Did the police shut down any of your events?

I have never seen anything like this year. I was at the Howells Dig Deeper label release party on Palm Island at it got shut down an hour early at 8 pm due to sound. Thankfully Danny was finished already.

Then Friday at the Dirtybird party they first shut down the upstairs 3 hours early due to noise complaints and had to switch up the downstairs line up to get everyone in. Then at 10 pm right before Claude was going to go on from 10-12 they shut down the entire party.

Saturday night at Vagabond they shut down the outside due to noise complaints. Thankfully John played until 7 am inside =)

Then I read that Lawler was shut down at 4 am at Nocturnal early Sunday morning.

What the hell was going on? It was WMC week! Did anyone else attend parties that were shut down?

I was at the Chelsea Hotel on Tuesday night and they shut down the DJ and gave him a ticket. His name was Antonio and was playing some sick minimal.

One of the days at Minimal Is Maximal we got a noise violation but the party continued.

I noticed 2 instances.

First, Steve Angello stated, "they are going to have to put hands cuffs on me to stop playin"...but some dick technician/hotel worker unpulled the plug to the speaker so he can't play...they plugged it back in to announce some shit on the mic.

Second, I saw firefighters outside of Shine/Sander Kleinenberg Sunday night making sure that they do close and get everyone out @ 5.

Just Republicans being Republicans enforcing "rules"

Florida is a Republican state right? Or is it a swing state? We all know we can blame Bush getting into office in the first place right? If it was up to the country as a whole, Gore would've been the president 8 years ago.

Lets not make this a political thing, the state can be considered a swing state due to the close standings of the last election.

And i am sure that alot of people feel the same when i say:

1. leave politics out of WMC
2. Dont speak of politics without data to back it up.

Lastly, Im sorry to hear about the shut downs, i would expect as the economy tanks even more, it will cause more rules and regulations to come through washington. Hopefully this will not become a more common occurance. I Hope the UMF doesnt get shut down..... will make 50k+ people rather angry.

Doesn't it seem like police shut down more parties in South Beach then from downtown area? Maybe the curfew?

Posted by Puzzle on Apr-03-2009 13:18:

I left Miami last year, and while i was there it seemed as if there was alot of residential areas near washington. I could be wrong, but you can always count on the complaint of one person leading to the issues affecting multiple others..... I wasnt aware of a curfew law... whats that about?

Posted by bigsnail on Apr-03-2009 13:20:

nope. all the events i attended went pretty smooth.

Two years ago they shut down Juciy Beach for 3hrs at midnight due to over-crowding. That SUCKED and I vowed never to go back there. None of the parties I went to this year got shut down but the Rooftop Ruckus with Desyn Maisello at the Bentley (5th/Ocean) had noticablly low volume. That was really the only place I noticed it.

The noise police turned Hallucienda down for a bit. There was some symphony going on close by. It was turned back up when the symphony was over.

It was one of those memorable WMC moments...listening to Burridge pull off a No Bass Set will be one for the books.

Nope, all my parties were safe

AM Only was shut down an hour early, right before Loco Dice vs. Marco Corola came on . There was a rumor that the club manager was arrested.

Also Circo Loco

There has been alot of rivalry between Space and Nocturnal for a few months now so there isnt a doubt in my mind something shady was planned with that one. Remember alot of the small venues and parties took place in residential areas and it only takes one winer. Thankfully all the parties I went to were amazing. I am surprised Karu & Y shut down at all they are in the most amaming location in all of Miami. No one around there.

I woulda been pissed if Nocturnal shut down Space during PVD/Morillo night!

Compost vs Teardrop party @ Electric Pickle was shut down around 3am on Friday night.

they were pretty chill about it. music went off but people still mingled around and the girl working the door came around and asked for our names so we could be put on the free guestlist for the next night. we eventually took off around 3:30, not sure what happened after that. i know the Get Lost afterparty was scheduled for Sat morning and i'm pretty sure that still happened but i heard they opened later than scheduled.

Calm it down!

I just made a lil comment which was meant to be a joke/small talk. I agree politics & religion have no place on TA, so you Bill O'Reilly fans can relax! I don't blame Bush on Florida. (I'm sure it was his bro that got him in)

I was at a few places where it was mentioned, because of being close to capacity, but nothing happened. I don't think anything will top 2006 though, that was the year that everywhere you turned a club was being shut down/closed down for being too full.

Yes, the police realize what week it is but do you remember Great White and the big fire?

How come people always try to ruin the fun...?

Posted by epdarks on Apr-03-2009 21:56:

The worst part is there are former clubbers who bitch and moan to the city/state about illegal parties because they are doing their parties legally. This scene isn't big enough to back stab fellow promoters. You can thank HonkyTonkMan on TNL...

Posted by raven848 on Apr-04-2009 01:13:

yeah and in 06 I was driving from club to club..... not the best thing to kick people out of a club at 3am and they're like, oh lets just drive to another club. Learned my lesson though.... lol

Yeah, that guy is a douche of the highest order. Can you post a picture of him so anyone who had their night cut short at circoloco can thank him with a severe beating if they spot him out.

Yea they literally yanked the plug @ the Lights Out party @ nocturnal.

4am rolled around. Security/Cops rolled in and yanked the plug in the middle of the set. Lawler got on the mic and bitched about the police, it was pretty funny. I wonder what the JP crowd did?

Posted by bobba lou on Apr-04-2009 17:51:

time to create parking lots in that area.
