Love Poundin' Sensation 016 Windmill Sessions April 2008 [2 hour special!]

016 Windmill Sessions April 2008

Bit of a bumper special this month, on account of the sheer amount of quality music around, especially with brand new Moshic, Mango and Tastexperience tracks. So its 2hours long this time, an essential mix if you will I aimed to create a smooth melodic journey from start to finish. And it contains prog, trance, breaks, chillout and psytrance(!) all with that deep sensibility.
Hope everyone approves!

Track descriptions!

Tastexperience-Solo
Its been a while but finally Tastexperience get a major label release again! Huge familiar ambience sweeps in and out giving way to new building sounds in an epic opener, then the pacy beat is inroduced suddenly and the rest of the track lets you float away!
Moshic-Am I Stand On The Right Side
A downtempo track from Moshics brand new album melds into the outro of "Solo", to begin a darker and more atmospheric path.
Pole Folder-Mona Kea
Dark, gloomy soundscapes punctuated by a wonderful soaring vocal. Typical technical brilliance from Pole Folder.
Fernando Ferreyra-Chill AM
The clues in the title in this one! Chilled, bouncy rhythms and lovely "twinkling" piano melodies.
Arthur Deep-Friends
Deep and subtle melancholic melodics from that man Arthur Deep suspend the dreamy sounds.
Joey Medina-Reincarnation
Cassino+Laben-esque track from joey Medina injects a slight techy bassline to the proceedings and a confident, unhurried buildup.
Cantus-Campfires At Dusk(mango remix)
The mix shifts up a gear now into this brilliant melodic workout by Mango. Flowing rhythms, lush sweeps, blissful melodies and the catchiest bassline yet!
Darin Epsilon-Green Destiny (noosh+girard deep melodic mix)
A groove injection next up as this chugger comes into play. Loving the big break on this!
Namatjira-Would You Like To Go
The energy increases with this driving melody-laden track. Sultry spoken vocals, lush guitar work and natural sounds all in attendance.
Mango-Handelskai
Building melodics from Mango next up. Beautiful harmonics and warm synths utilised in this.
Tim Davison feat. Stacey Kitson-Deliver Me (hush mix)
The flow is then punctuated by the energetic breaks of "Deliver Me". Fans of Junkie Xl's remix of Infusion-Legacy will need this in their life!
G-pal-Can You Feel This (mango remix)
Grittier, quirky melodies take centre stage in this darker building track.
Mark Newnham-Neon
A mate of mine produced this track, and I think its a pretty damn good effort! The trancey melodies ebb and flow in this proggy track which builds throughout.
The Hamptons-Dont Know Any Better
The sounds become brasher and more noticeable in this electro-infused relentless melodic assault. The feet should be jigging a bit by now;0
Absance-Train Of Thoughts (michael+levan remix)
Its Michael+Levan, that means its good! Dark, trancey, proggy, big breaks, rich sounds-whatever, its all good. This tune also signals the final trancey bit of the mix, where the tempo increases.
Moshic-Bat Kol
For me this track is trance rather than progressive even if it is from Moshic. This is how trance should be, driving bass, atmosphere by the bucket load and subtle spine-tingling melody!
Rezo-Talyo (moshics edit)
A nice blend into another trancey Moshic track. Evocative chanting, deep percussive elements and strong synth work in this.
Zehavi+Rand-Paroxetine
Bosh! The mix gets banging now with this under-rated gem by Zehavi and Rand. Couldn't be trancier if it tried!
Art Sense-New Style
The previous track provided a nice link to this-a huge psy trance track that I have wanted to include in my mixes for some time. It builds and builds before finally unleashing a huge euphoric melody. Can see this doing big lasers-through-the-air style damage in the clubs.
Ilya Malyuev-Sunshine Flowers
A pacy but chilled offering from Ilya Malyuev provides a distictive "Windmill" style finish to the 2 hours

About halfway through and I'm really into it. I'm liking the whole uplifting dreamy feel it has to it. Also diggin the breakbeatish portions, they sound fantastic. Great stuff.

edit: Whoa there are some BOMBS around the 60 - 80 minute mark, NICE.

