Cool TrancEaddict Battle Of The Mixers III FULL

Here are the rules for this comp:

NEW RULE: All judges will have to be appoved by me and will only be accepted as long as nobody else has any problems. Judges must take this duty to mix seriously. All mixes must be marked on skill and the way the contestant progresses their mix, NOT ON PERSONAL OPIONION OF THE CONTESTANT OR THE SONGS HE WISHES TO MIX. Although contestants must abide by the tracklist rules.

Closing date for DJs: 1st June 2oo2
Closing date for mixes: 1st July 2oo2
THIS MAY BE ALTERED AS IT MAY BE DIFFICULT FOR SOME PEOPLE TO UPLOAD AT A STRICT TIME DUE TO EXAMS
Closing date for results: 1st August 2oo2

There will be no exceptions for DJ entry, however exceptions will be made if people are having problems uploading with slower connections. My suggestion is to send your mix to somebody with a fast connection for them to upload.

Mixes must be submitted in 160kbps Mp3 quality, CBR or VBR, no Mp3-Pro files are allowed.

You may mix with:
a) Vinyl
b) CDs
c) Mp3s (no sequencer software)

All DJs must state how they have made their set, ie which formats used.

All mixes must be recorded live, by that I mean no sequencers.
You may plan and practise your mix, but not to the point that it becomes robotic.

All mixes must be uploaded with a tracklist, a cue sheet would also help. You may combine both into the cue sheet, but remember not all CD writers support that type of cue sheet so be careful when burning.

Contestants may not also be a judge, you have the choice to be either, not both.

You may not download other contestants mixes.

You must mix trance, this rule bends as far as progressive and hard trance. Contestants will be disqualified for extended use of non-trance music.

Mixes will be marked on the following categories:
a) Track selection and play order
b) Beat-matching
c) Transition harmonics
All sections contain 25 marks, no section is worth more than another.
A percentage will then be calculated from these three areas to give a better comparison.

You must actually mix to gain marks, snapping together of tunes is not allowed. That is not really DJing.

Judges and Administrators have the right to reserve and change/ammend these rules.

Cool i am in.

I like the idea of the mxies with Numbers aswell.

I know the other thread has been closed but i cant help but say this.

Since i joined the forums in october last year, i have always had alot of respect for Neo and Fox, but due i recent events for respect for fox has gone. I am totaly shocked at his actions with regards to the mixing comp II. It may sound stupid but im also dissapointed.

Posted by quddha on May-18-2002 21:10:

and as for the anonymous mix idea, yeah I already suggested that for the 1st comp.. but now you see how valuable it is regarding judging bias. so please, implement it. its not that hard to do. just have the person with the file server rename all the mixes to numbers before the judges download.. and no posting tracklists. :P

second, regarding scoring, i think there can be a better way to score the mixes. I haven't figured out the logistics of it yet... but yeah, something to do with the way figure skaters or gymnasts are marked, it works well... but i'll get back to this later.

there is a special server donated for the comp to store the mixes, kindly hosted by t0ast! in the last comp, i believe he is willing again, but i will need his confirmation, although don't fear about space djdf, and also were all jus about doin exams, a mix will take 90 mins of your life, im sure u could spare it

Posted by t0ast! on May-18-2002 21:47:

yeah....i'm totally down for trying this again....and since i'm an entrant, perhaps i could come up with a numbering scheme for the mixes....i'm not a judge, so the judges won't know

hows that sound?

Posted by Luke Terry on May-18-2002 22:14:

Cool

sounds like a very g00d idea 2 m3 now, im sorry 4 being so against this for the last 2 comp mixes but i can truly see the point now. ill jus av 2 get a non-judge 2 upload mine, please gibbo

Posted by capricorn15 on May-18-2002 23:44:

i am in again, so count me in, this time i wanan finish in the top three =)

btw, i read what was up in the other thread about competition 2, i dont think fox should be allowed to judge the mixes, it is obvious that he is biased towards some of the competitors, which is complete bullshit, it isnt a competition on how much you like each person, but how they mix, i dont know, i think i got marked off cuz i didnt put and paul van dyk songs (i have out there and back 4x12 lp) but i didnt use it, although i might have if i knew there was going to be a shittie judge, anyways, yea i like the idea of anonymous mixes with number, that way we cant have judges cheat people out of the marks they should have earned
