Arrow Guy J appreciation thread

I love this guys production work. I have yet to hear a dj set by him. Any one have any feed back on his sets? Or producers with a similar sound?

With the exception of his Ron Hardy Said EP(which in reality I only really enjoy the Eric Prydz Mix), I haven't been impressed with a lot of his stuff with the exception of under pressure, his mongoose remix and my favorite Agent Blue. His Dj sets I heard are pretty mediocre(ala Guy Gerber). He has something to him though that if he switched it up a little bit more I bet he would be pretty top quality.

Agent Blue was the last track he made that I liked.

Otheriwise not a fan of the 2008 prog sound...

Chaim sounds a lot like Guy J. I appreciate the music he makes, I think it's very unique and quite fresh. But I don't see myself playing a lot (if any) of his current tracks out even though I bought them

Really liked Geko and Save Me, just no place to play them really. Too "big room" I suppose.

That said, I'll probably pick up his CD at some point.

Self Love (Original and Joachim Spieth Remix)
Ear Canal
Save Me
Been Here Before (Dub)
Geko

All appreciated. Everything else...meh.

Mikro - I hated this when I first heard it, but Digweed dropped it live and the 2nd half is so bad ass on a nice club system
Geko
Self Love
Save Me
Love Is Not Alone
Druma

There's also a few others I like but can't remember, generally a rising new talent.

Geko's nice, Digweed ended with Esperanza when he was here last week and I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would've.

I appreciate the guys talent, but I personally agree with this.

Save Me & Night Loss absolutely destroyed me

Posted by Lomeli on Sep-20-2008 04:27:

He makes good tracks to listen to, but it's not something I would play.

Posted by Aaron C. on Sep-20-2008 04:37:

any one have a set of his they could upload?Or at least a tracklist? i'd like to see or hear what he plays maybe both.

good producer. good sound.

Posted by elFreak on Sep-20-2008 18:47:

guy gerber is better.

He's really hit or miss for me, but I played Mikro (Club Mix) last night, and it worked beautifully in the club.

Posted by shonguiz on Sep-20-2008 19:31:

A little bit overhyped talent, like some tracks but that's it, he's not the type of producer i am waiting for his releases.

This thread was a long time coming.

Appreciated.

Amsterdam is my favorite of his, seems to be a little different than a lot of his other stuff

Error Error remix of Under Pressure is great too.

I prefer Chaim as a previous post mentioned, and of the 'Guys' I think Guy Gerber is better

Paolo Mojo & Jim Rivers did the original, Diego.

And I love Guy J's mixdown ability. All of his tracks sound so thick. As for musicality, only a few hit with me.

/thread

over rated.

True, but he has couple of good tracks, mainly for home listening... Guy Gerber is far better, imo.

beast of a producer for sure. much love for 'been here before'

Decent producer imo. I always liked Skin.

He played live at Laundry (Sydney) back in July and i rate most of his material and remixes so i was looking forward to the night

Anyway, he played live and his mixing was a bit hit and miss but i really enjoyed his set, some really big monsters and lovely prog. Suffice to say that crowd was loving it and over 2 hours i really understand why he is rated so highly

Just like Magda owes hers to Hawtin.

I'll be reviewing his album in the next few days. I'll pass judgement on Guy J as a whole after that.
