Looking for IT employment and agencies in MTL
Hello all,
First off, I apologise for the lengthy post.
After spending most of my professional career (and life) in Toronto, I have decided to attempt a move to the beautiful city of Montreal. Having been there, both in a personal and professional context many times over the last years, I am in love with the city, the people, and the culture. I am looking to hopefully find something to get my foot in the door, and am appealing to this community for any assistance you all may be able to provide.
I am a young professional, and have worked in IT for over 7 years, being involved in projects of various degrees of scope and complexity. Academically, I have a bachelors of science degree, majoring in computer science, so I am fairly well versed in many aspects of this field. My French is at a basic conversational level, but I am proactively taking steps to better this. Truth be told, learning the language is one of the bigger motivators for trying to make it out there.
Having said all this, I am appealing to all of you for help; I would like to start applying to any positions that anyone may know of, this week. Further, if there are headhunter/contracting/placement agencies of any kind, I would appreciate their names, so that I can explore this venue.
Basically, I am asking for help in regards to where I look for employment?
Thank you for any help you may be able to provide.

Hi zokissima,
The reason you choosed MTL over TO really interrest me.
I will certainly soon get my Canadian permanent residency ,I work in IT as well and will have to choose between the 2 cities.
People here told me TO has better wages, weather and taxes.
Would be great if you could give me your opinion considering that I'm French.
Thanks a lot

I think CGI is looking for tech support people, its on the phone, so obviously not everyone... the salary is meh, around 14-15$... but good enough to pay the bills and get thru these harsh times.

| Originally posted by malek In the IT field, wages are a bit higher 10-15% than in Montreal, cost of living is also more expensive, especially housing (rents and ownership). Taxes are lower for single people in Ontario, families with kids are better served in Quebec with all the perks has like 7$ daycare for kids, longer parenting leaves, generous families allowance. a 60,000$ salary in Ontario, your bi-weekly check comes to $1,595.83, in Qubec to $1,444.88. Hopes this help. |

Thanks for all the replies guys. lol I will spread my resume out to wherever it will get to, but personally am not averse to helpdesk positions. The economic climate is what it is, and it is not neccessarily the right time for me to be too picky.
For the individual that asked why Montreal instead of Toronto? Well, I currently live, and am employed in Toronto. I really do not have any financial reasons for moving to Montreal. Maybe it is complacency of living in TO, maybe it is the wish to learn the language in a way that I could never do here, but Montreal has always held an appeal to me, and that is why I've decided to give it a go.
Feel free to use me as a reference for Hewlett Packard in the west island, 100%.
My brother got his start at Insight Canada before he became Director of Canadian Operations for a company that paid him to move to the US with a 6 figure income. Their office is in TMR near l'Hippodrome, < 1km from where I used to live. Check there as well is sales is fine with you.
