Nice. Now if they'd only spend some money to improve their customer service!

Posted by dEsidEL on Jun-12-2008 05:23:

other than the fact that you can walk from one end of the train to the other they look pretty much the same to me?

.. and I sure as hell hope you can't open the window based on the 2nd image.. mmm tunnel asbestos

lol I don't think i've ever heard the words 'customer service' and 'TTC' used in the same sentence

yeh i noticed the operable window too. the asbestos is one thing. idiots putting their body parts out the window is another.

the changes are in the little things. next station LED boards/LCD screens, security cameras, etc. the way the T1's are designed is actually pretty good so they didn't mess with the seat arrangment. a picture was posted in another forum comparing it to the hong kong cars which apparently the TTC looked at as a model.

The train in Gaugzhou was like that, I kept starring down to each ends, my friend thought I was crazy. I almost lost my mind :P

Bad thing is ... now it's gonna be harder for cops to arrest someone, since they can hide within the crowd more.

no poles in the middle? Fuck yea, I love falling on my ass every time the train breaks!

Sweet new machines, I like.

Too bad the problem with the TTC has nothing to do with the trains themselves...

maybe with the ATC arriving around the same time, the trains will be able to stop smoother and not so abruptly.

Not really. The trains stop so abruptly because they are either accelerating or breaking. If you notice, they accelerate until the last possible moment, then start breaking. That way, they keep the times down. Smoother breaking would mean breaking earlier, which would slow down the system.

You think getting a seat is tough now? Wait till these kick in! Yikes!

I thought the TTC was broke and we are getting new trains? Many systems around the world are still operating trains from 30, 40 and even 50 years ago. We just replaced ours 20-30 years ago. Remember the old red cars?

WTF?

lol awesome. As for tunnel asbestos, you know they have a similar set up w the windows open in the Uk Tube (albeit at a different location) but how does that work? AC vs an open tunnel window? I'd take the AC...but depends on electricity...

btw dave, the current T1s don't have a middle pole either :/

Posted by DigiNut on Jun-12-2008 22:44:

I'd rather them spend that money on extending the lines further north.

But they look alright, I guess.

sometimes the AC just doesn't work.

I've been in England twice in my life and both times have been during a heatwave. I believe it reached 35C when I was there a couple summers ago and that was UNHEARD of over there. they had to shut down a few of the lines because of the heat and the tracks expanding...

But having the windows open on the tube was a great relief to the heat, especially on some of the other cars that didn't have a proper ventilation system.

TTC subway system needs glass walls/doors, like in Hong Kong.

As much as that would add to safety they'd be ugly as hell. I love the feeling of the warm breeze rushing by you as the train pulls into the station.

they are actually looking into that.

while on the topic of ttc
i don't understand why did they reduce the number of ttc maps above doors. there used to be a map above each door and that is not the case any longer. i do not use the ttc a lot and really need the map sometimes. i find myself trekking to the door that has one and that can be hard during rush hour

Posted by Frenchie on Jun-13-2008 06:44:

Grab one of those foldable maps from a station and keep it in your bag. The entire TTC map should be printed on 3 back panels, no need to unfold the entire map.

they have the map available for download on their website in PDF format. It's actually the entire ride guide with bus routes too. I saved it on my cell phone and really comes in handy sometimes.

No, but there are overhead poles and handles.
