Review .:SWIRL:.

Ok i just arrived home so i can write the review before going on recovery mode

Ok i arrived early this time since i purchased my ticket online with my father's credit to learn after that i needed to purches the ticket with my own cause they needed to have my name and since i don't have one i canceled and took my bet to buy at at the door, so i went early like at 5pm and i got my ticket, after i went to the movies and then came at 10 tot he show, the lneup was small and then we got in one thing i got to say DAMN!! not even on the airport i got searched like that, whoa security was tight and to think that i wanted to sneak a camera in lol. anyway the music was on.

first it was preach, he heated the crowd and well too bad the crowd started to dance almost at the end of his set wich was a good progressive one, and well preach if you read this man i knew you would play that song arrakis - ariaforce (lemon8 remix) wich i know now is on yout top list hehe that's when i started to dance when this song went on, i think it was just 2 more before he ended hsi set.

then tall paul came in i got to hand it to him he mixes breakbeats, house, trance and progressive and he gets away with it it was a hell of a good set tracks i remember:

future sounds of london (aka F.S.O.L) - papua new guinea (satoshie tomie remix) awesome!!!!! better than the marco v remix in my opinion.
marco v - simulated (OMG)
sono - keep control (great breakbeats track the vocals are addictive)
Art of Trance - Madegascar (Push remix) OMG I DIE!!!
Danny Tenaglia Vs Timo Maas - Treatment Elements (im gonna take on a trip of a 12 inch, yes a 12 inch lol) good stuff

he played some house track that i have heard but i don't remember the names. o also he started playing some remix of a nirvana track that's the time i meet the first TA rnakr.

then max graham came in one thing i got to say about him, is damn!!! where did he left the melodies? he played like 30 tracks and only like 4 had melodies he truly got away from progressive trance, he's mostly techno and progressive house now. but he made me happy when he played one of my favorite tunes of this year.

filtherheadz vs latinloopworks - los hijos del sol awesome techno track!!! whoa!!!!
at this time i meet disco joe nice meeting you again well i was a little tired so i went to sit and came back 1 house before max ended his show, at this time he played some actual prograssive trance he played m.i.k.e - sunrise at palamos but i dont know if it was a remix or he was just messing with it? and he played a vocal track wich is awesome, zing and me heard it before, is the english version of the vocals on that track ratty - sunrise, and it was aprogressive mix, but non the less it was fantastic, around this time i saw the lights spoutinick nice meeting you again and im glad you are buck , i also saw dj happy thanks for the lollypop happy you really save me there .

ok them MAURO PICOTTO came in, i got 7 words for him BOOM,BOOM,BOOM,BOOM,BOOM,BOOM, and BOOM god damn!!!!!!! the hardest set ever!!!! BXR Style my legs could not take it but i could not leave, for those who misse him, whoa!! you better see him next time cause it was so good!!!! a meet le castrateur (it was very nice meeting you man) and we danced together to the bad ass beatz of piccoto, and he mixes like a bad mutha!!! whoa i can't belive how good he was.

some tracks i can remember he played (most of them i didn't know but i will since i think im going to start getting into more of this hard stuff)

Joy kitikonti - joydontstop
mauro picotto - bangkok (OMG I DIE TWICE!!!! i been waiting for so long to hear this one from the man himself)
Mauro Picotto - Like a Dog (or crw - like a cat, really can't rmember)
mauro picotto mixing skills showed when he played Umek - Benozal wich if you have heard is just like an intro a really hard riff with no drum kicks and well he puts some kicks on that track and whoa!!! amazing!!!
Chris Liebing - The Biggest 10 Inches I've Ever Seen (Major Rush Remix)
chris liebing - (don't remember the name but i know it was a liebing track)
and many tracks i don't know but they were really hard!!! dam!!!

so anyway this is it, i think i can applaud 514 cause this show was amazing !! another thing the WOMEN o dear lord!! why you made them so hot and soft!! thongs everywhere i was like hehe

o and at the end almost leaving i saw dark man x nice meeting you again man

and for the cons? well the securtiy whoa!! i felt like in prison! and everything was going well till i saw the tiesto posters. FORUM PEPSI??? how the hell can you put tiesto there? non the less i will be there

so there, to the guys that i saw there hope you enjoyed like i did it was a show to remember

peaz

woooo hooooooooo

what a fuckin party..unfortunatetely i only stayed until 6:30 am because my sober legs were taking a beating from the lizard man

heres the review:
preach: good tunes...300 people in the molson centre (sux to play the early set with security checking like that)

tall paul: very impressive..never heard so many different styles in 2 hours.. too bad this set wasnt near the peak of the party or else it would have rocked

max graham: was this max graham? ive seen this guy about 7-8 times now and i was shocked to hear some of his tracks...forget prog trance...he was mixing hard prog..some deep underground at times....good tech too at times...he shocked me and he stole the show

mauro p: i heard him for 90 minutes and he did not disapoint..exactly like i imagined he would be...slammin bass, loud and fast highs......i almost lost my mind and i knew mtl people would love this guy......

