Fabulous Fest Semi Review

I don't feel like writing a lot, but I just wanted to post up how much of a good time I had at this event. It was a really good vibe all night. Being a Vegas Resident I could not believe I was in my own town all night last night. Felt like an event I use to drive hours to cali to go to.

I know they only did about half the numbers they wanted, and im willing to guess they probably did not make any money on the event, but from what I hear they were not to concerned with that from the start.

I really hope that this might do something for our Scene and get away from all the club crap thats out here.

The event was deff not perfect and they have some kinks they need to work out on the production level, but im sure everything will be fixed next time they do another event, witch from what i heard is in summer some time.

Re: Fabulous Fest Semi Review

I had such a great time at this event. The music was awesome!
Robbie Rivera's, BBB's, and Deadmau5's sets were pretty bad ass (Armin was kinda flat and did'n get to see Digital boy). Nice to see so many happy faces all over the place.

It would be great if we had an event like this for this new year's in Vegas. Come on Guiv...make it happen!

I have to agree..

This did not feel like a typical vegas event.

It was fun from beginning to end... but deadmau5 was not as good as I've seen him in the past.

There were some great costumes and everyone was having a good time though

Best moment of the night:

Bob M = "Dave! what's up man!!"
Dave T = "Do I know you???"

Dufus...

F'n FUN FUN FUN.
The event was much better than I expected.
Funny thing is, it just got better as the night got along.

We got there are midnight. The place was dead overall. No one roaming around. Floor _maybe_ half full.

At first, I was real disappointed. One with the attendance at that point, but then the production.

There were only like four spot lights going on. I was mentioning this to Gil and saying how a cool idea would be for as the night went along, to increase the production.

And holy crap, it's exactly what they did!

It went from four spot lights (or so) above the stage...then they added lights in the back. Then as the night went along, two lasers. Then after that, a third laser. Then LED lights across the front of the stage after that. Then lights above the crowd.

THis was all done in steps (or seemed) in a couple hour span between when I got there and when Armin got on...

Also, from midnight until Armin came on, the floor good pretty full. Not packed. Stands weren't packed. But as this is the first Fabulous Fest, I never expected that. The crowd size left me satisfied.

I loved the VIP booths being along the side of the main floor. Note to the side of the stage or behind it where you couldn't really see the DJ.

The DJ setup outside needs to be reworked. The sound was just whack out there, and the DJ was having a real hard time until we went back in.

Bad Boy Bill, just not my style.
Robbie Rivera, solid. Nothing spectacular.
Armin, I thought he was great! I dunno, maybe it's Vegas, but I had more energy last night, rather sober (I only had like 1 1/2 drinks all night, though strong) than I had in a long time. If you knew me in 2003 here I just went ballistic to anything good and energetic, that was me last night.

I had a great time. I thought the organization of the event was solid for a first attemt and can be built upon.

Crowd was a good mix of Vegas types, hollywoods types, and your candy ravers types.

Between Armin and Deadmau5, they had some down time as I guess DEadmau5's stuff wasn't all the way setup? A little downtime just happens sometimes, BUT PLAING F'N HIP HOP (even though at a low volume) while they were doing it!?? WTF!?!?!?!

While waiting outside for a taxi back to my hotel, people were still showing up in stretch limos...all they wanted to see that night was Deadmau5.

ANyhow, had a great time. I am scared of the videos captured of me jumping up and down on the couch lol. Sure some people will see it as odd of me, but if you knew me 5 years ago...that was me every weekend if the music was good. COuld be completely sober and go more ballistic than anyone else in the club.

Bob, man...I'm sorry. Just last time I saw you you....more hair? lol. A lore more. Shaggy hair! Now you're all clean cut. A startling moment. Heheh...you look good man. Hope Vegas is treating you well.

Man, I don't agree (and I'll point out bland AvB sets in an instance). I though he started real stuff, but by three tracks in it was banging.

