Most overrated DJ

Who do you think gets too much props as a DJ? Leave the producer side out, cuz even if they suck @ spinning, their production skills might justify their worthiness...
IMO, Ferry Corsten. I know there's alot of FC fans on this forum, but I'm sorry, his sets sound all the same...saccharine, huge sounding anthem after anthem...while his mixing is adequate, his track selection blows.
Just my .02

Dj Scot Project....he gets alot of hype around here...mayb its jsut cuz i dont like harder trance but i dont like him much and Blank & Jones and Cosmic Gate too...i think they are amazing producer's but their mixing and set r so similar and the mixing is bad

Dj Tiesto. His mixing skills are a joke. But his productions are amazing. Reminds me of man with no name. Great producer, but NO mixing skills.

Smile

Pete Tong, Seb Fontaine and Judge Jules but the award has to go to Tall Paul

Hands down, Paul van Dyk! Mwah!

Can't put it any better. Tiesto's production talents are great, but his mixing is anything but!

Talla 2XLC has no mixing skills either!

dumonde used to be wank DJs, then all of a sudden, they went fucking mint! over the space of 3 months, theyre absiloute quality djs now and have much betetr set structure and a defined track style.

as for overated djs, everyone knows my opinion on a certain dj, i dont think he's crap, hes just way overated for his skill.

also tiesto has had a few dire sets in his lifetime. but as andy says, tall paul wins hands down!

most over-rated? Well Blank and Jones are pretty much lacking if you ask me. I can pull off better mixes than them (sometimes).
but their not really over-rated to start with.

Probably Paul Van Dyk.. don't really like his sets.

Most under-rated I would say is Johan Gielen!!! he's got some crazy skills

Posted by benfica88 on May-29-2002 02:24:

Darude

Posted by FinnHawk on May-29-2002 02:45:

Darude is NOT a DJ. He doesn't mix records (or anything else for that matter). His sets are LIVE PA.

Judge Jules is overrated. He should stick to beating the shit out of people when spinnign in clubs. hehe..j/k

Posted by Cyrus King on May-29-2002 02:55:

Sasha and john digweed, Oakenfold
Whats the big fucking deal... their sets are just plain and boring

When he came to CT he was mixing or faking it. So I was told.

Posted by frontebb on May-29-2002 03:00:

Darude is shit.

Posted by tranceaholic on May-29-2002 03:01:

sahsa and digweed way over rated. dont like there stuff..

Posted by FinnHawk on May-29-2002 03:21:

you may not like the tracks and style they play, but you shouldn't judge them as DJs on that alone. You should judge them on their actual DJing skills (mixing, beatmatching, flow, programming, etc.) and on that they cannot be faulted. So therefore, even tho I'm not a huge fan of theres either, I do not believe they are overrated DJs.

in my opinion PvD's sets all sound the same. i have just stoped downloading his stuff

Posted by frontebb on May-29-2002 03:32:

john '00' fleming is proper. So is James Holden. What about Ralphie B.? Does he just produce? And Gabriel & Dresden? What the news on them? Anyone?

Most overrated DJ's:
Paul van Dyk, Paul Oakenfold, Tiesto, Ferry Corsten.

I don't like any of them. When the money goes to their heads and they get famous, they start acting "cool" and dissing Trance, which is the fashionable thing to do nowadays. Ferry Corsten and Tiesto, both of whom have had their day, may not be dissing Trance but they're gradually moving away from the uplifting, melodic style that made them famous. Ferry's productions are becoming shitty, and Tiesto is venturing further into boring Progressive. Paul van Dyk is even embarassed to say the word "Trance"; he always says "electronic dance music" to be cool and distance himself from Trance -- what a hypocrite! As for Paul Oakenfold, his music is extremely boring and slow, and has no energy or excitement whatsoever. His music is for the headphones, not for the dancefloor.

In short, I dislike all of these famous DJ's, because they're embarassed to play the music I like. You might ask: what kind of music do I like? I like hard, fast, and _melodic_ memorable Trance, that really hypes you up and fills you with energy! (Stuff spun by our DJ Dawn, for instance.)

This question again...
Famous DJs do not need to mix super fine when they are gods. PvD could stand not for 3 minutes on the stage but for 15 and they would shout and shout

Paul Van Dyk <------Joke
