Review: Toronto Freedom Festival (05/02/2009)

My first time going to the Freedom Festival and I must say I was quite impressed at the great turnout and weather I can't really complain about (compared to last year). It really felt like I had stepped back into WEMF from last summer.

Also impressive was the amount of food vendors.. but it made complete sense when you thought about it. I bet most of them ran out of food towards of the end of the day.

Solid tunes at the BPM stage as well. The stench that ensued after everyone was told to light up for 4:20 was epic

Definitely going back next year

So...I'm curious...was the RCMP or Metro Police there?

Posted by Skipper on May-03-2009 16:18:

I walked by this yesterday and thought it was kinda pathetic. The whole parade just reemphasizes all the stereotypes about pot heads....Congrats for putting your laziness and insatiable munchies on display for all of Toronto to see.

I also saw a LOT of teenagers, which was more sad than anything else.

It's def something every pothead should go to once, but you'll prolly never want to go back after that. There's way too many teens as mentioned and alot of people drinking, using other drugs. Not only that, about 10% of the people have any interest in the movement for legalization and the rest are simply there to get fucked up (which you can do anywhere else in a peaceful, less crowded environment).

Posted by nifty narcotix on May-03-2009 16:46:

Thinking the same thing.

The movement is good, and the music was great, but there was too many whacked out people totally missing the point.

Also who the fuck brings a kid in a stroller to something like this? I saw at least 3. Whack

Police should crack down on this.

No parents should.

Police should be doing important things.

Why on teenagers vs anyone else? there's no legal age limit on pot in this country.

Posted by Cribby on May-03-2009 20:04:

This year has been the least enjoyable for me. Music is always good, but I just can't deal with the levels of strange anymore... it's too much! And agree with the teen comments.

Posted by chinamon on May-03-2009 20:13:

some of you complain about teenagers smoking pot but im pretty sure most of you started when you were in high school.

the pot calling the kettle black.....

and for those that think the parents should do something about it, well, im pretty sure the parents have no idea since the kids are most likely doing it behind the parents back.

Obviously most don't know, that's the difference between a good parent and a bad parent. Parents who have a clue will be able to tell whats really going on in the kids lives.

I think all of you complaining about teenagers is just a sign of you getting old really....hahahahahha.....sorry that it bothers you all so much....you can't be young forever...deal with it.

Does it really shock all of you that teenagers are smoking pot? Christ, that's all everybody did when I was in high school...there's not much else to do....these kids can't go to bars or anything....it's either drink in a park....or smoke pot in a park.

I wish they had DJs at Windsor's Freedom Festival

im pretty sure most parents on the planet dont know what "bad" stuff their kids do. so most of the world's parents are bad? it is normal for kids to keep secrets from their parents, plain and simple. its just that times have changed from when we were kids and we have to accept that. times were different when our parents were kids. everything evolves and we just have to accept it.

Posted by Skipper on May-03-2009 21:24:

I actually never smoked pot in my teens...I didn't try cigarettes either. Smoking in general never really struck a chord with me I guess.

The reason why I found it sad is because I understood the march to be initially for decriminalizing marijuana, and from what I saw, it's basically about pot heads giving the finger to the PO, giggling at squirrels and eating donuts.

I think its pretty easy to tell if your kid becomes a "pothead".

Not that I care, but definitely not the police's responsibility.

i agree that it is not the police's responsibility but there is only so much a parent can do. in my opinon, the role of a parent is to GUIDE their child.. not command them if they are teenagers. some teens will always stray no matter how much guidance they are given. that is not the parent's fault. everyone is their own person and can make their own decisions.
