Making a remix pack of my song available?
Hey guys/gals,
Avonlea and I just finished up a vocal trance tune that is probably too old-school to get signed, so we're thinking about making a remix pack available for anybody interested in remixing it. I know a lot of you get involved in remix competitions, etc., so I'm just looking for some general guidance. My plan to was to put a remix pack including the vocal .wav tracks, MIDI files of the main instruments (e.g., bass, leads, pads), and general track info (e.g., original tempo, key) on my server for download and announce it on a few EDM forums.
I'm not looking for this to be a "competition" per se, just an exhibition of people's talents and interpretations. But, people will obviously be free to post their version on forums for feedback. I see a lot of posts and get PMs/emails from a lot people looking for vocal tracks to remix, so this is our small way of trying to help out there.
But, I'll also admit that this is as much for self-promotion as it is for hearing other people's interpretation of the song, so I want to be sure that people credit it appropriately. Any concerns there, or are most people pretty good about that sort of thing in your experience?
My plan is to have everyone send me a copy of their final version and I'll host them on my server and make a dedicated mp3 player available for all the versions.
How does this sound? Any other other considerations, pitfalls, etc. that I may be overlooking? Thanks!
Yes, I know that i could use some vocals to practice on.
So id say bring it on.
I'm down to remix !
I'll get the remix pack together over the next few days. In the meantime, you can hear the original song at:

But, please note that I'm NOT looking for comments on the song in this thread, so please keep this thread on topic. Thanks!
Awesome i wanted to remix this tune!
It would be my pleasure, i've learned a lot from your posts here, and i would really love to bring some vocals to my currently extremely techy productions. Or i may just go back to my uplifting discover style roots with it. Anyway thanks in advance for the opportunity!
I'm interested. I don't get to work with vocals too often. I'm a prog head, so it would be a proggy house or trance remix. I think you should take the 4 best remixes and get them signed. Olympik records might be interested, hit Stephen up. Let any money made go to charity.

If you want, I can give it a shot to
damn!
i don't care how old school it sounds. this track is really nice.
good good work.
can't wait for the remix pack
Edit: Nvm, don't think i can make a remix that can par up to your original. haha. its been on repeat or some time now :P
i'm always up for remixing as well, always great fun, and even more up for it if it's got some nice vocals
Hey, I'm in.
Hey, I'd like to try too
Your vocals are always class mate. I'd definately be interested in chopping one of your tracks into tiny pieces. In a pleasurable way of course
Yeah sounds good, I've just finished installing Vista on mine so i need to test it out with all my vst's and see if they work properly so this is a good a chance as any.
I'm in.
Wow! Glad to see such an overwhelming positive response. Hopefully, I'll have the remix pack ready to go this evening. This should be fun.
BTW, thanks for all the comments! I can't wait to hear what all you talented folks can do with this!
Well actually thanks for posting your song too mate, It's good to get a crack at vocals. I'm going to listen to the song just now.
I'd like to try a remix for this one!
really nice track, I don't know why you said that this couldn't be signed
the vocals are very very good really nice voice! congrats to the singer.
where and when could we have the remix pack?
cheers!
Yeah, nice vocals by Avonlea Montague. The girl can sing. Congrads to you for finding her. The song is very well done. I'm not into hard dance, but I can dig it. Nice chord progression and vocal melody lines. Might be a bit too major key for me, but I'll deal with it.
I agree it is probably a good idea to offer midis instead of samples. A few samples can't hurt though. All I need is the vocal track wave file, and the full song.
Thanks for the invite, Dave. Please count me in.
Great track!
Bestest, Paul
I'd love to get in on this! Please hook me up - be great to work on one of your tracks Cryo!
Hey guys - Talked to Cryo. Sounds like a solid idea to me. Waiting to hear back from him then we'll handle the details on how we release and promote the tracks, licensing situation, etc if everything materializes.
With it being released by my label, it will be promoted like any other track I handle. (Top DJs and large companies)
I also send out physical packages of published CDs to the "top jocks" (9 people) every 2 months so they get the music up to 10 weeks sooner than the digital promotional depending on the release date. (8 total releases + 1 CD with extra material with each package - We have one release every Tuesday.)
I will add any additional material to the extra material CD for the winners if requested. (Demos, Bootlegs, etc)
I'm trying to think up some other good ideas but nothing is clicking. I know some labels will do the promo list thing for a certain period, but I am very anal about my self compiled promo list so it is off limits. As artists, you know why. If anybody has any ideas for compensation for the winners let me know. With resources so scarce these days in the business we have to be creative and competitive. I joke that EDM these days is more competitive than military advancements during the cold war.
Working with Vocals is always a plus since, I'm a noob I don't get many of them to work with lol
yeah man sounds like a good idea. you have lots of tracks, which were you thinking of making a remix pack for?
