Hard trance is hard but still maintains all of the uplifting trancey elements, hardstyle is much harder, faster and often 'darker'. The emphasis isn't placed on the synths and melody.

The stuff Kai Tracid & Warmdusher play is a mixture of hardtrance & Hardstyle

Umek is full out techno

Gielen isn't hardtrance, he just plays it because its said to be "cool" here in holland

1. Progressive techno doesn't exist
2. None of Cosmic Gate's tracks are techno
3. Umek is 100% techno

then how do you call cosmic gate's harcore track?

Read This!

Pointless discussion.Everyone will have a different view on an artist's music than the other. So quit arguing.

As for Warmduscher,it is a duo, consisting of Thilo Markwort + Kai MacDonald aka Kai Tracid.

listen to its bass and structure, u'll never find a techno track with such a bass. it's unacceptable for techno. i don't know why but when many people hear a steady bass that doesn't go anywhere they automatically think that track is techno. but it's not! techno in general is not characterized by its bass. a hard bass is not what makes it techno. call it hard trance or hardstyle, i don't care... but one think i know for sure 'hardcore' by cosmic gate has nothing to do with techno

WTF??!!?

Svenson & Gielen are NOT hard trance!!!!!
where da hell did u get that idea from??!?!?

yes it is..

Warmdusher as a producer is kai tracid with some other guy, as a DJ its just that other guy

Hey guys, why do you always have to go and ruin good song by trying to class them into a genre. The whole idea of a good song is that it breaks a genre, it new, different to anything before it.

To help settle your argument but:

Cosmic Gate = hard trance (Loud, strong bass, good melodies)

Kai Tracid = hard [insert styles here, commonly used: trance/techno/house/dance]

u can delete techno from your list - kai tracid is as far from techno as vengaboys from trance

Posted by Eugene on Jun-22-2002 16:33:

I always thought Kai Tracid was Acid-Trance...

Posted by Noisician on Jun-22-2002 18:40:

Trance? Yes
Acid Trance? Occasionally and definitely not at its best <-- that's if u were only talking about K. McDonald as Kai Tracid alone (A*S*Y*S is a completely different case)

Posted by evil_bastard on Jun-22-2002 20:39:

Is hardstyle a Dutch word? I've never heard it here.

I think Acid Trance is the best way to define Kai Tracid, even if it's not totally accurate, as it's more a combination with hard trance. His music has plenty of 303's for a trance track, but also has the bass that you get with hard trance.

A lot of people seem to call all sorts of music techno. I saw on a TV Chart music programme today someone describe Scooter as techno! Fucking hell!

For a while I didn't actually know what techno was, but if you download some stuff from Dave the Drummer, Chris Liebing, Umek, Ben Sims, Christian Valera, and so on, you will definitely see a big difference between this and any type of trance.
