Magadansky - Ancient Artifacts [Suomi, Goa, ProgPsy, Full-On, Ambient]
Hi guys, just had some spare time and I made not one but five mixes in various styles! I will present them to you not in the same banal way but like disguised mixes behind different artifacts dating from the Antiquity period in Ancient Thrace. Those artifacts are known as the Borovo treasure (since it was discovered nearby a small village in Bulgaria named Borovo) and it consists of 5 artifacts made out of silver and gilt and which belonged to an ancient king known as Kotys I.
This vessel is known as a rhyton, vessel only used during special rituals or wine-drinking feasts. Every rhyton has a tiny hole at the bottom from which the wine passes through. This one has as a decoration a beautiful Thracian goddess known to represent the fertility of the lands and their peaceful nature. The lands of these people were so rich mainly because they had all four seasons and the nature reborned herself every spring from the winter dream even more beautiful than before. Learn more about their beautiful nature guarded by their goddess here:

The second rhyton out of the three rhytons in this set. This one represents an animal, symbol of the male fertility and power. Drinking from a rhyton symbolising a bull or a taurus would result in a restoration of your strenght, your view to the world will be rejoiced. Learn more about this symbolic here:

These people praised their horses not only during their rituals but also in their everyday life. All the heroes and kings are riding horses. The magnificent horses were also decorated with beautiful jewels and other ornaments in order to testify the power of their hero. Drinking from a rhyton like that one rejoices your strength as well. This jug is unique not only because its made out of silver and gilt but also because of the scene described on it. The scene, representing a feast in which even gods are participating along side with many mythological creatures, heroes and ordinary people. The party is filled with red wine and not a single participant is left without a drink. Since these people did believe that there is an afterlife, they weren't really caring about their Earth one, so the parties were very frequent. And why they should? In this after life, they thought, only parties there will be, no need to work. Who knows, maybe they are right. Learn more about their feasts here:

This huge plate is known as a phiale, another vessel used for the feasts and the red wine. But these beautiful huge phiales were reserved only for the highest figure in their society itself, the King, and more particularly Kotys the First, the one that created the huge united Thracian state, one of the most powerful states in the Balkan Peninsula for its time. All the internal conflicts were forgotten, the only thing that was important now is the glorious development of the Thracian culture and life across all the territories. Trading and cultural interactions with other civilizations from that time were not forbidden as well. Known are many, like the ones with the Ancient Greek, Macedonians, Persians and so on. This marvelous culture was living its Golden Age during that time. Learn more about it here:

I'm all over this, what a variety of styles! I'm going to listen to these all next week and post my review for each! Looking forward to it, Mag!
The pure idea of coming up with such a compilation deserves already great respect!
This shows (at least to me) that your soul and heart are deeply connected to music. People who create thoughtfully, who give their work a name and meaning are the type of artist that I like most.
No technology in mixing can replace the love for music!
Btw. you should upload this on the bowl, too.
Whoaaa
I am sooo all over this
and the descriptions u added for each mix are verrrry insightful.
i will return with my feedback once ive heard them all
I gather you have them posted in the same order as the title of the thread lists the genres?

I always try to give a name to my mixes and what they represent in my opinion. It feels that you are much more attached to the music that way.
My bad, I thought you uploaded your ambient mixes 1-10 there yourself. But obviously you are not succotash since he didn't mark them as readers mixes...
I guess I'll do it then.

EDIT: Tada!

A Beautiful God is obviously the Ambient mix. So pretty, I love the birds, the waves, and the mood this is creating. I was actually kind of disappointed when the beats came in, I would have just as soon listened to the strings and waves and birds all day.
35 minutes through, and I'm in love. Ambient has always been such a wonderful style to listen to, but this time, I feel like I'm floating. Every single track has been perfect, although I need more birds...
Oh fuck, what is this track at 40 minutes? How awesome!
Not a fan of the sounds at 48 minutes, it's a tad on the harsh side. Not really a fan of this track in general. Sorry
Okay, so I took a massive 4 hour break at around 54 minutes, and I am starting back up again.
A bit of an odd transition at 59 minutes, I guess one of those things where you go from outro->intro at the last minute. Not too disturbing, though.
The rest of the set was nice, got a little dark for me(ambiance-wise) toward the end, but it was still good nonetheless. What was the point of the proggy track at the very end? It was a cool way to end, but I feel like it was out of place.
I liked this! It's very soothing, I will check out your other Ambient mixes when I get a chance!
Ambient down, suomi (
), prog-psy, full-on, and goa to go!

