Turkey to buy 32 Mi-28 attack helicopters from Russia

| Turkey to buy 32 Mi-28 attack helicopters from Russia - report ANKARA, December 22 (RIA Novosti) - Turkey plans to buy 32 used Mi-28 (Havoc) helicopters from Russia in a deal worth a total of $1 billion, a national Turkish daily reported on Monday. Vatan said the decision to buy helicopters from Russia was made after talks for purchases of Cobra and Super Cobra helicopter gunships failed with the United States. Russian helicopters will tide Turkey over until deliveries of Agusta A-129 Mangusta helicopters, co-produced with Italy's Agusta Westland, are received by the Turkish Armed Forces. The Italian company won a tender for the production of 52 helicopters in 2007. The Turkish Defense Ministry has yet to officially confirm the report by Vatan. The Mi-28 is an all-weather day-night attack helicopter manufactured by the Rostvertol plant in southern Russia. |
Neat.
Mi-28

But though Mi-28 is cool, it doesn't even get close to this baby.
Ka-52

and not even close to this bad boy:

Apache is too slow.

Turkey should liberate Iraq.
Cause that wouldn't make things worse.
And restore peace back in region.
Somehow I don't think an invasion by secular Muslims that have a history of stomping on the Kurds is a recipe for peace in a religious country with a large population of Kurds.
You all fail.

Krypton, What is this piece of ancient junk doing here?
Come back when it will be able to do this:
A Cold War stinger missile can shoot that hulk of metal out of the sky.

Just like a Russian, to underestimate the Afghans.

Trump all yo asses!

They are trying to make one together with some Italian consortium, but it's gonna take some time. Meanwhile they need some to fight against Kurdish separatists.
They talked to the US on buying Cobra/SuperCobra helicopters, but the deal has been turned down. So now they are up to for Russian stuff.

| Like other Kamov helicopters, it features Kamov's characteristic contra-rotating co-axial rotor system, which removes the need for the entire tail-rotor assembly and improves the aircraft's aerobatic qualities -- it can perform loops, rolls, and the funnel (circle-strafing) where the aircraft maintains a line-of-sight to target while flying circles of varying altitude, elevation, and airspeed around it. Using two rotors means that a smaller rotor with slower moving rotor tips can be used compared to a single rotor design. Since the speed of the advancing rotor tip is a primary limitation to the maximum speed of a helicopter, this allows a faster maximum speed than helicopters such as the AH-64. The elimination of the tail rotor is a qualitative advantage because the torque-countering tail rotor can use up to 30% of engine power. Furthermore, the vulnerable boom and rear gearbox are fairly common causes of helicopter losses in combat (as proven in Vietnam); the Black Shark's entire transmission presents a comparatively small target to ground fire. Kamov maintains that the co-axial drive assembly is built to survive hits from 23 mm ammunition like the other vital parts of the helicopter.[citation needed] The zero native torque also allows the aircraft to be fairly immune to wind strength and direction, and to have an unsurpassed turn rate in all travel speed envelopes. |