This is the best Session yet. Not just because its has the most content, but because the general track listing, and the overall flow and mood are just perfect. Everyone should have this

I'm made up that you said that zDmn, right from the start I knew this mix was coming together very nicely. With it being 2hours you can develop the flow and carefully address the structure with the confidence a larger time frame allows, for me its the "magic" length of time!

To be perfectly honest though, I just felt priveleged to be able to listen to all the wonderful productions this month, produced by such luminaries as Moshic, Pole Folder and Tastexperience et al. A goddamn privelege I tell thee!

Thanks for the input mate

Yes! i have listened to about 7 of the windmill sessions so far. All brilliant.

Been out of town for several days on business. Glad to see this now that I'm back! Getting in now!

I would make a .cue for this set but the site with the program that used to help me make the .cue doesnt seem to be there anymore. The opening track by Tastexperience is the most euphoric and mellow song I think I have ever heard. Right now I have listened into the set about 70 min and I'm blow away by how well done it is.

Posted by Zoso on Apr-11-2008 00:30:

This, sir, is simply massive. Obviously I'll try to have more to say later, but this set is just epic.

I'm really loving this set, and it's probably one of my top favorites from you!! Keep up the awesome work, man

I'll try and sort a CUE soon mate.
That tastexperience track is beautiful, love how the beat kicks in after the long, epic opening, and then that amazing melodic lead. Wish it was longer though!

Loved the mix mate. I've listened to it many times now and it is truly of an essential mixes quality! (I mean the good e-mixes where the dj has clearly searched high and low for tracks to fit the sections of the mix and taken the listener on a journey) it epitomises the windmill sessions and shows off all sides to your style.

Tastexperience - Solo is a beautiful track and has probably the longest intro I have ever heard! ambient starts always whet the appitite. It's good to see them back again - they remind me of the good 'ol days when trance was at its best, seems like oh so long ago now

I'm loving the Moshic tunes, are they from a new album did you say? I have to get on that! Mango seems to be branching out as well, I can see Deadmau5 influences creeping in which I obviously like but I'm sure you hope he doesn't go too far!

Neon sounded good! It's awesome to hear it played in the context of a mix so cheers again boss!

BOSH

As I've said before, 2hours is the perfect timeframe for me, you never seem to be in a rush when delivering the tracks.

The biggest praise I can give this track is that it didn't sound out of place in such illustrious company, so well done!

I second that, cheers for your thoughts Newn!

Apologize for my tardiness, but I should have a full review up this weekend, mate. Home and work have both been very time consuming lately, but things should ease a bit later in the week.

This may very well be the best Windmill Session yet, good sir.

Awesome-I look forward to your brilliant indepth review! And if you thought this could be the best then that is high praise indeed, seeing how carefully you listen to these sets

So I haven't posted on these boards in ages...

Was bored at work today and thought I'd download some sets to help me through a slow friday.
I'd got one of the windmill sessions before and loved it, so I thought great, 2 hours of this will help Friday fly by....

This is SO great. Just amazing. I felt compelled to actually dig out my old login details to this forum just so I could reply here and give you props.

Techically it's brilliant, music selection is stunning (what's nice about not following the scene too closely is that when you come back there's lots of aural treets waiting for you ). Altogether this set it just bloody superb, around the hour mark it's just sublime....

Burning this onto CD now for my drive home.

So, so good!

I've half the review finished. I apologize for the delay this time, but I can't begin to tell you how hectic things have been lately. I will finish this tomorrow morning.

I love the opening track! This has to be the best opener youve used thus far. Rich, warm, and ambient all rolled into one. Its a shame Solo must end, but youve done a nice little fade into the Moshic tune which wastes no time in getting down to business. Though darker, the track is full of melodic goodness, and the vocals add a nice touch to this particular track. Mona Kea comes in with a nice, strong kick and some melodic quirkiness for lack of a better term. This track retains the darker, moodier atmosphere of the mix at this point, and it too makes good use of the vocals.

