Opera to be demolished?!

Can someone confirm this?

It seems that our fine city of Montreal wants to clean up this corner of the city by demolishing the whole block... including:

quote:

- Caf Clopatre (culture alternative : SPASM, Cabarets Bio-dgradables, Kinos, Total Crap, etc.)

I know many of you don't like the place because there's no mnml, it's still our biggest club and hosts regulary edm events.

holy crap thats crazy if its true.

That corner is a dump, thank god they cleaned that awful dirty sex building on the South-East corner.

With the new Quartier des Spectacles, the new club soda and SAT, that place can finally become a very nice part of Montreal and a real step forward for culture of Montreal. Way more important than a club or a strip joint.

So be it.

Those places will give their places to "la rue du commerce quitable"... which will turn what remains of the red light to an asepticized borefest.

I'm always for refreshing decrepit neighbourhoods, but this is more than just old brick vs new cement. Its going against the essence of that neighbourhood and removing a sector of this city's nightlife.

Louis: all over the news:

Yeah, I saw these articles in La Presse saturday Edition. However it is not clear if they will start demolish the buildings starting from Caf Cleopatre or from the corner

I would be really surprised that they order Opera's demolition since the club is also a part of the Quartier des Spectacles.

Posted by malek on May-19-2009 23:43:

I keep reading that everything from Ste-Catherine to le Monument national will be demolished.

Posted by djlemeir on May-20-2009 00:09:

i think ill be sadder over the demolition of cleoptra than opera

Posted by malek on May-20-2009 01:44:

La frite dore, Montral Pool Room is going away too... actually they are already closed now

Posted by zeKsg on May-20-2009 01:53:

Oh no, the BIG DISCO BALL @ Opera... NO!!!!

Posted by X-Cube on May-20-2009 02:05:

That's a big news! Wow!

Posted by Vermz on May-20-2009 04:30:

I read the news last weekend but I've never seen something about Opera and Les Saints tho...

I would be surprised they demolish Les Saints and Opera because Les Saints is a salle de spectacle and Opera, well they are the biggest nightclub of Montreal and they host a couple of corporate events there and there.

Maybe the city is tired of the over capicity nights tho

Kinda sucks because I love Opera (and the chebizes) the sundays! But for the rest, raze this crap!!

Posted by Vermz on May-20-2009 04:39:

I actually read the blogs on cyberpresse.ca this morning and most of the people are against the projects. I got pissed off by reading all those fucking hippies and colon de St-Timothe Du Lac aux Renards bullshitting about this shithole been a PATRIMOINE DE LA VILLE and yelling against the OSTI DE CAPITALISTES DE PROJET DE LUXE A $$$CASH$$$ that prefer to eat cheap fries & hot dogs and see fucked crackheads sleeping or having sex with dogs on the sidewalk.

Welcome to QUEBEC!!!

Posted by julien2 on May-20-2009 09:17:

Posted by Marcus007 on May-20-2009 14:01:

but where will the girls go on sunday if opera doesn't exist?

my house????

Posted by dutty.persian on May-20-2009 17:54:

i couldn't care less what it turns out to be. What it is right now is a dump full of crackheads, prostitutes, bums. I live 3 blocks away and think that st-laurent/st-catherine is an eyesore, a shame... the st-laurent strip from rene-levesque to sherbrooke is a major dump. everything is bankrupt.

The point is, it needs to be torn down. Some buildings you can't plaster holes and paint a new coat. It wouldn't be economically feasible. tear it down, rebuild some nice commerce and some residences. leave the labelle province :P

Posted by malek on May-20-2009 17:56:

it'll be an office building with some bio-food stores and the likes.

Posted by Ravemontreal on May-20-2009 17:58:

So basically "equitable" means that we can expect hairy whores that charges twice more. That sucks, because nothing beats a 5$ job with a Montreal Pool Room hot-dog.

Posted by dutty.persian on May-20-2009 18:08:

is thr 5$ for the blow job or the hot dog? or is there a combo special: eat your hot dog while you get your other hot dog polished?

Posted by malek on May-20-2009 18:10:
