Cops Allege Drug Dealers Were Mixing Crack With Weed To Get Buyers Hooked Thursday August 14, 2008 CityNews.ca Staff Toronto police allege a group of drug dealers were trying to get young people hooked on crack by sprinkling the drug on marijuana without their knowledge. Authorities made the discovery after taking down a drug distribution network that was allegedly dealing in the downtown core. "Marijuana is getting mixed with crack cocaine...it's called cocoa puffs," said Det. Sgt. Howie Page. "It's a new source of drug that they're supplying so we're getting kids who are using marijuana and they're believing they're taking marijuana. Now the dealers are sprinkling crack cocaine, so we've got kids getting hooked on crack cocaine which is just a terrible drug to have to try to kick." Police arrested nine people they claim range from street level dealers to the masterminds of the alleged ring after an investigation in which cops seized weapons, cars and more than half a million dollars worth of marijuana and ecstasy. Investigators tracked the street-level sales of the pot and pills for six weeks in the downtown core and executed search warrants at a series of downtown homes allegedly seizing $53,000 in drugs and a firearm. The sting eventually led them to an industrial complex near the 401 and Weston Road. Seven people, whose names are being withheld, were arrested and that probe led authorities to the alleged top-level cultivators and distributors of the marijuana. On Wednesday officers from 51 Division, the Emergency Task Force, Halton and Peel Regional police searched homes in Toronto, Georgetown and Brampton. Authorities claim they found a stash of pot worth $600,000, $16,500 in cash, a gun and ammo and a Taser. Aside from allegedly distributing drugs, cops claim the ring also ran a stolen car operation out of a North York warehouse where the vehicles were apparently dismantled for parts. Authorities have released the names of two suspects accused of masterminding the alleged network. George Vlachos, 37, of Georgetown and Gary Calisto, 37, of Brampton are facing a slew of charges and were scheduled to appear in a Toronto court Thursday morning. Page issued a warning to those considering selling drugs. "We're not going to stop. We're going to work with our colleagues with Toronto drug squad, work with the community...we still have a half a summer yet. With young kids coming to downtown Toronto from all over Canada, we're going to try and knock off the drug dealers." |
lol that makes me want to buy weed off the streets now
JOKING!!
Christ, I thought stuff like that was simply urban legend to scare kids off of trying drugs.
Doesn't crack cost more? lol
I think crack is pretty cheap actually. I'm no master in the art of cooking up crack, but I think after you prepare it - you get quite a bit more bang for your buck than you do with pure coke.
Its why homeless crackheads are crackheads and not coke heads.

Saw a cop on the news call this a 'new trend', and mentioned it by name so a coco-puff. Funny thing is that the new anti-drug commercials call it 'juicy'. Even funnier is that this has been around a LONG time.
nice, gets you down and keeps you goin' at the same time
omg, breaking news...cocoa puffs is sooooo new!
lol
um, no one is getting hooked on crack from cocoa puffs unless they blaze 3-4 times an hour, all day, every day. weak story to stir up paranoia (and they didn't even seize any crack!)

| Originally posted by cenik I saw the first movie a while ago and hadn't yet decided whether I'd watch the second. But what the hell? Why not? I'll give this one a go. I really enjoy (good) documentaries about illicit drugs and, so, I'm looking forward to this one. |

How will they know that they're addicted to crack if they don't know it's in their weed?
