Question Promoting etiquitte on Facebook

You know when you get an invite for an event, and someone can't go, and they KNOW they can't go, so that person will say they are not attending the night, but also adding a comment on the wall saying
"Sorry, but I'm spinning at "such & such" a place the same night"...

Do you think there's some sorta tolerance for it, is it accepted, or do you think it really pisses people off?

Is it good or bad self-promotion?

Personally I'm a bit impartial to the whole idea of it. I don't do it, but my friends do, and I've never really bothered to know what people think about it either.

There is no etiquette on facebook....people basically get spammed with invites from ten different "promoters" for one party..sometimes a single "promoter" will send you the same invite for one party 5 different times....if people want to spam their walls with self promotion, i say go for it...

I liken it to using the search function.

actually this is likely the case of a promoter using the "Invite Group" option... for some wack (and annoying) reason Facebook automatically re-sends you that same invite unless you accept/decline...

i think its stupid no matter who it is saying tehy cant come

hell people that put maybe or yes are even worse just cos they think "oh im gonna put yes or maybe so i dont hurt the person sending me this invite"

Post whatever you want.

If the event host doesn't like what you post, they can just delete it from their event wall.

lol. i read the thread title wrong and i thought you are starting a campaign to promote etiquette on facebook. like you were getting a list of politeness rules together to promote politeness on facebook. but alas another "promoting on facebook" waste of time thread.

^^^ I thought the same thing.

is etiquitte a band or something?

Posted by teufel-man on Dec-17-2008 16:38:

Usually theres no reason to explain why you arent coming anyways... they invite like 2500 to a party that has a capacity of like 300... its not like they need or want to hear an explanation as to why any one person is not attending.

Obviously if its a good friends bday then its a different story but then you would probably call them on the phone and tell them why you are coming as opposed to using facebook.

Posted by cammaxwell on Dec-17-2008 16:41:

it is funny how most people posting on the wall are the one's saying they can't go......lol

I even had a guy post on my event for CZ last Sun saying "screw that!"......lol.....why even put the effort in if you don't care to go???

lol

+1

so gay when people feel the need to let the world know they can't attend (insert any large scale party) cuz they're staying home with the gf to watch movies...

Thankfully I have deleted most promoters from my facebook friend list because of the spamming, so I only get invites from actual friends and I actually like reading why they can or cannot come on the event wall.

LOL
i remember sometime ago in basically every single EDM fb event invite this girl would write

"STILL IN IBIZA BABE, CANNOT MAKE IT, x0x0x0x"

this lasted for like a month

I hate the trend of someone randomly adding you on facebook and then sending tons and tons of invites....I had one where someone added me and the same day I got 3 different invites from that one person...deleted that person the same day........my inbox is not a garbage can If i need info on certian event or party I know how to look for all the details about it.

obviously she had to let everyone now how cool she is that she's in Ibiza

Posted by Anas Attia on Dec-17-2008 17:46:

ha ha, the people that leave msgs like that are the end of me...

The worst as you said Mortyman is when you invite a whole bunch of people and some dj asswhole is like..
"cant make it man, im busy spinning at "club name" at "time slot" at "date" its gonna be crazy!!!" self promotion stupidness, so to answer your question its looked down upon.

I hate it the most when random promoters that have not only added me with no pretense but wouldn't make any effort to introduce themselves advertise on my personal wall with their shit, or on one of my "specific purpose" groups
