Paul van Dyk truly expresses his feelings for Trance Music

The first 2:20 is about the topic of the thread. The second half talks about his band and his upcoming material/album on Vandit.

Unhappy

why would pvd diss trance muzik than say the best guys coming up are jon o gallahan, rank 1 etc.. who happen to be exclusively tranz ? i thinks pvd is lozing his mindz

Posted by BiG MiKE on Mar-16-2009 16:09:

They haven't really been making cheesy Vocal Trance. I think that's what got PvD upset in the first place. Cheesy, Vocal Trance has been killing the scene in his eyes. Kind of ironic as his last album had some cheesy vocals in it ;o Diggity Diggity traa la la

oh...and he's not guilty of making it himself? Quite a contradiction, he's looking somewhere else to point fingers.

Cheesy trance shit lmao.

2 solid quotes...

"Trance is a great word but its image has been hurt over the past years due to so called trance tracks hitting the charts, then every cheesy song has been called trance. For me real electronic trance is music that is emotional and in that respect I would class my music as trance, but you can call it what you want."
-Andy Moor

In all honesty, most trance is shite. 95% of the promos I receive are just crap, totally unplayable, generic production and derivative melodies youve heard a thousand times before. They might be alright for 16 year old kids who have just graduated up from Lasgo, but not for anyone with at least partially developed taste.-Gareth Emery

if pvd didn't support artists who produce a lot of cheesey vocal trance themselves, i'd respect him saying that a bit more. it's not like his most recent productions have been completely cheese-free either

Posted by hellosam on Mar-16-2009 17:40:

this coming from a man who consistantly plays Big Sky at his gigs (and fucks up the levels and brings down vocals so the crowd can sing- only to find out that they dont WANT TO SING)

and we wont even go into the fact that he plays songs multiple times in sets...good or not we only need to hear them once

PVD made the cheesiest of cheesy vocals, and played them non stop, then has the nerve to slam it? This is textbook irony. He shouldn't be mad at anyone but himself for destroying the music he once loved for lots of money.

+1

(although there are a lot of PvD productions i really love)

In addition, why is it these HUGE Numero Uno Djs can sit back and complain that other people are ruining music? DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!! youre so big and so classic and so talented- then use that. Its not like youre mr. no one knows my name and I play at college weekends. Negativity as an opinion thrown around like that does nothing....

What are you talking about? "Crush" is one of the most street-credible trance tracks of all time.

I love and will always love Paul as a DJ but he's a bit off his rocker. I do agree with his points though.

I also agree with him too! But he's pointing the blame at others when he shouldn't be.
Time to bust out my cheese grater on this fool!
And notice how he insists on not being classified as a trance DJ? Really then, what would you consider yourself Paul? And Rank 1 isn't trance? Am I missing something? Watching this video makes me feel like im taking Crazy pills!

Just to get the point across.

trenz nonzenz

Posted by Ali Mahmud on Mar-17-2009 00:18:

I kind of agree with him, because there are a lot of tracks with horrible vocals being released. I think vocals should be used as an instrument, not just singing words. The vocalist must add to the mood of the song. Just the other day I was browsing through tracks, and there were so many bad vocals, I couldn't believe it, but it's not only trance, it's all genres.

Also I think PVD is forgetting his track "Talk in Grey", I think that's what it's called. That is probably one of the worst tracks ever made. PVD is crazy, but still one of the best DJs and Producers.

jon o'bir...doesnt activa produce all of his stuff?

so do we need a new term for 'the good stuff' now?

edit: hahaha yea hearing talk in grey at central park and at wmc live was even funnier

Posted by coolestrl on Mar-17-2009 03:27:

Posted by Neo95gt on Mar-17-2009 03:37:

when this man wants to throw down - he does.

145+ bpm is the way to my heart.

i didn't see the vid yet cuz i am on my phone but the worst thing he has done in my eyes - starting to sign crap to a crappy label called vandit digital.

honestly - there are AT MOST - 4 songs I like from that catalog. Only 2 come to mind atm.

edit - lol@ really shit

Most of those tunes have Dyk Pikes...

Posted by glittergirl on Mar-18-2009 00:16:

i dont care how crazy he gets, he's still sexy as hell.

(pretty fucking crazy though. not a trance dj. okkkkkkkkkkkk)

Everyone seems to be confused. He said that when they did it in the 90's it was innovative and had a deeper feel to it, which is true. However, every song played by armin or above and beyond in the past 6 months has been complete garbage. They all sound the same. Even markus' toronto 09 compliation all fucking sounds the same with maybe 2 songs that stand out. It lakcs a deep kick, it has no rhytm, and has a generic melody, daniel kandi being the epitome of this. I fucking hate it. PvD is 100% right. And his last album is not fucking trance, it has vocals, but its nowhere near being trance so stop calling it that.
Trance is dead. Anything Anjuna-related began the downfall and its now complete.
