1.24.09 CIRCUS welcomes JOHN O'CALLAGHAN!

John OCallaghan
Its taken John OCallaghan just 5 short years to outrun his next big thing tag and move over to the A-list fast-track. A masterful spinner, his unique blend of trance, coupled with an exacting, pin-point precise mixing style has seen him power up the DJ rankings. In the summer of 2008 the gifted 27 year old spun his first Radio 1 Essential Mix and, in the course of the year, was one of only 4 trance DJs to do so. In the 2007 Top 100 chart, John was marked out as the man to watch by no less than 5 DJs. 12 months later he duly delivered on their predictions, entering at No.60 on the 2008 countdown. Last year he picked up the Best Producer and Best DJ trophies at the Irish Dance Music Awards; decisively conquered the notoriously-competitive dance-testing ground of Ibiza and became the first Irishman to play Trance Energy. In 2009 he stands at the threshold of dance superstardom.

So the streak of free everything at Circus ends with JOC eh? :P
Posted by TSG on Jan-18-2009 21:13:
Don't know yet, still deciding. On the other hand.... Where's else can you get into a club on a Saturday night to see JOC and pay $5.00 for presale tickets?

The $1000 raffle is comprised of fivers.

Do they usually have door tickets too? and how much would those be?
Definitely want to hit this up =) I missed JOC at Monster, so really excited for this one.

fuck the free parking and all that, we want free carne asada quesadillas and or tacos. That could serious toss circus back into the mix of world class clubbing.

What you don't spend on the parking and all that, could go towards the carne asada quesadillas and/or tacos and you'll still have some extra $$!

The fine print:
Free parking only in the lot right next to Circus, or pay $10 in the other lot like I did last weekend.
Although the "free drink" picture shows a martini, if you have one of those it will be full price.
Only beer and soft drinks were free last Saturday.
I don't mind all of this too much since Vanguard charges $20 for $15 advertised parking, but why can't businesses just advertise the truth these days? I'll still go, but will be prepared to pay for some of the free things this time...
To give Circus credit where credit is due though, they let everyone who was in line by 11 p.m. in for free. The line moved kinda slow since they were back to taking email addresses, but at least it wasn't a front for making people miss the guestlist.

Yes, give credit where credit is due, indeed.
I don't know how they could possibly be making money doing these freebies, but I won't be complaining. Let's enjoy it while it lasts.
See you guys there. Hooray.

It was that same way the week before. I too had to pay. I'm hoping to arrive earlier this Saturday so I can catch a Free parking spot.

It was that same way the week before. Sorry if the pic shows a martini. I guess someone doesn't know their drinks. I'll contact them and ask if they can re-do the flyer minus the martini.

How is Circus making money giving away all these free promos week after week? Just curious

because they are doing it on their own with no promoters...what they earn from the door is just a bonus froom what they earn on drink sales...
but do remember that nikita was the one who did these bookings...hopefully the DJ quality stays the same...
the real test is the longetivity of this business model...you never know, once they capture a significant number of emails to populate their database, then you never know whats going to become different...

Yes, much as the music industry is finally realizing that they need to adopt a free or "close to free" business model in order to survive (which really isn't free since it's loaded with advertising), this would be a great idea for clubs. Out with the freakin $20 parking and $25 cover, and in with convenient free entry!
It might seem counter-intuitive at first, but which is better:
(A) A club that has high parking and cover with 50 people inside, or
(B) free parking and cover with a packed dance floor?
Since with 50 people inside everyone's too depressed to drink, the answer is B!

I'll see you guys on Saturday!

free cover almost always with guestlist sign ups
No need to park due to mass transit being so extensive
many open bar events, or "vodka tastings" etc
plus in and outs

booze sales. whats the mark-up, 500%? sell lots of booze. :-)
how much does a headliner of JOC's status run anyways?
i bet you could book $uperfox at Vanguard(he would pay the club to play) sell entrance at $10 and a lot of people would show up anyways. Once you have a brand and a big promoter in place, people will come. Circus has no big promoter, and no identity. I dont see much improving anytime soon.
Circus has turned to gimmicks in order to get people thru the door
free "drink" ticket, but its only soda or beer, why not just say FREE BEER ticket?
im surprised they dont just provide a Brita and a cup and say, here you go, here is your free drink!
free parking, but its gotta be the right lot and you have to show before it fills up. Why not just say, Lot has 50 spaces, so free parking for first 50 cars.
$1000 raffle? better check its $1000 US dollars, and not some sort of cancun wet t-shirt scam that promises $1000 and it turns out to be 1000 mexican pesos, I saw that happen once to a poor girl, she was pissed!
bottom line, an offer feels more like an offer when its genuine and without a catch. be straight up and honest and people will appreciate it, be deceiving and people will get pissed off.
id rather be promised NOTHING
than be promised something and then not receiving it.