Now we can hear the melodies of Chill AM creeping up and slowly taking over nice, smooth mix. This is a brilliant tune, and it really shines. The twinkling lead stands out, and I like the bass work on this track as well. I enjoyed the mix into Friends. The lingering sounds of Chill AM slowly give way to a brighter sounding Arthur Deep track and fade away at the right time. Ill have to depart from your description here, mate, as I cant say that I find this one to be melancholic, personally.

Reincarnation slips in next with that dirty bassline, immediately catching the listeners ear. Friends hangs around long enough to lead us into the meat of Reincarnation. I love the echo effect used on the lead early on in Reincarnation! Simply massive. Excellent breakdown on this little number, too. But for all its atmosphere, the bass work just shines on this track and rises above the other elements. The Mango treatment of Campfires comes through next. The mix out was a bit quicker here, but that may have been to avoid clashing melodies, as Campfires gets right down to business. Typical Mango warmth and melodies in this track! Nice, uplifting little stabs throughout.

Green Destiny takes over next with some quirky sounds followed by a funkier, chuggier bassline. A lovely lead then begins to build before taking us down into the break. And oh my what a break it is! The track explodes after the break, full of melody and bass work. Would You Like To Go creeps up next. I love the vocal work on this track. This is simply a monster tune! The spoken vocals carry the listener away, especially when combined with the guitar work during the break. This is one of those tune of the mix tracks, easily.

Smooth mix into Mangos next tune, which opens with some teasing synth work and Mangos signature warmth. There are some nice builds in this tune, and it retains the warmth throughout. Definitely a headphones tune if you want to fully appreciate this gem. Great mix into Deliver Me (I must learn to mix breaks), which comes out dark and heavy sounding compared to the Mango land we just left. The low end really hangs and looms in this tune, and the vocals are well done. This one explodes after the break! I love how the low end work in this track just seems to rise up and tower over the listener.

Can You Feel This builds its way into the mix now with a quirkier, dirtier sound. You can tell Mango has touched this, but this is a little darker than the bulk of Mango tunes. The repeated vocals are well done, and the percussion on this one is beyond your standard kick. Another smooth mix into Neon. I love how the vocals from the previous tune hang around long enough to get the listener into Neon. Neon builds into a nice trancer with an excellent, urgent lead. You can tell your friend nice work on this one. Great melodic work on this tune. Nearly hypnotic at times.

Nice transition out of Neon. Dont Know Any Better comes in strong and wastes no time in getting down to its dirty electro business. The lead here keeps the sense of urgency you started in Neon, I think. Good builds in this track, and it keeps the mix moving along nicely. Michael & Levan put their take on Train of Thoughts, next. This track is a little bit of everything dark, brooding, twinkling. A very unique track.

Bat Kol picks up the pace, pushing us into the final act of the mix. I love the subtle little lead on this one. But I have no idea what kind of instrument it is! Theres some great percussive work here as well, and the driving bassline moves the mix along nicely. Nice mix into Talyo, which has a great kick and a great lead. Excellent break in this gem, too. Combined with the chanting, all the elements work together here to make a stunning track as we continue with peak time.

Paroxetine slides into the mix next, and right out of the gate you can tell this is going to be a great trancer! Strong lead and bass work. This one just washes over you and really carries you away. Hypnotic break, then it assaults the listener with explosive goodness all the way into New Style, which comes in with a massive kick. This track just pounds away until the break, introducing all sorts of quirky sounds along the way (but thats psy for you, right). What a great, uplifting track.

Great mix into Sunshine Flowers to close, and it is indeed a perfect closer. Love the guitar work on this one. Takes us down nicely. Another great Windmill Sessions, and a great showcase of some of the talent thats out there today. This one showcases all sorts of tracks, from deep, dark, and moody prog, to lush ambience, and even a little psy. This mix explodes during the middle and during the last half hour. Outstanding work, mate.
