TAs Share Their Classics game?

Having spotted a few of the excellent Choice: A Collection of Classics compilations from Azuli while music shopping recently, I had the idea that we could do something similar on TA. There are loads of people on here who I'd like to hear share their classics/favourites just as much as any famous DJ. I'm sure everyone has a list of tracks they'd love to play, but have never had the chance to put in a set.

So I was thinking of a game where a TA member is PM'd each month and invited to make a mix of their favourites. If they accept, they have a month to choose their tracks and put together their set. The mix will be under 80 minutes so it could fit on a CD and have a mix-tape feel to it, with technical skill not particularly important. The onus would be less on dancefloor bombs and more on personal favourites. Each month would have a different installment.

So... any enthusiasm for this idea?

That's a really interesting idea... I'd like to see it happen.

Yeah, that's a nice idea.

depends on what genre though...

I don't think genre should really matter at all. What I took away from SYSTEM-J's post was that someone would make a mixtape type mix which compiles a large collection of their favorite music, whatever that may be.

LOL, why must we always think of genres?

Sounds pretty jive.

Great idea!

Won't there be plenty of people who are like I can't mix?

They can follow the format the_voice has with his lady gaga tribute mixes. Let me know if you need a link for visual/auditory evidence.

That sounds pretty promising.

i would do it, but i'm on vacation and will surely be banned by morning. Too bad because i just bought most of jay tripwire's back catalog.

Genre doesn't matter. That's one of the points of making it more of a mix-tape than a technical set, so you can throw in whatever you want and not worry about it slotting together perfectly.

Well, I'll probably be inviting people who post mixes in this section for the most part. Even if there are only thirty well known DJing members here, that would keep the game going for two and a half years.

That said, almost anyone can get a trial version or a free program from somewhere online and put together one mix, especially if the emphasis is away from mixing. As I picture it, a member will be PM'd four days before the latest mix goes up, and they'll have those four days to accept, decline or sort something out so they can take part. Then they'll have a whole month to put together an 80 minute mix of tracks they already own. The only real hard work would be choosing your tracks.

yeah, this is a cool idea

it's similar to a regular listening party that i have been trying to start up, i think next month it will start for sure.

i try to do this essentially with all of my mixes, but have a ton of stuff i'd like to share that i have never managed to put in.

it'd be cool,if the participants are up for it, to have a few lines of text written about the selections as well

Yeah, I was going to suggest this. I'm not a massive fan of DJs who explain every track and why they used it in their mixes, but it's obviously different when you're selecting personal classics.

I love this idea, and if you run out of DJ's I've done a few sets ( just too embarrassed to post them haha).
