Roll Call: High Park Promise Ambient Cherry Blossom event - Sun 3rd

It's here!

this Sunday May 3rd, 3 til 9pm

promise ambient cherry blossom party in high park

The Cherry Blossoms are out in High Park! And our trees our turning 50!

We are excited that our time has come again this year to bring out a nice ambient soundsystem to the grove of Cherry trees that blossom just a few days each year. It`s been a long hard winter for us all and this event marks the first time of the year that we all get outside together. So we invite you to enjoy a really nice day of sun on the Cherry Blossom hillside in High Park. Its a great little grove of the trees in High Park, overlooking Grenadier pond and sweet to enjoy with music. Every year in this season the cherry trees come into amazing full bloom just for a few sweet days and then they all blow away.

This year is extra special because our cherry trees are turning 50 this year. All the trees along the hillside were planted in 1959 50 years ago. Thanks to Toru-Hagiwara, then the Japanese ambassador to Canada for donating them to us! Also, there is a special sale of plants that are native to Toronto in the greenhouse. More details at http://www.highpark.org/

There is a venerable tradition of cherry blossom festivals - in San Francisco, Washington and most notably in Japan where there are hundreds of them between January and June. See:
http://gojapan.about.com/cs/cherryb...urafestival.htm
http://japanese.about.com/library/weekly/aa031900.htm

Our dj friends will be playing ambient and chill music thats nicely suited for absorbing the tranquility and beauty of the spot. So far we feature:

Aia uplifting electroambient
Rollin` Cash special ambient set
Richard Windeyer ambient compositions

What to expect:
The day calls for a nice warm temperature and lots of sun but come very prepared. The evenings get really cool and even if you just plan to come by for a short visit, you may get swept up and stay til the end. So come prepared. Bring blankets, sleeping bags, chairs, hammocks. Tuck away a hat, sweater, gloves and a thermos of tea to keep yourselves warm. Bring a nice bit of a picnic.
This is one of our favourite events and last year we had record numbers of people. Sitting back on a hillside full of cherry blossoms with several hundred friends is really
an amazing experience.

Dont expect deep dancefloor music, were focused on beatless ambient music for this occasion. Do yourself the favour of coming down nice and early, nothing beats the feeling of sun hitting your face through those flowers as the day slips by.

Location:
South west side of the park, just west of the restaurant (lots of parking).
Walk towards the pond and were right there on the hillside.

Contact:

Irving 416 902 1740

Thanks to Blaine (blankfoto) for the generator, Justin (alienInFlux) for the sound system and our secret friend L.M. In high park for tipping us off on the progress of the cherry blossoms each year.

just came back from high park and the cherry blossoms are really amazing. on a beautiful sunny day, nothing beats laying on some green grass admiring nature and having some chillout in the background.

I'm a little confused on how to get there. So if you are on Queensway, do you take Colbourne Lodge Road to the parking place, then head West towards the pond?

Is that the general area?

That's what I gather.

I'll be hitting this up for sure.

the trees are all along this path, right beside a nice hilly area.

^^ You were there? I thought I saw somebody who looked like you, but I couldn't decide if i was seeing properly or not, lol

I had an absolutely great time. The sun was out, so were lots of families, dogs, friends, people in general. The 'music' was trippy, and fit pretty well, and I did not hear anybody complain about it (well only a TA ).

When we came back from getting some grub, I heard them play Solarstone's Chill out Euphoria (link ), which was really neat to here in that setting.

The Cherry blossoms them selves were really nice, but the whole day, and atmosphere was perfect. I think this is going to be the summer of the picnic for me!
