c0r NBA Finals Thread

I don't think there's one yet, if there is will delete - but meh, I'm not much of an NBA guy and never really have been, but I hope this is a decent series. The playoffs have been fun to watch this year, and it's nice to see Boston doing so well this year as even though I'm not much of a fan, I've definitely got a soft spot for Garnett, Allen, and Doc Rivers.

All I really care about is that it's an entertaining series (would be nice to see Boston win, but I'm hardly a die-hard fan) - more than 5 games would be preferable, definitely hope it's not a slaughter.

Anyone else watching game one tonight?

I hate the city of Boston.

Completely understandable. Annoying accents and no one knows how to drive.

Posted by shaw on Jun-06-2008 01:11:

it's more about the attitude.

'we always lose. nobody cares about boston. new york steals all our thunder. it's not fair.'
'boston sucks.'
'FUCK YOU BOSTON WILL SEXUALLY ASSAULT YOU IT IS THE BEST CITY IN PATRIOTS RED SOX THE WORLD BOSTON FUCK YEAH NOBODY TALKS SHIT ABOUT BOSTON'

Posted by RJT on Jun-06-2008 01:13:

Well at least they've been given a healthy dose of humble pie with the whole Patriots debacle unfolding the way it has this off-season.

But yes, the "unique" attitudes of most of the East coast are something I could easily live without - but coincidentally the one you describe is eerily similar to the attitude of Mets fans.

Posted by shaw on Jun-06-2008 01:16:

yeah, but the mets still suck, so their fans haven't gotten to the ADD prepubescent forum-goer manner of debate yet.

It's a Boston-NY-Philly thing. Everyone here in the Northeast is very vocal, ridiculously obnoxious and passionate about their sports.

watching it... seems like allen is on fire.

I'm pulling for the Celtics. Garnett, Allen, and Rivers are class guys and I hope, after being the best team all year long, the can continue to be the best through the finals.

Posted by verndogs on Jun-06-2008 01:57:

This game needs PJ Brown body slamming Luke Walton. Both teams are playing with no passion.....like they're out on a picnic

Posted by Sykonee on Jun-06-2008 02:02:

Long time Celtics fan, but got into basketball shortly after their 80s Glory Years (still caught a few classic Bird moments tho'). Really looking forward to seeing the Good Ol' Green hang up #17!

Also, I'm VERY impressed in ABC's coverage this year. MUCH better than before, when they had the fucking Pussycat Dolls, of all damned things.

Posted by shaw on Jun-06-2008 02:03:

I'm just glad that Mike Tirico is nowhere to be heard.

Posted by winston on Jun-06-2008 02:22:

duly noted.

Posted by verndogs on Jun-06-2008 02:26:

that was a disappointing boring first half. it's like watching the spurs play the pistons except they got different uniforms

Posted by Zombie0729 on Jun-06-2008 02:44:

edit: OMG I JINX ZIM

Posted by Sykonee on Jun-06-2008 02:57:

Hah! Celtics drama. Gotta love it.

Posted by Fledz on Jun-06-2008 04:19:

Celtics baby yea!!!!

Pierce killed it

Posted by RJT on Jun-06-2008 04:24:

Was definitely a fun game to watch, can't fucking believe the Lakers let all that fucking time off the clock in the last minute.

That whole thing with Pierce was odd as well - I didn't think it looked too bad and wasn't surprised to see him back so quick, but he definitely looked hurt late in the game.

Posted by Fledz on Jun-06-2008 05:01:

He'll be hurting tomorrow. If they have access to and can get him in a hyperbaric chamber tonight and also tomorrow, it could help him a lot with his knee.

KG was great too, apart from the 9 straight misses at the end

I was playing poker with some friends during the game, and the possibility/notion of him getting a quick cortisone shot and then just playing through the pain was definitely brought up.

Of course that means I was playing poker with a bunch of basketball conspiracy theorists, none the less it made for good conversation.

Posted by Fledz on Jun-06-2008 05:05:

Yea but that could cause long term problems. I think it's too early for that kind of treatment, especially since they are 1-0 up.
