Dancing Dude Serato and Ableton announce a creative partnership

http://scratchlive.net/news/id/2233

--------------

Serato and Ableton are happy to announce a partnership, which will pave the way for the future of Digital DJing.

With shared artist rosters from hip-hop (DJ Jazzy Jeff, DJ Nu-Mark, A-Trak) to electronica
(Paul Van Dyk, DJ Sasha), both Ableton Live and Serato Scratch Live are renowned as the premier
performance platforms in clubs around the globe.

While Seratos Scratch Live excels in vinyl emulation, music library control and lightning quick hands-on
scratching, Ableton Live provides the tools for production, on-the-fly remixing and beat creation.

Ableton and Serato take different approaches to modern musical performance, says Ableton CEO
Gerhard Behles, But both companies live by the philosophy that software should be straightforward,
easy to use, and most importantly, reliable and stable onstage and in the studio. Ableton has never had
an answer for the DJ who wants vinyl control, and rather than try to emulate what Serato do so well, we
simply make sure that our products work well together.

Serato Audio Research CEO Steve West agrees. After years of talking together, were thrilled to be
working with Ableton. Its exciting to think about what we can offer to DJs and producers: the ability to
go beyond just spinning records and add a personal stamp to the music they play.

Just where this Serato and Ableton collaboration will take us has yet to be seen but one thing is clear:
the worlds of DJing, remixing and production for artists worldwide have changes ahead.

About Ableton
Ableton develops technology to inspire creative people. Since the company started in 1999, Ableton has attracted an extensive and highly committed community of musicians, composers, and DJs worldwide. Currently, Ableton counts about one hundred employees in its Berlin and New York offices.
The company has received outstanding press, awards and customer feedback since the unveiling of Live in October 2001.

If you fall into the "Ableton DJs are shit because the program just mixes it for you", then you need to be beaten. Repeatedly.

This is another step forward in DJing as you can do a hell of a lot more than with just decks. The possibilities are endless.

How is the art lost anyway? I see DJs even today in clubs pull out a record in the middle of a set.. And CDJs and such have been around for so long but some people do still have love for Vinyl.

My dad dj'd in church halls during the 1970's with two belt drive turntables. he shits on all of you.

fuck your new technology.

i refuse to play records unless they are original, not reissued, jazz 78's kept in cold storage.

i wont play it through anything less than an original urei or bozak mixer.

Unless the speakers were handmade by two germans in an attic you can kiss my prick.

Just because your maw has 7 Bananarama records in the cupboard and your old man has a turntable doesn't mean that you're a troubador sworn to the cause of upholding DJing morals and ethics. shut the fuck up you tit. nothing is original or special.

That is pretty fucking good.

Now just substitute the music for any genre you want and you're set.

Most people hate how things become. They shun any update to what has been going on for so long.

You are one arrogant stupid little bitch.

First of all, how does serato take away from the art of djing at all?
Secondly, get over yourself, beatmatching is something any retard can perfect.
I learnt on shitty old turntables that had knobs for pitch control but so what. I use ableton now because I would love to see your turntable do half the shit ableton can.

Now, I'm not saying anything is wrong with mixing using decks but the point has and always will be about the final product, not what you used.

Go cry somewhere else.

+1. Vinyl will always have a place in my heart, but I am very open to updates in DJ technology and am quite excited about the possibilities of this collaboration.

Me too, I already own Ableton and Serato so I'm hoping it is some form of integration and not a new interface.

Excellent, Vinyl/cd control in abes is what lots of DJs have been looking for for ages. A better library function would be great too.

Posted by djdk on Oct-18-2008 11:03:

interesting, i ahve been debatiing upgrading my old fs 1.5 to either traktor scratch or serato, this may swing it...

Posted by blacknoizybox on Oct-18-2008 11:26:

you think you can produce great music on-the-fly? go turn a midi knob until you cum