My only issue was a few of the last tracks. Nirvana (everyone will always complain about this, lol), Smack by Bitch up (overdone, like Nirvana)...and then closing with a couple big tunes of his...which is expected, but like it when a set is finished off banging and just right!

Well being that this was my first Vegas event. Over all I had a fabulous time. A little disappointed with the turn out but I still had a fabulous time. Armin rocked!Danced the whole time my feet where killing me yesterday! But so worth it! Was not to impressed with Deadmus set though. All well maybe next time.

Thanks Bob and Kris for making this weekend fabulous you guys are the best!

Re: Re: Re: Fabulous Fest Semi Review

It wasn't a bad set but I guess I was expecting him to rock the house like he used to do back in the day at Circus. It reminded me of the set he threw at coachella '05. Overall I like Robbie Rivera's set the most and although I am not a big fan of BBB, I was impressed with his set.

Vegas has always had potential. imo
just have to do it right and promote it right.

Posted by groovedaddy21 on Nov-03-2008 18:46:

If you're going to promote events in Vegas keep in mind that the economy here is the worst in the nation with the highest unemployment rate (7.3%). The 'strip' is being hit hard right now with flights into the city dropping 13%, about 500,000 fewer visitors. Gambling revenue fell 8% across all of MGM's properties, food and beverage sales dropped 3%, entertainment revenue decreased 4%, etc.

Posted by roxb0x on Nov-03-2008 20:40:

lol I remember way back in 2001, there was a huge all-ages rave/event call "Spring" thrown by Coolworld that even *I* promoted for. This was held @ the now-named "All American Sports Park" on LV Blvd.

quote:
On Sat., March 31, 8 p.m.-6 a.m., national rave promoter Coolworld will debut its national spring party seriesand its Vegas event serieswith a huge, 10,000-capacity party at the All American Sportpark on E. Sunset Road and S. Las Vegas Blvd. "Spring" will feature the talents of national DJs Christopher Lawrence, Spacemen (live performance act), Mixmaster Mike, Doran, Bad Boy Bill, DJ Rap, Tall Paul, Reza and more. Locals spinning include Jared Nichols, Scott Stubbs, Robert Oleysyck, The Funkler, Speedy, Jachin Russell, Duane King, Soulo and others. Tickets are onsale at coolworld.com, Ticketmaster, Liquid 303, Basik Records and Hip Hop Site for $20, but after 2000 are sold, prices increase to $30; tickets at the door will be $35. Info: 225-7383.

With so many different rooms, a huge hockey rink for the main stage, I thought Vegas had finally hit the big time with major EDM events. So many locals there, and EVERYONE was deep into the scene.

Then it got busted just before midnight.

No more huge events like that were attempted since then. Smaller events failed. Then came Pimp n Ho's, first @ Rain and then @ the Orleans arena. I went when it was held @ the orleans arena, and was imo, an decent edm success (but i think they played hip hop in some of the rooms? not sure).

The thing with Vegas, though, is that I don't believe there is enough of a local client base to support such massive events. I'd say you might get as much as 30% of total ticket sales from the local market, but with all the old-schoolers all grown up and out of the scene, you're stuck with a small niche market in Vegas. Thus, you need to reach out to socal, which just had a 40/50k+ MM the week before, and tons of local club events with top dj's (Cosmic @ Spin, for instance) the same weekend.

Vegas' once-thriving edm scene was left behind in the place where it once began, in the desert sands (blue diamond rd, north vegas etc). Attempts to bring EDM into the mass tourist market are definitely a hard sell to those who aren't familiar and unwilling to shell out $60, especially without a familiar name.

The music scene is too saturated with house and hip hop (at least when I left in '05), so I think throwing money at anyone not named Tiesto would be a waste for such a huge event. But I do wonder how that Oakenfold weekly is doing @ Palms. I saw him once (unfortunately) @ hard rock ~2001/2002, but that was it.

