when is enough... enough?

so here's the situation. my heat doesn't work very well. i mean, it works sometimes... but i have to go up to my attic at least twice every night to reset the furnace to get it to work. this has been going on for several weeks now and it's only getting colder.

the problem is, i like my landlord a lot. i don't want to get bitchy but i'm sick of dealing with this. he's been over here at least several times per week trying to fix it himself, but it hasn't gotten any better.

what can i do?

Posted by Renzo on Dec-05-2008 04:16:

I can't believe Melissa fucked up your furnace. That whore.

Posted by lcid on Dec-05-2008 04:18:

that must be the problem... the drain pipe is clogged with alts!

the landlord has a contractual obligation to you. just ask him to get a professional to fix it.

Posted by Sushipunk on Dec-05-2008 04:23:

Your landlord does have an obligation to keep your shit working, whether you like him or not. Just say to him "Yeah, it's fucked again. I really think we need to get a proper technician in to fix it".

Edit: Fucking PKC

Telling him you don't want to freeze your ass off in the home you pay rent in is not bitchy.

Ffs.

in most, if not all states in the US, heat is one of the only requirements in a rental. they need to get you at least one of those oil filled radiator heaters, maybe even for each room.

in california you'd be able to subtract rent for every day you didn't have heat.

if you like the landlord just keep up the pressure i guess. or as my fogey parents would say "wear a sweater" lol. eff that.

hopefully your hot water tank in your attic is suitable for your place. :/ if it's like a 10 gallon tank for an house with multiple accesses to hot water, then that's no good.

Don't you have a cat? It's really dangerous for your house to get super cold as it endangers your pet. Tell your landlord it's for the kitty, and maybe they'll feel a bit more spurred to do something about it.

Sasha doesn't give a damn how cold it gets in here. cats can survive the cold no problem. and it doesn't get that cold. it's not completely broken, it just doesn't heat up to what i set the thermostat at sometimes.

like tonight it was 56 for a while when i had it set at 67.

Posted by Halcyon+On+On on Dec-05-2008 04:50:

So set it to 90 and then maybe it will be a comfy 72?

It is currently 17.5C/63.5F in my room right now. I fucking love it.

Posted by JD8180 on Dec-05-2008 05:32:

70F is where it's at.

In Miami, once you hit the 60's is when everyone busts out with the sweaters and jackets.

Usually because it is a genetic thing. I start to sweat when it gets around 80F and it is that hot or hotter most of the time.

I keep mine at 14c at night. Sleeps so good when it's cold.

Stop paying rent until it's fixed.
