im getting big fast?

i went to the gym with my bro the other week to start getting big, and muscle bound. i trained all week and he told me to eat 5 mars, 2 burgerkings, 8 packs of crisps, and 3 meals a day, but at the end of the first week i just look fat. whats going wrong? hes fat to. is he trying to make me fat.?????

its normal to get chubby during the "bulk" phase..just focus more on protein than you are now..get more lean meat and less snickers and sugary junk food...the fat will turn into muscle if you keep lifting.

Are you joking?

LOL.

Is he a bodybuilder? He's probably trying to get you to do something called "bulking," where you eat a bunch of food to keep your body in an anabolic (muscle-building) state. You don't have to eat unhealthy crap like candy to do that, though.

The other phase is called "cutting," where you eat less food and start to lose body fat. Basically, you gain the muscle in the "bulking phase" then cut away the fat in the "cutting phase."

I don't personally do this because I'm not a bodybuilder. I just lift weights for strength-maintenance and general fitness rather than "size" specifically...

Also, you certainly don't have to gain a lot of body fat during the bulk phase. You'll gain at least a little because you have a calorie surplus, but you don't have to look like a sumo or even "overweight" really...

Bodybuilding Pro-tip: Don't take advice from someone who you don't want to look like.

You want protein and carbohydrates in large amounts for muscle gain, not sugary, fatty calories.

And your brother sounds clueless if you're training every day of the week. For hypertrophy, rest for a day after you train so you're only training alternate days and don't train for more than an hour a day, using heavy weights and less reps to avoid over-working your muscles.

It amazes me that you even need to ask. Please tell me this is a joke.

Aw cool another thread where I can give my expert advise on Fitness training.

The problem starts with what youre eating. Thats atleast 4000 calories, 100 grams of fat and over 1600 carbs in all that food. Seperated into 3 meals is bad because youre metabolism will only be working 3 times of the day where if you eat 6 meals itll be working almost all day.

The carbs youre eating are processed and a form of starch. All those carbs are HIGH GLYCEMIC. High glycemic carbs will spike your blood sugar, insulin level causing it to drop minutes later and give you food cravings and youll burn calories from muscle instead of fat.

Heres an example of a High carb (Low glycemic), High protein, Low fat diet that will add lean weight.

Meal 1 - Oatmeal, Berries, 3egg whites 3 whole

Meal 2 - Almonds, yogurt, apple

Meal 3 - Burger king (This is where you can have that bad meal, Just make sure you do some type of activity after.)

Meal 4 - Weight gainer protein shake

Meal 5 - Salmon, broccoli, sweet potato

Meal 6 - Cottage cheese, Celery with peanut butter.

Its ok to eat out of moderation. Do little cardio. Focus of high volume when lifting weights (3-4 sets, 10-20 reps). Theres so much more advice and suggestions I could give you, but this will do for now.

Go get em, Champ.

I tried to eat Mars once, but my canines kept getting stuck on Olympus Mons! Oddly enough, what I did swallow tasted a lot like vampires! Never tried eating a Burger King though...THATS FUCKING CRAZY!

Maybe if you were like 80 pounds and needed to gain weight....

Otherwise, talk to someone that works at the gym. Most gyms have trainers who will generally offer up some good advise. You don't need to pay for a session either, some will even help make you a dietary list.

My boyfriend swears by Menshealth.com. They have lots of recipes, workouts and advise.

for anyone who is knowledgable about excersise/bodybuilding, i have a question; if im lifting to gain mass (low reps, higher weight) is it still alright to go on runs? not jogs, a little more sped up

i recommend quarter mile melbourne shuffles with 15 minute power-walking sessions sprinkled in between.

Depends on how much you're eating and how hard you find it to gain muscle mass. It's usually recommended to "hard gainers" that you only do one session of cardio exercise a week. Either way it's going to burn up calories that will otherwise be used in repairing and growing muscle. If you're finding it hard to gain muscle I'd recommend not running more than once a week.

Yes. Just don't go for more than 20 minutes or so.

Also, try doing some interval running instead of just straight long distance.