xl and lafleche: missed them...what a shame

overally the party really got good at around 4:30 a.m...for most of tall paul and maxi...it was pretty shit...no vibe, no underground feel and i think as soon as it hit 4:30 am people started going crazy out of no where... i really liked it despity being sober as a goat. Swamper where in the hell were u?!?!?!?!??!?!?

couldnt find any TAs

del i know what you mean my legs hurt like hell i can't walk now hehe, but i did stay till picotto finished, yes max graham played very diffrent just almost at the end he played like the max we know but i guess he's trying new things and that's always good right? as usual all the TA'S were usually in front of the dj booth,i didn't saw swamper either i was looking around for a trance addict shirt

Posted by mastercongo on May-20-2002 17:55:

also i forgot picotto played a small part of energy 52 - cafe del mar if im not correct i think it was the michael woods remix wich is an ambient version, dam for a moment i tought he was gonna play the new marco v remix but no heh

OMFG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i have only one thing to say: mauro is a god!!!!!!!!!!!!
like mastercongo said we dance together for the whole set
i was playing tam-tams when mauro entered so i missed approximatly 10 min of the set. then i went directly in the middle of the dj booth and took some distance hoping mauro would see me. man i was surprised! from about 5 to 8 we made eye contact(this is for jpx) and in the uplifting parts of the songs he looked at me doing my moves, then he pointed at me and entered the bass. it was like this for the whole set!!!!!!!!!!!!! i was about to die when, in i dont which tune, he did my move in the uplifting part!!!!!! i was so pleased!!!!!!!!!!!!! omg it will be long before i hear a hard set of this quality!!!not a little mess and the sound was so perfect!
after his performance, he went on the floor(behind a fence) to see people and i got his autograph!!!!! he looks very nice, he was always smiling. during the set i asked him to play baguette and honk kong and unfortunatly he didnt have baguette on him and he forgot to play honk kong, but i think it would have been strange cause the set was very hard. it was just awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!( i died approximatly 10 times during his set it was so intense!)

Posted by Mekroon on May-20-2002 19:52:

i hope some ta writes down the tracklist fast cause theses tunes were so nice. i think he played many of his new album. im only sure he played bangkok, verdi, awesome. i couldnt recognized the beats cause the high level of bass changed them a bit.(at least three time in the set i imagined hong kong cause of the small delay there was on the bass drum that made look em like the beginning of hong kong.
i hope every event this summer will be as intense as this one!

Posted by Sadmafioso on May-20-2002 21:04:

FUCK YOU MO!!"$"/?$/ j'aurais TELLEMENT aim ca etre la!!!!

Man what a fucking incredible show! After listening to so much trance lately I was in the mood for something different. This was exactly what I needed. Max played some intense deep dark prog trance. I honestly didnt think it could get any better. I had to go sit down though for his last half hour. I really didnt know any of his songs (which I guess is a really good thing) but he is definitely sitting amongst my favourite dj list.

And as for mauro.. well what can I say. He completely kicked my ass. I was expecting techno but I was not expecting that. The beats consumed me and tore through my viens. He had me in his grip like a master of puppets. For me anyway he put on the best show I have ever seen live. He had the crowd in the palm of his hands. Unfortunately I had to leave with half an hour left. So Im really hoping he didnt save the best for last. I definitely will not miss his next appearance. Can't wait!
He also played Dariush - ira (second/third song) and I knew that sounded like cafe del mar. Followed I think by Hong Kong but I dont remember. Personally I think it was brilliantly placed. Bangkok was intense too love that song. Obviously he played Awesome Verdi and I think pulsar 2002.

Btw what was with the small crowd. Definitely no where near 10000. I cant see how they could possibly make money when they attract half as many people as they anticipate.

Anybody have pics? Sounds like you guys had a kicking time with PICOTTO, DAMN!! I was stuck at Guv with the most boring collection of djs i have ever heard!! Dave Seaman didn't even show up, a disaster...

PICS OF SWIRL PLEASE!

Posted by Swamper on May-21-2002 00:27:

Music = amazing.

Women = unparalleled.. omg.

Venue = Perfect

Organization/Security = 2.5 hour wait, we only got in at 3:30am - lame.

Anyways I'm exhausted.. gonna eat then sleep and then write more later.. but this was definately one of the better parties I've EVER been to, the bass didn't let down much after 4am - what a party.

Shoutouts to StereoPrincess & her bf - I didn't see any other TAs, but then, in that crowd, that wouldn't be easy.

