Traditional DJ Gets Insulted By Digital DJ On Beatportal And Goes Nuts

quote:
What a load of bullshit that,s been going around here. what is the problem with djs beatmatching only. dood, dj-is IS based on the principles of beatmixing. I really want to re-visit these comments in 10 years time to see how all these big super djs spew their shit at people who dont masturbate to their fucking nerd touch screens and the million-dollar-tracktor-fucktor shit house programs. I have never wished I had the opportunity to play in Ibiza. Never wanted to rock-da-house-cos-Im-superfucking-hot. I play good music. I beatmix. And people like it. And I still get gigs all over the place. People are interested in the music. They dont give a fuck how much a super fucking nerd you are. Thats for insiders. People just wanna know whether you have music they can dance to. I use fucking tractor.. Yes? Ask the first girl or boy entering the dance floor if they give two fucks. If you use it, than good for you. If not (like me), than its none of your fucking business. Dont call me boring or narrow minded. The time you spend with clicking with you dick...sorry...mouse, I spend finding the best tracks I want to play. I bet, you all thought 10 years ago you were the king shit, cos you could beat mix on two 1200s. So that leaves me what? We all do the same thing, right? Play fucking music cos we love it. Dont give me this shit that you better just beacuse you had $500 to buy a tracktor and spend your empty life trying to learn it. I keep playing my music as I have been, beacuse it works. You know how it is...no need to fix it. Oh yes...I DO appreciate technology. I just do not care much about it, because I think DJ-ing is about finding it in your heart and sould. Remember what Eddie Amador said about house music? DJ-ing is just as simple, but hard to explaing. If you dont get it than you dont get it. If you dont get that you dont get it. If you dont get ithan you dont get it. (thats your fucking loop right there and it only took me a dell keyboard)

That made little to no sense

Maybe the guy should be a little bit more concerned about his grammatical skills

Here's the link to the original article. Cool interview with Joris Voorn.

Alright thanks

elitism is the one thing I hate the most within the music world, so bad.

Just a little defensive there, screaming butthurt. His point about people using traktor don't spend as much time finding music is just not logical. If traktor makes it easier, it's probably faster as well, which in the end gives you more time for everything else.

Posted by SuspicionVandit on Jun-25-2009 07:09:

in a jist, he says
"Hey, back off. It's my personal choice to use the traditional method for DJing and you should not attack me as old-fashioned for such. I respect your choice to go digital, and I ask that you do not attack me since I do not attack you. But suck my dick and eat shit you fucking asshole. No disrespect. Peace. If you dont get it than you dont get it. If you dont get that you dont get it. If you dont get ithan you dont get it. (thats your fucking loop right there and it only took me a dell keyboard)"

that last part is pretty funny. I think this guy is crazy and should not be taken a zebra of salt.

traktor sucks anyways.

Posted by stevsto on Jun-25-2009 14:17:

that guy is awesome. i want to buy him drinks for the whole night. djs that entered this hobby in the digital way will probably never understand the old analog beauty. there is something about vinyl that will never be reproduced digitally, like comparing an oil painting to a digitally created "painting". there is a sort of infinite bit rate to analog, there is no bit rate it can be limited to. like light passing through a diamond (or sound passing through a diamond tip record needle). and then two of them beat matched ever so slightly off, adjusting the speed live with the pitch slider instead of pushing the record or touching the platter or spindle, the slight imperfection expressing a human's focus and passion and desire that can be felt through the speakers, sound bouncing around the walls of the room. so romantic! im swooning just thinking about it. (blush)

Have you used it?

And people wonder what destroyed trance and EDM in general , everyone is too busy bitching, claiming who is better and generally falling out over all sorts of stupid shit.
I see people falling out over who's sound engine is better , whos DAW is better , Whos VSTi , Synth , turntables , genre , set , computer , life , schedule , house , car , music theory , bassline , percs , melodies , mixing , effects units and whos EP is the best thing since sliced bread.

And while this is going on , in a huge mass brawl on the floor ,Some people are just focusing on the job in hand , to get music to the people and put on good shows with good music no matter how its produced.

And then they wonder how tiesto , deadmau5 , armin and other big names got where they are today.

And the sad fact is?

Look at my sig , Why should i have to do that?

If it was anything like my experience with Serato Itch and the Numark NS7 at my local music store, then no, you really don't have enough experience with it to make an informed judgment. Traktor is the shit.

'infinite' bit rate if it was recorded/produced using analog...

otherwise i pretty much agree with you.

JORIS VOORN: You can do so much to the music now, and can control so many aspects of it. There are endless possibilities.

everyone always says this - 'endless possibilities' i've never heard a 'digital dj' do something with his technology that moves me more than a great record.

who needs endless possibilities when you just need a few of the best

SO fucking true and the essence of why to me Ableton is not for DJing.

Quite on the same page with you here.

I've heard a variety of interesting things produced out of Ableton, no doubt, but few of those instances have resonated with me in the same way a particularly solid record does.

As much credit as I give to some of those who have devoted a great portion of their focus to using the technology to create/manipulate in order to build something that is more than the sum of its parts (and I don't mean to downplay the potential offered here one bit), it often feels like digital tinkering for its own sake, and rather unsatisfying.

Posted by Adam420 on Jun-25-2009 23:57:

I just wanted to mention...that I totally disagree with the notion that somebody who spins vinyl is likely to play better music than somebody who plays digitally. Sure, quality control is A LOT better if you're restricted to vinyl, but there's no reason why somebody who knows their shit can't come up with an equally as good if not better TL than somebody who uses records.

uh beatmatching with a few new things to play around with? no thanks. i'll stick with ableton live

Posted by Adam420 on Jun-26-2009 02:14:

I don't have extensive experience with abelton live but unless you are planning on playing more than 4 tracks at once or use a keyboard/beat pad/sequencer/etc...then I don't really see the point, tbh.

and as well as produce full length tracks

it's really 2 pieces of software in one package.

and there's a lot of little features that can produce huge effects

such as looping VST parameters live, you can't do that stuff in traktor.

so now we have deejays, producers/live performers, and wannabes who can do neither and just fuck with other people's works of art by adding looping vst parameters and layer inane drum loops and delays

dude i agree to a certain extent but i think it's because the established digital dj hasn't done it right yet. joris voorn did something interesting with balance014, but still did it wrong (imo) and it ended up being a convoluted end-product.

the possibility is there, but people keep on fucking it up by trying to do too much at once, not do enough, or just being outright boring.

sure,

that was my point. endless possibilities aren't the answer.

insight, creativity, spirit, cleverness, etc are all that are needed, and they select the best possibilities.

with endless possibilities you also end up with endless shitty products