A Bull-Shaped Rhyton is your prog-psy mix, obviously. I doubt I'll have too much trouble with this one
Very powerful first track, at first I was a tad confused, it seemed a bit full-on. Hrm, your first mix was surprisingly quick. I didn't feel like you held that transition longer than 15 seconds!
Digging 11:20, great part of the track!
20 minutes in, this mix is pretty pumping. I like it quite a bit, seems to be a lot more powerful than my prog mix
Bopping my head to 24 minutes.
I recognize the track at 34 minutes, what is this? This track is absolutely sick!!
You lost some of your energy in the next 2 tracks, but what can you expect after such a powerhouse tune? It'd be hard for ANYONE to follow that track with something even remotely close to its energy.
I thought the last track was a kinda weak compared to the rest of the mix, I feel like you peaked a little past halfway and then just finished off the set without any real stompers, but still flowing fairly well; the 3-4 tracks after your peak were all very similar and yummy, but not quite up to par with the rest of your tracks.
Overall, I liked this a lot! You banged out a bunch of awesome tracks which I'm going to have to hunt down, but didn't finish as well as I was hoping. Some of your transitions seemed rather quick, but not TOO quick where it could have messed up the flow. Still excellent, and personally I thought this was better than Visions of Crystals (even tho I'd need another listen to compare properly). Good job!
Full-on is coming up next, don't disappoint me!
A Horse-Shaped Rhyton is your full-on set. Ready to party on this one!
First couple of tracks weren't really my cup of tea, but 14 minutes in you start really talking to me here
:
I was afraid of this... I've sorta grown tired of the full-on with flowing goa-influenced melodies. I feel like it's played out, and has no imagination or creativity. While it's not necessarily BAD, I don't find it very interesting anymore IMO
I like the synth at 29 minutes in the background. This track is actually pretty nice!
The following track is interesting, the tribal chants worked better than I expected.
45 minutes is what I'm TALKING ABOUT! Here we go, this isn't very full-on, as much as it is some rather dark psytrance. I dig this. I was worried this set wouldn't have any tracks that stood out!
The last track was good, but I feel a lack of energy present in this set. While it was a nice mix to listen to, I felt like I've heard it all before. Sorry, dude, I just don't think this was one of your best mixes. I even felt your prog-psy mix had more energy than this one. Overall, your transitions were very solid, no mistakes, but the track selection (with the exception of a few) didn't quite do it for me this time.
Suomi and Goa to go! I'll listen to those in a bit, I'm gonna eat some lunch now
A Jug Representing a Feast is your Suomi mix. I don't really know anything about Suomi; in fact, this is my first Suomi set that I've ever heard, so this will be pretty new to me.
10 minutes in, and so far, it's trippy as fuck, and I'm having a hard time following it
Lots of cool stuff here. My mind feels like it's being raped, 26 minutes in particular. Some of it is trancy and pretty and other stuff is majorly pure twisted psychedelia. Did you put any Texas Faggot in here?
Ooh, fat ass bass at 39 minutes, this is a new track. What a wild genre, I never expected this kind of stuff.
This set blew my mind, I never expected such a wild trip hidden within Suomi trance. That seems to be another level of psy that a lot of producers ignore. I'd like to hear more of these in the future! Great job!

The last set (goa) is the longest one, I hope you like it!
A Marvelous Silver Phiale is clearly the Goa mix (captain obvious to the rescue!).
Right off the bat is some super energetic Goa, this first track absolutely dominates! I listened to that 60 minute Neo Goa set of yours a while ago and found it a little dull in some places, but if a majority of the tracks here are anything like this first one, I'm in for a hell of a ride!
So far it's been very juicy and tasty goa, I've enjoyed this quite a bit. 45 minutes in is really cool, I like the rapidfire melody. I'm shocked at how long this set is! I have over an hour to go still! lol
Mag, I thought this set was very nice. I liked it better than your other most recent Goa set. Excellent job!
Give yourself 4/5 good marks for this round
Thanks for the review ziptnf! I really appreciate your honest opinion about the mixes!
Thanks again!
Done, dusted, listened to them all! In order of preference:
Goa: Bloody loved this! Went on a bit longer than I felt needed, as Goa tends to not have much variation, so trimming it down to cd length would have been ideal for me. Certainly had some amazing tunes though, good job!
Full-on: Again, really enjoyed this one, tracks were much to my liking. The odd slippy mix, but overall a nice set of tunes.
Ambient: I liked it, and can appreciate that it's a tricky genre to 'mix'. Wicked for chilling out in the sun to.
Prog psy: The first half of this mix was very much to my tastes (if a tad faster than I would play), and the mixing was solid, but the second half went considerably full-on very quickly, and I didn't really feel the rest of the mix.
Suomi: Not really my think at all I'm afraid, the odd track was alright, and the Futurama samples in the first track made me chuckle, but the random structure of the mix coupled with some questionable tracks (imo) didn't really work for me.
*high five*
