Habs 2008 - 2009 Centennial Season Official Thread.
Can you tell that i am excited?
sad thing is that the bandwagoners won't post until May. Habs gained valuable playoff experience last year, imo. A healthy Koivu and the addition of a policeman (Laraque) should help pay dividends.. and a Mats Sundin would keep them in competition with top eastern teams like Pittsburgh and Washington. Montreal's become an attraction for top free agents to play in again.. unlike Toronto

can't wait!!
anyone else tried getting ticket packages last saturday and failed?
I got mine
its gonna be nice seeing laraque in the lineup as well, now nobody can fuck with our little guys. Laraque is a monster, and arguably the most feared fighter in the nhl.
Tanguay! Avg of 73pts in his last 5 season. Has yet to score 30 goals though. HYPE!!
If sundin does not come i'm confident they will get a big forward or maybe Mathew Schneider. He is old, but with 4 top D men like that, Price, and a dynamic offense we could have a good shot.

or a solid 4th defenceman.
yeah true, but who knows, maybe O'Byrne will breakout, just like komisarek did a year or 2 ago...
hopefully Kovalev will repeat last year's performance...
I think the big surprise this year will be Sergei Kostitsyn...i got a feeling is gonna breakout hard.
Yeah Tanguay excellent playmaker and incredible potential as for scoring, yeah its not Rick Nash but still with the right elements, i feel some magic is about to happen this season. Feeling good about the goalies, although Marc Denis has been like Bush eating pretzels for the past 2 seasons, the guy as it in him, always good to know you have Marc Denis as you're THIRD goalie. Torturella wasnt the go-to guy to build up your confidence anyways.
What, 2 black dudes on the active roster, sometimes there will be three, i smell fried chicken in the locker room
.
You cant look at the roster we have and not drool at the image of the chaos the team will cause this season.Add Ikea to this ,and the furniture will be all set (hmmmmm cheeese.)

if we were to complain, we have too many play makers. I'm thinking carbo will put kovy on the point on the pp to replace streit. If this team stays healthy...oooh boy. So many players have contracts up at the end of the year, that means the extra effort will be there for those big bucks. I even have a feeling we might see Latendress sit in the press box quite a bit to give a chance to Greg Stewart. If he has a good camp i think he can crack the lineup for 20 games this year.
Stewart is just a grinder...theres no room on this talented roster for him right now...especially since we have begin/kostopoulos/lapierre/dandenault all on one-way contracts. Chipchura is also ahead of Stewart in the depth chart, only reason stewart played last year, was because Chipchura could not be called up cuz he was injured. Although i agree Latendresse has been shitty at times, he still scored 16 goals in each of his first 2 seasons, and people will be surprised with him this year i guarantee it. He has a huge upside, paired with the right playmaker (apparently, we have too many lol) he can do some damage. He's got good hands and most of the time, creates his own goals. He's only 21 years old, by 25, everyone will be loving The Tenderness. He'll put up 25-30 a year.
The Montreal Canadiens have called a news conference for Thursday afternoon where the club is expected to announce that Patrick Roy's No. 33 will be raised to the rafters of the Bell Centre this season.
Wouldn't it be great that if it was to annouce the signing of Sundin or a blockbuster move to get a #1 center?
Dom K.
latendresse can't skate backwards.
look at stewarts stats in hamilton. Gainey is really really excited about this young player.
With an extra french player in the locker room (dumbest thing about the habs is language expectations) you can bet latendresse will sit on his ass the minute he messes up.
edit: people who were at the habs golf tourney also said latendresse is about 15 pounds too heavy
. Lazy bastard
