getting off the horse & going back to school

Sucks

Im just taking one class for web design. I guess with my limited experiance, after this class i will be able to control my website without paying the tool $65 an hour now who does a dipshit job. But being surrounded by clueless hippies wearing sandles really sucks.

Posted by gehzumteufel on Aug-13-2008 16:41:

Honestly, you can learn that shit without taking a class. HTML is so fucking easy to pick up.

Ugh tell me about it. I have to go to court and petition to get back into the University. I followed their academic probation rules, and they said they weren't going to let me back in! It's the only state school within 2 hrs of where I live, every other school near me is over fifteen grand a year. And the class times there suck ass. You can't even work your senior year cause they pull the "that class is ONLY available in the fall on Tuesdays at 1030".

It took me 4 years to get my AA (working full time etc), it's been a yr since I've been out of school... so by the time I finally graduate it'll probably be 8 years of school for a BA. RETARDED.

Posted by winston on Aug-13-2008 16:53:

agree with Ben, most of my work is based on database, PHP and dreamweaver.

dreamweaver = easy to learn ( no classes necessary IMO )

I was going to quote a movie as it seemed appropiate,

"R U Ridin' the white pony, son?!" lulz

Damn that sucks! I've personally been in academic probation. The stupid college loaded up stupid courses to my schedule that were useless. Most of those courses consisted of some type of "behavioral evaluation" on why wasnt I excelling on my ecademic performance

But I bitched to my advisor that I wasnt going to burn my money on useless courses that had nothing to do with my academic performance and surprisenly she overwrote them.

DW is pretty easy to learn honestly. It is just not something as easy as frontpage that is for sure.

You can't work and go to school because of a scheduling conflict? Get a different job lol. I work 40 hours a week usually and go to school and have found a job which I can fit into my schedule.

I guess if you are talking 9-5 I see, but it's hard to have a 9-5 mon-fri without scheduling conflicts with a full schedule almost anywhere I'd imagine.

Sucks though, I'll have a BFA in 3 years- I'll be 20.

thats the problem, both of those programs are Greek to me. I figured i might as well just take the class & learn it from top to bottom.

I will be 25 when I finally get my ass back to school. And it will take me about 5-6 years to get my shit done.

true, these days they pay you alot for things any kid from 12th grade can accomplish.

Posted by junkproject on Aug-13-2008 17:27:

Maybe you should be more specific on what you want to learn and what you are trying to do with the website. HTML/Frontpage/dreamweaver are beginners tools and easy to work with. If you want to design a nice site, I would look into adobe photoshop(the best way to make templet design). Than there's advance scripting and data base(php, cgi, css, pearl, sql).

Amen to that. And all the fuck tards in the industry that know jack shit to be some net admin that has his peons do all the work cause hes a clueless fuck.

Posted by jonSun on Aug-13-2008 17:33:

The funniest thing is that this college is the same community college i went to when i was 18/19 then dropped out to work full time in advertising. When i dropped out i didnt withdraw, i just stopped going which gave me bad grades in the classes i was enrolled in. I figured fuck it, im never going back here again.

Now i go to enroll in a class & there is a hold on my account & i cant take a class until i go to this dumb ass counselor meeting with a number of other people. During the group meeting, the councelor is going over each student 1 by 1 discussing why we had poor grades the last semester. Finally she gets to me & i show her my transcript & my last class i took was 1997. She then was like oh shit you dont even look 25. That got me outta there fast with the counselor approval slip. I guess its a good thing i dont look my age.

Im going back to school aug 25, for certification classes(a+,n+,cisco, server+). Im 24 how sad......

Posted by winston on Aug-13-2008 17:34:

well, if you think about. if you grew up in our computer generation, you're probably ending up hooked on technology from the get-go.

i mean, what i'm trying to say is that most of the software out there has, man, just a bunch of manuals scattered over the web. no need to pay for a class (except for php, sql and c++) imo.

Overall I agree with this fully. The only one that I mostly disagree with is the cisco courses. Only because they have the hardware there that you can fuck with. Otherwise, the rest of the shit, with the exception of engineering for obvious reasons, you can learn at home or on the go.

And yeah I have had technology around forever. Had a computer since I was 10yrs old, but was using them a few years before that.

That is just too fucking late. Seriously, a career change after 35, unless forced because of medical, is a waste and stupid imho. Unless it is to start your own business.

Posted by winston on Aug-13-2008 17:49:

good, that was my point. meh, classes always help i guess...

Posted by junkproject on Aug-13-2008 17:50:

I believe you have to take the cisco course to be able to take the cert test.
