Dancing Dude VIDEO: Body English

So they asked me to come over and video. So I did. The crowd was pretty energetic, but it was a Z103.5 live to air. Oh man I wasn't diggin the music at all. They were even playing way back play back tunes after 1:30am. I ran away about 2 or so. So what I did was put up my own tune and just did the video more like a music video.

If anyone sees faults, I'd appreciate suggestions on how I can improve as this is the first time I've done a video like this.

Shit dude. How did you manage to not freak out on people amidst that sea of wankery?

Not that it would be my kind of place anyway, but goddamn man, they should pack that place to the rafters, put a water tight seal around it, & flood the fucker.

The only problem with using your own music is that it gives a false impression of what kind of night it was.

What makes you think your taste in music is so great? That song was terrible. Pick something that at least sounds fun. Also, your video is almost six minutes long when youve really only got about a 1:30 of footage. I think you should be doing a lot more editing. I don't need to see the same whore dancing for 30 seconds. Give me a couple seconds of her and quickly move on to the next.

True... I thought of that. The club liked the tune I picked so it can't be that bad. The prob was that there wasn't any long segments of recording like I do with Guv videos. At most they are about a min or two except for a couple of segments like the girls dancing around the poles. The video would have sound like a DJ Danny D mix with each tune only having about 15 secs, which I'm not used too. It would have sounded scrambled. To a professional editor or a DJ the mixing would have been easy.

This IS my first video of this type... I gotta lot to learn. It's constructive criticism I'm after.

I think your video work is very well done, it had my attention throughout (which is rare these days)... However, I despised your song choice lol

If the club paid you, it may make more sense to choose a song of the same format to that of which was played on said evening... and in saying that, if they did pay you it may also be in your favour to not really comment negatively on the night either... (if they didn't pay you, then ya fuck it, do/say what you want lol)

They didn't pay me. For me it was more the experience I wanted. Chinamon and Shaya already know that when the lights come on, the ppl ham it up for the camera. That's what I was after. Getting in the comfort zone to approcah ppl and let them do what they want in front of the video will help me in future vids. Chinamon and Shaya are accustomed to this but I'm not. I'm always distant and concentrating on the DJ's and NOT the ppl, which is what I want to change. It appears ppl are pretty fun when the camera's rolling!

As for the club itself, I was pretty surprised with the energy in it... and NOT being downtown. The layout and feel caught me off guard since it was a more local club. I've been partying too much downtown it seems.

Certainly not this time.

I didn't realize ppl and posts were so closely scrutinized. I find I keep to myself for the most part, whereas others are eager to jump into everything possible with name calling and being extremely judgmental. I'd think those are the attention whores you speak of.

I love the cheap dirty speaker whores in the video. Although you really need more, and more action shots of them to really sell the video, thus selling the club.

Well this is true. I'm not accustomed to the "in your face" approach with the public. You can see this clearly in every one of my other vids. I appreciated getting a taste of crowd interaction, even if the video itself isn't stellar. One step at a time I guess. :)

i agree with this comment...i stopped watching after that girl in the pink top was on for too long followed by that girl in black fishnets who couldn't dance but was handling her hair and blowing kisses like it was her job.

i think terry offered good advice, albeit very insultingly.

Posted by Prometheus Xex on Mar-17-2009 23:37:

Personally I wanted to make the video about 2 or maybe 2 and a half minutes, but the person that invited me wanted it longer... which is what I've done. Ya, I'll agree that the girls might be a bit long, they were even longer so I'm glad I cut them back from what they were.

This place used to rock when it was 107, you're about 5 years too late. you could have caught me in my prime, getting into a fight, bar brawl breaking out and closing the whole place down. only for the fight to turn into a 50 on 50 outside on eglington ave W.

great times... great times...

I would say almost ten years too late. It was at its best for Manzone and Strong on Thursdays. Does anybody remember what that party was called? It was the best. Imagine the Drink when it was good except on a thursday in Mississauga. All kinds of great drugs and hot broads going around. Those were good times.

Anyone else amused by the 2-stepping gogo dancers? LOL we're spoiled in our clubs, seriously.

Prometheus, Terry gave some good advice even if it was a tad rough around the edges. I'll give you my take, may seem a bit nitpicky, but meh, you want some constructive advice from the masses, I'll give you some. Nothing that hasn't actually already been mentioned, but I'll expand with my actual views on each criticism.

You don't need more than 5-10 seconds of any individual dancer scene. An example of a scene that lasted way too long was from 56 seconds to 1:19. We got the point after the timer hit 1:00, there were two girls who couldn't dance, YAY. Another example of shots that lasted too long is from 1:50-2:20, 30 seconds is way too long to show people with poor dancing skills as the main focal point of your shot. An exception could be made for people with outstanding dance talents I suppose, or just going so crazy and wild it's entertaining. But for dancers like those, ass-shaking two-steppers, for the most part, you get the point after a few seconds (even 10 seconds is pushing it) "Yes, great, the girl is dancing, next shot please".

Spending more than 2 seconds TOPS on any of those group-posing shots was a bit of a waste of time too, although the longest group-pose was only around 6 seconds, so you didn't take it too far. Again, we get it, they posed, next shot please. A good idea might be to string a bunch of group shots together at no more than a second each to fill the time. Instead of wasting 10 seconds on two groups of people, string 10 groups together with really quick 'glimpses' instead of making us watch them get ready and make their pose, use the shot of the final pose for half a second and BLAM, next!

I think you had the right idea with your own personal desire to keep the video around 2:30. 6 minutes for a video of that type, to cover a club with ONE ROOM, IS really long.

Finally, I agree that using music of the same style they were playing at the event would have been a better choice. It doesn't matter what YOUR personal taste in music is, people watching a video of a club they're interested in going to are also going to want a taste of the style of music that will be played.

Now that's what I'm talking about. Your criticism was clear and concise. I appreciate the majority of advices ppl have offered. Many times your not aware your doing something wrong until it's made evident, so that you can try to desist from continuing the wrongs. This week I was invited (for money I may add) to both The Docks and Circa. As I studied other videos from ppl that are also used by my contact for such events, I'm reminded that I've got some way to go (should I choose) before I can charge for these type of vids and turned them down. Practice make perfect and maybe I'll just fool around with more of these short videos before considering accepting those paid invitations.
