Trance 2010

You know, trance music always change.

before, trance music standard bpm was 138-142. Look at these days, trance bpm getting slower and slower. one good example is take a look of cosmic gate music (a sign of the times), I think this is not trance anymore, i know its quality music, but its a bit boring (makes me SLEEPY) most of the song use side-chaining and the bpm is only 130+.

in my opinion, early trance has more beautiful melody, while the bpm keep running fast (around 138-142), that makes us to feel "trance". however, there are lots of cheesy sound and cheesy bassline.

today trance (2009), the melody is getting nonsense. but the quality improve so much. No cheese but sometimes it makes be bored.

I wonder what will happened in 2010. Does the bpm getting slower again? or going back to its root (138-142)?

"Sign of Times" and quality music are not to be in the same sentence.

first rave will have to re-arrive, then we can slightly go over to real trance again.

None of this makes any sense.

to be honest, it'll be the same as now.

Binary Finary knew what they were doing when they named 1998. I bet they've made some coin out of that track. I wonder if we'd have seen all them remixes if they'd give it a normal name.

There is plenty of trance being produced in the 135+ range. I don't believe BPM changes will ever be indicative of a new era in trance. Different producers use different BPM's for different songs.

Have you looked at their 'appears on' list, 95% of those are of 1998.

As opposed to most of the ppl that have posted, I think trance is moving in the right direction. Everything that has anything to do with marketing becomes commercial. Its an up-and-down pattern, but trance is becoming more respectable in the eyes of those who disapproved of it before. Those who have liekd trance before are disapproving it....same kind of pattern, same kind of result as everything else in the world.

So in otherwords you mean trance is being dumbed down for the mass public. I don't see how that's a positive thing.

Meh hopefully more Union Jacks still come out.

Cosmic Gate is supposed to be Hard Trance, maybe that's just something that was with their earlier works? Cosmic Gate really has some good songs, I'm waiting on my Rhythm and Drums CD from them any day now.
BPM average is probably just a sign of the times(yes, a pun).

I didn't know any artist was "supposed to be" anything.

Maybe a better phrase for you is "perceived to be". Isn't that better?
Well Cosmic Gate is listed under Hard Trance under Wikipedia's list, and I know Wikipedia certainly isn't the most respected site but still that would fit into Cosmic Gate being perceived as Hard Trance by some people anyways.

They haven't been for a few years... Since Nic took over production or something.

I often wonder what the next big phase of EDM will be, for the past year or 2 I have been thinking that there will be a major influence of drum and bass and breakbeat in a lot of EDM, especially in a commercial sense. I'm not a particular fan of the genre, I just think it may be time for this particular type of sound.
