friends clearly didnt want him to be sad and were trying to take his mind off things. They watched football with him just like they used to do: they brought in beers, cigarettes, had a bit of a party in the room. Some of them even say get well soon as theyre leaving; hope youre soon back on track, mate! says Heiner, wryly. But no one asks me how I feel. Don't they get it? I'm going to die!'
Must have been an important game.
weird seams inside the gold mine
This is great:
'Klara Behrens knows she hasnt got much longer to live. Sometimes, I do still hope that Ill get better, she says. But then when Im feeling really nauseous, I dont want to carry on living. And Id only just bought myself a new fridge-freezer! If Id only known!'
^^^^
I lol'd at that too.

this was very intriguing. good read.
That broke my heart. My heart hurts for those people.
Meh, I've sat with people as they died, literally watching them breathe their last breath. No pictures can compare to actually being there.

| Originally posted by Lira I thought of you when I posted this. Not only I've seen my godmother die (and understand you perfectly), I also looked after my girlfriend's uncle during his last night. Seeing those pictures reminded me of those moments... and I can't imagine how hard it isto see this as frequently as nurses and doctors probably see. |
I really didn't expect some of the thoughts voiced by the people. I wish there was a more substantial synopsis to some of these. I'm not looking for a life story, but I found it all rather interesting and would like to know more.
