Who are the most under-rated local Toronto DJs/Producers right now?
Politics and ballwashing aside, who do you think are the most under-rated and/or under-appreciated local Toronto DJs right now, and why? I asked this question to a well known local DJ a week or two ago, and he replied with a straight face: "I am." He was dead serious, too. F*cking clown. lol And no, it wasn't Button.
Some criteria you might think about or weigh in on could include: general overall quality of programming, originality of programming, technical expertise, production skills, range or breadth of music knowledge, willingness to take risks, willingness to help other DJs, work ethic, determination, etc.
I dont know if he is underrated... but a DJ I would definitely like to see a lot more of is Jamie Kidd
Andrew McDonnell
Christina Cruise....i've only seen her the one time so far @ Hotel (Fab Strong's B-day)...but she blew everyone away. I didn't want her set to end. And she's young ('86), and gorgeous (added bonus). I'd def. love to see more of her. Amazing track selection, flawless mixing, and great vibe/energy behind the booth. Very impressed.
I've always been impressed with Jason Myles' programming. Without fail.
Andrew McDonnell just has a great attitude, which is bound to take him far. Hard not to love that guy.
Not sure if too many people on here know him, but Greg Goldsack has a great studio setup at his place and always seems willing to collaborate and share production time and ideas.
Jeff Button has a crazy collection of early 90s hip-hop. That kinda surprised me when I first saw it. I'm sure it has influenced his current sound, although obviously in subtle ways.
Carlo Lio clearly has some sick technical skils, but I'm not too sure what software or equipment he is using. Productions are definitely improving over time. I heard his latest release last week (on a big system), and it definitely impressed.
Umar Syed never stops listening to, downloading and playing music in his free time -- EVER. Insane passion for the tunes.
Jared Simms (My Favourite Robot) splits his time between Montreal and Toronto, and always seems to be working hard at his craft. Genuinely nice guy too.
Harpinder Singh
Specialized in bangra house
a d.J with a lot of passion
Loves Onion rings and girls on top

One more thought. I wonder which one of Geroin, Cribby and Highroller will start DJing first? All three of guys have incredible taste in music and base knowledge....it really just seems like a matter of time until one of them gets the bug....
What the f* are you guys waiting for?!?!?!

DJ KURFEW hands down
Here's a guy who still drops epic trance when it doesn't put bread on the table .. nuff respect
The few times I've heard Lee Osborne @ Footwork he's definitely impressed...I think he's opening for Green Velvet on the 20th though, so perhaps he doesn't qualify as underrated.
Though he's a friend of mine, and isn't in the game as much as he should be, I think Matt Brennan is one of the best up and coming DJs I've heard in a while...I understand he'll be starting to spin regularly Wednesday nights at Basement. Good for him--I'd like to see him go places with the ear he has for music. A sunday morning slot at basement and matt brennan would be a great combination.
Highroller + CDJs = epic times. That would be something I'd like to see/hear too.
Jason Myles....everytime I've heard him OH MY HEAD! What great tunes.
Also Lee Osbourne....what a great local for ze bumpin ones
Cribby would provide quite the musical experience....scary or not!
