It's about time Israel responded to the ongoing barrage of rockets Hamas has been firing lately.
Don't mess with Israel.
Posted by Damerchi on Dec-27-2008 17:50:
well a very proportionate response
those rockets fired by Hamas really destroyed that Israeli tumbleweed

16 Israelis have been killed by Palestinian rocket fire since 2000 CLICK. Meanwhile, 192 Palestinians are killed in just one day by Israel. According to that ratio alone, Israel deserves every mortar and rocket that comes out of Gaza.

Said Masri sat in the middle of a Gaza City street, close to a security compound, alternately slapping his face and covering his head with dust from the bombed-out building.
"My son is gone, my son is gone," wailed Masri, 57. The shopkeeper said he sent his 9-year-old son out to purchase cigarettes minutes before the airstrikes began and now could not find him. "May I burn like the cigarettes, may Israel burn," Masri moaned. |
Oh yeaaa, those rockets sure are gonna stop now aren't they?

Israel is asking for it. They have a right to defend themselves (thats disregarding arguments about the legitimacy of their state though) but they need to defend themselves with equal and restrained force.

data: 200 rockets fired despite and since the truce brokered last week.
- 3000 rockets this year alone.
there are no "ratio's" in war...and yes, THATS WHAT HAMAS WANTS.
30, 20, maybe even a dozen years ago leaders of all neighboring Arab countries would have mobilized their armies to bring the conflict to Israel's door from all sides but more telling now are what those same countries will not do in the coming days. i think you'll see, Hamas gets magnitudes less sympathy because no one but Hamas wants war.

Right, who cares if those rockets still only killed 16 Israelis...
If you are going to say things like there are no ratios in war then you should be the same type to think that all is fair and that suicide bombing civilians on a bus is the same as shooting a AGM-65 Maverick into an apartment block to take out one suspected bomb maker.
In the end both sides are human, equally worthless or equally priceless depending on how you view war.

who cares? people who would rather live in peace care. and as a fellow human i'm sure you can sympathize constantly living in fear is a fate, at least, similar to death.
your only argument is premised on the fact that Hamas isn't efficient enough in war to be acceptable to modern standards, right?

agree to an extent.

thats not really saying much, is it? it's an intelectually backwards statement unless you meant to put the in front of war as opposed to generalizing it.
war is human as much as peace is but one will invariably follow the other and will ALWAYS depend on how much human life is valued over death or the fear of death. just prior to this escalation only one side of "humans" value death over life - war over peace.

Nice job leaving out what Israel failed to do. Lift the blockade which is a collective punishment on all Palestinians and against international law. You get an A+.

Oh nice. Thanks for pointing out the support of the Egyptian dictatorship of Mubarak supported by Israel and United States in subjugating the Palestinians.

| CAIRO (Reuters) - Israeli raids on the Gaza Strip, which killed at least 208 people on Saturday, have raised the stakes for Egypt in maintaining a blockade on the territory in spite of strong opposition from the Egyptian public. |

point being is that all this sobbing you do over the Gaza blockade ignores the fact that a blockade relies completely upon the tacit agreement of other countries that border her. the same goes for Jordan and the West Bank.

If war is human, then what I said is truth. Both sides are equally worthless and equally priceless, and it is based on the perception of sides. From an unattached third party both are either worthless or priceless.
Being one of those, I'd go with worthless. Both sides do too much to inflame world passions and we would be better off with out them both.

Don't mind my "sobbing". Address the points. A blockade is an act of war. WTF are the Palestinians supposed to do? Accept their humiliation with a smile on their faces?

you obviously don't have a dog in this fight, so to speak, so what you think or what you have to say about this where people are just trying to live in peace is again, not saying much

Hamas' very existence is predicated on war and acts of war.
by your own logic Hamas should be firing rockets across the border into Egypt as well.
what are Palestinians supposed to do? reject war.

haha... you're totally taking the Hamas bait exactly as they want. If Canada or the U.S. or England or whoever was getting hit with rockets from a neighboring country, INDESCRIMINATLY dropping into civillian areas, what do you think would happen? So what if 200 people have been killed in one day... Israel is at least specifically targeting Hamas and being as surgical in nature as they can be; Hamas has been asking for this and is trying to get sympathy from all over the world, especially from naive fools like yourself, and play the victim. You think they Israel should count the exact number of rockets and send the exact same amount back "to be fair"? Think about it... if Canada launched about 200 rockets into Detroit, regardless of the number of people they killed, the U.S. would have the right to hit back as necessary.
This about sums it up... deal with it----> "Hamas made it clear last week that they wanted war. They announced the end of the so-called truce, although as the 16th paragraph in this report finally makes clear, Hamas and other affiliated groups had never stopped attacking Israel. They want to provoke a wider war and hope to get Egypt involved. The Egyptians opened the border to provide emergency medical care to the wounded and condemned the attack, but have not broken diplomatic relations with Israel yet over the attack.
The world should step aside and quit interfering in the war Hamas so desperately wants and will desperately lose if left to their own devices. As long as Hamas controls Gaza, a state of war exists, and cease-fires do nothing to advance peace, as this year has proven yet again. Tiresome calls for "restraint" don't work when one side is determined to have war. The best way to resolve this conflict is to allow Hamas to have its war and get utterly crushed by Israel or overthrown by Gazans to avoid that unavoidable conclusion.
Hamas insists on a war of annihilation and won't accept any other solution. Let them have it."
