Liquor stores/distributors specializing in rare spirits?

Are there any stores or distributors in the GTA, or even Ontario that deal with rare spirits? I've contacted a few, but it seems the stuff I really want they don't have, and the stuff they do have I need to order in packages.

or maybe someone can direct me to a local Canadian site? I've had really bad experience ordering expensive liquor overseas with customs. and going downs south is not a very good option--seeing as previous and recent trips have produced mediocre results at best.

Check out the LCBO on Yonge and Summerhill. They have a huge section devoted to vintages and rare spirits. I found a few things there that I have never seen in any other LCBO. Also, it might help if you tell us what exactly you are looking for.

+1

Google it and see if there is anywhere that would have it. Probably the best bet.

LCBO does not carry the bottles I'm looking for--in fact, they were the ones that directed me to their distributors, and they told me I can only purchase them in boxes.

I'm currently looking for:

Glenlivet 12 Year Old Unblended 1970's or 1980's
Glenlivet XXV
Glenlivet 1972 CC
Hennessy Paradis
a set of Hennessy Exclusive Collection XO Cognac Paradis
a set of Jack Daniel Prohibition Anniversary Limited Edition
and I'd love another set of JW Collection (the one with Green not Red label)
and not so rare, but still hard to find: a bottle of Everclear (190 proof) and a couple bottles of Captain Morgan Private Stock.

and some other single malt vintage bottles, but you get the idea.

how much money do you have to spend on booze?
i can think of many other more effective ways to spend your money.

edit: if you have a pharmacy license you can buy pure grain alcohol from the LCBO but almost nobody knows about this. i only know because my dad is a pharmacist. they will even deny it if you ask them (i've tried).

Well I have Everclear 150 proof and Bacardi 151 both 75%--but that's really interesting...I never knew you could do that at LCBO.

And I seldom drink the liquor I collect, only on very special occasions.

PM me w/ your more direct contact details if you're interested.

I'm currently putting together a multi-case order on harder to get scotches including 32yr old Blair Athol.

Take a trip to the UK, you can get there for $600 at the moment

Hotel would cost you a fortune though....

I know you said LCBO referred you elsewhere...but was this just a store employee or did you go through this channel?

http://lcbo.ca/programs_services/pr..._ordering.shtml

good luck! (and hopefully you have deep pockets, lol)

150 is weak... I bought this bottle in Pennsylvania last summer;

I'm going across the border for the weekend, and hope to find me another one or two.

Cruise some of the Polish Deli stores around T.O. and you can find Spirytus (95%). I know the polaks keep it behind counter

Yes I've contacted 4 agents directly and have tried the private route. In fact, I just came from the LCBO at summerhill, it seems literally impossible to persuade a supplier to ship 1 bottle alone--due to laboratory testing costs--so I've been advised to contact the distillery directly. Since I sure as hell cannot afford to pay for a entire box of vintage Glenlivet.

yeah the 190 is tricky to get, it's illegal in a lot of states including Michigan where I make frequent trips for liquor...among other things.

If I never have another bottle of Glenlivit, I shall die a happy man. It's really the barfy aftertaste that kills it for me.

We Czechs use it for making tall jars/bottles of alcoholic preserved fruits, yum!

I had no idea of its illegality. Had I known that I would have bought moar!

I'm at the Seneca Niagara Casino. I'm sure the natives can tell me wheere the good hooch is. (uh oh, I'm gonna get flammed for saying that, I was J/K!)

"Hey chief. You know where I can get some good firewater?"

Posted by Abercrombie on Jan-18-2009 04:42:

Couldn't find any firewater today

I settled for a 1.5L bottle of Vodka for $10.99. We are so being taxed out of our ass.

I'm with you on that. Love a nice Islay or Lowland myself. Port Ellen, Ardbeg, Inverleven... The Glenlivets I've tried just haven't floated my boat, but to each their own of course.

Posted by ExtremeWays on Jan-18-2009 22:48:

The Sumerhill location really is the best one I know of. I've had some excellent finds at the Davisville and Young location as well, including the distiller's special editions of Lagavulin.

They recently opened a huge new LCBO near my house (Burnhamthorpe Rd in Etobicoke) but the selection is pretty weak. They have literally hundreds of bottles of Smirnoff lining the shelves, and hardly a rare of special scotch in the entire store. I guess the suburbs are about quantity over quality, they keep all the good stuff downtown.
