Re: Blueshift - Universal Soundz 200 Guestmix [Nu-Disco/Prog House]

Some great tracks here, you had a fair bit of variation between everything without losing any sense of cohesion/theme. The last track was my favourite, it had some very cool sounds. The mixing was spot on, very smooth and pleasing. However, I had a couple of issues with flow. The second half was good, but the first not so much.

The Empire of the Sun track seemed really strangely placed to me. It really killed the mood. I think it would serve as a nice closing track to wind down a night, but in this position it was a bit too mellow.

The song straight after that was really cool though (is it based on Peach's theme from Mario? It sounds vaguely nintendo-ish) and had a great unique feel. However, to me this one also felt weirdly placed. It also has a very 'final' feel to it and I think it would be better towards the end of a set.

Otherwise, great work. I liked all the tracks in one way or another.

Thanks man. I agree about the flow in some places. I really wanted to do a slower disco set but as this was a guestmix for a show that usually has trance/progtrance, I had to keep the energy up while still running the line of putting in some more disco-y tunes I wanted in there.

Peach (definitely named for the nintendo style) and the Mega Bit Me remix are my favs as well

Downloaded this at home and listened at the gym the other night... really nice job, Sam! I absolutely loved the track selection (nu disco + funky prog = total win), and the pacing. Only (minor) complaint was that the mixing between Atlantis and Gamma Ray seemed to be slightly out of key.

I just wish I could d/l it at work, getdropbox and soundcloud are blocked

Posted by lenazi on Sep-21-2009 19:14:

alright, you sometimes listen to my hippy music, so imma give this nerd mix a chance

Posted by kadomony on Sep-22-2009 02:22:

thx m8s.

jay, i got yours d/ling. gonna listen to it in the next couple days

Posted by lenazi on Sep-25-2009 19:00:

not my usual but i did enjoy the kris menace and daniel portman tracks. I can't say anything negative about the mixing really as it was well executed.

I can agree with the video gamey comment a bit, but then again chalk that one up to musical preference. Keep up k
