Ghost Smilie Petition to get Trance videos played in Canada

I think its time we approached MTV Canada and Much music about giving the Trance/Euro Dance/Electronica videos a place to be played in Canada.

Since I moved back from Iceland I have been shocked at the total lack of trance music videos in Canada.

I am going to create a petition that we can eventually bring to MTV Canada and Much Music to finally get us a weekly show dedicated to trance videos, and hopefully videos of DJ sets as well.

If anyone is interested in helping me get this together please email me at [email protected]

Maybe you can make 2 copies...one for Canada and one for the U.S.

Good luck, I've seen this tried many times. Seriously, if they would just turn electric circus into the underground dance show that it was SUPPOSED to be, instead of the hiphop/rnb show that it has become, I would be a happy man!
You have my support ^_^

No shit that electric circus is a complete joke, it is something I loathe. The host of that show too is about the most crack babyish woman I have ever seen, she is more irritating than anything I've ever seen in my life

I will BTW do this, I just want to get a webpage up soon that people can goto and sign.

electric circus gay. i've seen it like 5 times and every fucking time there is the same retarted looking guy with a smily face hat on in the front...

i'm up for it... but, may i suggest forgetting about EC? it just has too bad of a reputation now. what i want to see is RU Recieving back on the air... that was the best thing much ever had going.

Posted by milos on May-23-2002 01:47:

but you gotta think about it though.. is it a good idea? do we want these idiots listening to our music? do we want to share our goodness with the rest of the world? they could just ruin it somehow.. like overplay it

other than that, im all up for it. i'd like to be more informed visually on the trance scene around the world, as well as in north america.

Have u try BPM:TV on canada on Belvu or expressvu satelite? they play trance videos that are 3-4 months "old" and decent dance/trance music commercials. there top 20 is pretty decent compare to gay MTV's. http://www.bpmtv.com/

Posted by milos on May-23-2002 02:21:

is it possible to get TMF in canada? (on direct tv perhaps)

Posted by yujie__ on May-23-2002 02:25:

i wish they had tmf in the US but they need to take out/finish of that annoying BSing MC on the Djs.

Posted by fastmp3 on May-23-2002 02:43:

don't ever think about receiving TMF in north america ...

Well I think thats a silly thing to say, I mean people who like trance or learn to like it aren't idiots for not liking it before. I mean if people watch trance and learn to love it thats great. The more popular it becomes the better DJs/artists we see here in Canada. I've converted quite a few friends into trance, and I think that should be the goal of every fan, more fans means more exposure to our favorite form of music.

I mean Trance in EU is pretty damn popular but on MTV Europe you still see that same old r&b, hip pop, rap, rock that we see here, but at least they have trance videos too.

it's not gonna happen for a while, so my suggestion is to download SVCD trance vidz from mIRC Efnet #section-e and #musikvideos

I do, right now I have over 350 trance videos.

But the more pressure we put the quicker it comes, I mean if nobody complains they won't be hurrying to change.

I'm realistic, I don't expect sudden change but I do want to keep it in their minds that they are missing a target audience by not playing our music videos.

I'm getting satelite soon anyhow, but I still want to push MTV Canada and Much Music.

From Iceland

My family is from Iceland and I really really want to go, maybe after I grad HS or something.

A couple of my friends have that BPM channel, its ok, nothing to really get excited about. I dont watch tv for trance or electronic, but god if we had TMF I would be in front of my tv 24/7. Someone needs to pirate a europe TV satellite and give us TMF!

BPM TV is pretty good. I heard that it might get shut down since not enough people have signed up for it. As for Much, I'd rather not see Trance Videos on there. I think it's bad enough up here that tracks get leaked onto radio and people think the world of these commercialzed tracks. I've also noticed a few things with Much latley though. During the VJ search they played Tiesto - Dallas 4 PM and I was watching a commercial for the 2002 MMVA(not certain) and they had Spoiled and Zigo - More and More playing in the back ground. Anyone else notice that?

I just don't get this reasoning, I mean in Europe trance is played quite regularily. Why do you think playing trance on Much music is a bad thing?

I want to see trance videos, so do all my friends, and thats what this is all about. More exposure is not going to hurt trance in Canada, because its almost totally ignored as of right now.

The more fans of trance in Canada, the easier it is to get more DJs our way, not just TO and Vancouver either...

Its just silly to try to 'hide' trance from the general public, we should be promoting it, not keeping it underground.

If you think popularity of trance is so bad, why then is Holland and the UK hotbeds for awesome DJ's and great trance? The more popular this music gets in Canada the better it is for us.

do you guys realize that this will push trance further into the mainstream and eventually destroy our genre???

Yeah, god forbid we have a trance scene like Holland and the UK... Phew thank god we stopped this before anyone played trance videos!

I hear the popularity of trance in Holland has ruined the scene, thank god we have Canada and the US where real trance lives!

i disagree, you will just see a dividing line between commercial and underground trance, just like you see it now in europe, and you will always have a choice as to what you want to listen... i think it would be a really GOOD idea to start up a trance tv station, cuz when you think about it, if they play trance tunes, it generates more money for the producers of trance, hence, more quality tunes! and the more people listen to trance, the bigger and better trance parties will get in north america, just like in europe!

most of you are looking at this selfishly, "oh, screw that, keep that scene undergruond for ourselves"... thats stupid and ignorant

guy, the north american main stream and the european mainstream are completely different and shouldn't be used as a basis for comparison... i'm telling you, if Trance become's Americanized it's over for the genre... Europe actually has culture... North America has trends and greedy corporations.... don't be ignorant...

Ignorant? Well I have lived in Europe and North America. Trance will not be ruined by having trance videos played, the source of trance will always be mostly from EU, but of course with gaining popularity here in NA it will bring more DJs/producers/artists into the genre as it gains in popularity.

To say that popularity will kill trance in NA, thats just silly.

More importantly you seem to think that in EU there isn't cheesy music, that record companies, radio/tv don't play cheesy popular music. Well they do, its very similar to here. Look at the UK top 20, its full of Britney Spears, N'Sync, etc...

The difference is that in most of EU there is a trance scene where theres a top 20 club listing, dance video countdown on MTVeurope, chill out on MTVeurope, and party tracks on friday night on MTVeurope.

The difference is not that money and popular music are king, the difference is trance a less popular form of music has its own strong following and thus gets its own music video shows, radio stations, etc.

You want to call me ignorant, fine, but I have seen first hand both continents approach to music, have you?