Posted by delstar on May-21-2002 00:33:

hahaha nice

the webmonstah got his ass kicked in mtl

nice dude...i'm glad to hear u liked the party..i was worried u would go back to T.O with bad comments cuz of the fuckin lineup

man that sucked..although i got in at 11:30

MESSAGE FROM 514 PRODUCTIONS

We would like to apologize for the long wait in getting into the party.

Unfortunately, the police were VERY hard on every party goer and they searched everyone in a very OPPRESSIVE way.

It's a sad state of the scene, when police will do anything to make your afterhours experience as unpleasant as possible.

The fact of the matter is that the only way the Police can stop people from coming to these events, is by making them as difficult as possible to attend.

Not only where they holding the line-up for 2 hours, but they charge us double time for every officer there.

How are we supposed to survive in such an environment.

things have to change....

he didnt play hong kong unfortunatly.
i asked him maybe 10 times and at a moment he showed me three fingers to tell me there was 3 tunes remaining and he seemed to have understand for hong kong but he forgot as he told me after when i talked to him.
next time ........ in october
man as i said to jpx and all my friends who wouldnt come: its a lifetime experience to see mauro live(even better when he looks at you and hes doing youre moves hahahaha jpx ..... i think ill tell this story so many times just to tease you!)

I dont understand. Why was bal en blanc allowed to hire their own security? The line up to that party was next to non existant (at 11:30 when I went anyway) and they had relatively tight security as well. And please buying 20 or 30 more police officers is really nothing compared to selling half you tickets. That was their real problem. If they sold the 10000 they thought hey were supposed to. They would have meant about $600000 revenue. Considering that most of the costs are fixed (djs rent security...) If they only sell half the tickets that is $300000 straight profit lost. I think 514 has to rethink their priorities. Worry about selling your tickets before you worry about insignificant security costs.

They knew the police would be strict. They could have bought more police/security. They have nobody to blame but themselves. Hopefully like any well run business should, they will find a way to overcome these setbacks.

Posted by mastercongo on May-21-2002 01:22:

all i can say is thank god i got there early cause it took me like 20 min get in

and dam is always this things what are you guys smoking? he did not play awesome and verdi! not even pulsar, he didn't play any of his old or recognized stuff, unless he mess them up with all that bass, but anyway im just happy that i heard bangkok im going trough my mp3s and found some new stuff that i can now remember he played.

01_chris_liebing_-_next_try_remix__major_rush_remix

this one if fucking amazing, the vocals are scary and the effects whoa!!!!

and he also play stuff from a whitelabel called

Chris_Liebing-Stigmata_8-Promo

i say white label cause they don't have names the tracks but they are hard like hell!!! im going trough.

i keep looking for stuff max played, im getting some recent livesets to compare mauro tracks

Posted by mastercongo on May-21-2002 01:23:

le castrateur you say he's coming back in october? dam i can't wait hehe

Posted by mastercongo on May-21-2002 01:26:

o yes one funny thing is the dj's going to the bathroom at least that's what i think they did. tall paul went once, he left the dj booth running down the stairs lol and picotto left twice but he went upstairs the from the dj booth not down hmmm

Posted by discojoe on May-21-2002 01:38:

so what was the song after the 4 minute mellow break (cafe del mar I think) I was pretty sure it was hong kong.

Posted by Mekroon on May-21-2002 02:19:

i can assure you it was not hong kong. me too about three times i tought he spun hong but hong kong start very softly so we would have notice it and in his last sets he spun it at the end cause it fits to close the set. i think we tought it was kong cause of the double bass drum shot that is specific to it but the bass was so present that it created kind of a small delay that made us think it was hong kong every time an intense beat started. also, when he spins it he lower dramatically the sound level of the other beat to be able to hear evrything from the start. moreover, hong kong has this special sound before it becomes harder and everyone would normally differenciate it from other mauro's beats but i think we wanted so much to hear that we had sound visions.
about october, i asked him if he would come back this summer and he answered that if he comes its in october... i told him we would wait for him i hope it wont be in a shitty place ........ i cant imagine him at sona hahaha he diserves big crowds and places with a great atmosphere. god i like this guy...... i never tought it would be so nice! for your information jpx, the 18th he was in dc. his 6 hour set at gatecrasher is the 25th.
now waiting for tiesto, johan and rank 1 to match this unbelivable performance that i think mauro made.

Posted by Sadmafioso on May-21-2002 05:59:

fuck LECASTRATEUR you are on fire...was this your 100th post on this thread

T Tun encul!"$"/% man tu sais comment je voulais etre la!!!!!!

( en passant tu me dois 25$ )

btw...he probably spun Hong Kong ( you can't rely on mo when he's on speed...)

Posted by mastercongo on May-21-2002 13:16:

lol

well hong kong is my second favorite song from the new album "the others" so i could have remember if he played, yes it makes a perfect song to start or to end a set but if he comes next time we could ask him some requests cause i would love to hear some old tracks like the megamind remix of verdi
