Review: Nic Fanciulli - TIL- May 8th 2009
Safe to say that Nic exceeded my expectations last night. Seeing "Global Underground" promoted through the club, and being a huge fan of the label, I had a good feeling that this would be a musically genious night.
KOS's opening set for Nic brought the room to a frenzy getting ready for him to take over the decks...But I was there for Fanciulli so my anticipation left me unfocused on his set...
Fanciulli prog came back.
I do love his techy style from Family Day in February...but to hear him drop some of the driving tracks he laid down last night was a pure treat to my ears. I couldn't tolerate the dance floor very often, so spent some time just taking in the tunes from the sidelines.
Ending at 4 was unexpected, however, when realizing the lack in the number of people that were actually left I understood. Such a shame as Nic's set was spot on from beginning to end... If more people were around, I'm sure he would have carried on a little longer....
Summary: Nic masterly represented the GU label....
I have been waiting all day for this thread what took so long ....
ok.... back to "Excursions in the Expanded Field" FML
thanks for the review. We just got to the loft. It's small and sexy and we can feel we are in for a real treat. We just found out that kos will be spinning too. This is definitely an amazing experience.
what the hell? KOS played too?
The Beginning and The Swarm... did they get played?
I had a great time last night at TIL, most likely due to a solid party crew that i was hanging out with. The crowd was pretty drunk and pushy which was annoying, but nothing terrible. The music was pretty good. I enjoyed KOS's opener, aside from two "freezes" in the mix that i heard. Nic Fanciulli came on very strong but lost my interest after the first hour.
nic rocks....
he's always on point and never disapoints.
big tune, mark broom - meltin pot.
Wow, Nic just completely ripped apart Produkt Loft. Absolutely incredible set. I'm still laughing in disbelief that I finally got to hear energy flash in a club. The original mix too. Wow. Just...like...yeah...fuck...lol
it was gooooood
surprised it ended @ 4:00 ... it still seemed like there were enough people there when we left @ around 3:30
fav tune of the night for me = that funky almost discoey tune he played right b4 the Lawler mix of Koma Koma.
was awesome
disappointed i missed this.
no one else in my group wanted to go and we ended up at footwork.
very annoying to be the only one in the group who enjoys good tech and prog.

As some of you may or may not be aware, beatportal has been following Fanculli on his GU tour..Here is the entry for Toronto..

| Nic Fanciulli [a] opens the heavy dark wood door of room 1511 in Torontos Pantages hotel. Ugh, you woke me up, he grunts, stroking his stomach. Its 12.59am. Nics DJ set starts in one minute and hes still in his white boxer shorts. Luckily, Nics touring partner KOS is already at the venue This Is London, holding the fortified booth. Nic jumps into a steamy bathroom as some coffee brews. We had landed in Toronto three hours earlier, but we are still in Chicago. It had been a long night, and despite our best intentions we had found ourselves at 9am wandering the rush-hour clogged streets in search of our hotel having celebrated a successful start to the tour at an intimate afterparty. Nic glugs down the worst cup of coffee of his life, grabs his laptop, jumps into the elevator, and slides into the awaiting black leather seats of a Lincoln limousine outside. The womb-like interior and the comfort it brings prompts a conversation about how brilliant it would be if somebody invented a sleeping bag or blanket that you could walk the streets in. Nic swears one already exists (it does, introducing the Snuggie.) The car hurtles through the swirling yellow streets of Torontos Queen Street district. Young people, drinks, and laughter spill out onto the sidewalks, and through the limos tinted windows the world reels like a sepia-tinted movie. We pull up to a black door with four security guards outside. There is no queue which is never a good sign, but it turns out that this is actually the back door to the club as the front is a bottleneck. Nic is greeted by the promoter Jose Rodriguez, a short bald man with a grinning beard. He opens the door and immediately the security guards form a protective scrum around Nic and walk him inside like a boxer on his way to the ring. Nics Eye of the Tiger turns out to be a driving wobbly house cut. |

| Originally posted by chinamon the thing with TIL is people all seem to leave within the same 45-60 minute time frame. when we closed it was pretty dead with maybe 10-15 people left. nic played an encore track and that was the end of it. i would've loved to see him play longer. there were so many people outside waiting to get in that we ended up opening the second floor. it was a great night. |
Agreed with everything you said Knox.. don't need to write much of a review.
Nic was splendid! Exceeded expectations. First track that he dropped made my head spin. He also played this in WMC.. need an ID! One of his best sets for sure.
Thx for bringing the prog back Nic <3

I liked Nic at the beginning but then he lost me.