God forbid, even I was into house music more than trance (mostly due to friends, as well as many local spots with great dj's). Vegas is such a mainstream hellhole if you ask me.

Yup, sadly I dread going to mainstream venues like Tryst, Tao, Bank, LAX, Jet and all the other ones that play some kind of a clusterfuck mix of hip hop, rock and Darude.

I used to hear that noise @ rain when it was the "it" spot, week after week after week (I went b/c of free hookups, can't blame me ).. ughhh. I can't believe some of these people pass as dj's, but what do I know.

lol @ darude.. so true.

Posted by bscarbro on Nov-03-2008 22:22:

One word

WOW!!!!!

Armin did not play like he does in LA. His set was hard all night and spot on with every track he played. Think that was a mash up of the Smack my Bitch Up track that he played!! All the DJs pretty much killed it imo!!

Posting from my cell at work right now so i'll finish my thoughts when I get home.

darude is actually in vegas wednesday, you guys in vegas should go check him out.

This was a complete last minute trip... LET'S JUST GO FOR IT!!!
We drive up to Vegas Sat. afternoon.. ZERO traffic!! WOO HOO!!
We meet up with Bob, grab some dinner, then start getting ready!

Get to the Orleans around 10:30 to meet up with Peter. We have a few cocktails at the bar, then decide to make our way into the event.

Getting inside was a breeze....

The VIP..umm... well it was super far away from the stage, and drinks were not free

I know BBB completely lost us.. we had to go outside for awhile..

Robbie Rivera was ok, he got us up and dancing..

Armin came on.. I made my way to the front..good grief.. could he be any further away? Everyone in front was cool, no pushing, shoving or BS..

Armin played some good songs, I feel like he pretty much just played every song from his ASOT CD's...
It was nice to see him, since it's been a year and a half.

Deadmau5.. pretty disappointed with his set.. I was looking forward to seeing him too..It just wasn't going anywhere.

We decided to head out before Digital Boy...

After Fabulous we decided to head over to Drais.. the music was better, but the people... well.. if you've been to Drais you know

We stayed there a couple of hours, drank, danced, and people watched..:stounge:

Finally headed back to Bob's for a serious Power NAP!!
The Drive home... SUCKSSSS!! TONS OF TRAFFIC!!

Overall it was a great trip.. Catching up with friends and dancing till dawn..:tounge2

Thank you Bob, Christina, and Peter..This couldn't have been possible for me with out you! I LOVE YOU GUYS!! XO

i should have totally gone!

Posted by bscarbro on Nov-04-2008 22:39:

Okay. I didn't have a chance to post when I got home last night but here it is.

Seriously one of the best events I've been to in a really long time!!!

Straight from the time I walked in I was feeling the music. I believe the opening DJs name was Chris Garcia. Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought the guy did a pretty good job.

After that Cube guys came on and I really don't feel there music to much but maybe it was the whole Vegas vibe that had me enjoyin them that night.

Then Bad Boy Bill!! I haven't seen the guy in probably 5 years but damn I was impressed for sure. The guy was droppin these grungy ass beats that had me dancin non stop. Will definitely be seeing him again!!

Robbie Rivera did a pretty good job too I thought. When he opened up with "Back to Zero" I was stoked. Got a pretty cool video of it too

Armin was hands down the best I've ever seen him. I don't what it was but he doesn't play like that in LA. He played harder than any time I've seen him before. I doubt it but did anybody happen to get a tracklist for his set? I knew a majority of the songs that he played but the ones that I didn't know were absolute floor bangers!!

My buddy and I thought he might have been a little buzzed that night. Every time he turned around he was taking a gulp of whatever it was that he was drinking. LOL. Cool stuff to see when DJs are having a good time like that. Maybe he was feeling the Vegas vibe as much as everyone else.

Anyways, the night was incredible and I will be back in Vegas for the next show like this one!!!
