Union Jack - Two Full Moons & A Trout (Orkidea remix) | Platipus

I've been looking forward for this for quiet some time. I've heard the first "draft" last year, so I already kind of knew what to expect, but now hearing the finished mix I still gotta say I'm stunned by it. Though it can be seen more as a remix of the Caspar Pound mix, like Orkidea said before, I still think he's done a very good job in making the track sound fresh, adding small elements to it that complements the track so well, but at the same time still keeping that "old school" vibe.

We need more of this. 9/10.

Release date: 21 September 2009

Full track can be heard on Orkidea's myspace

Orkidea still alive?

Posted by RebeL9 on Sep-12-2009 02:52:

I think it's decent. For being a remix of the Caspar Pound remix it sure lacks the best part of that remix; the end climaxe. That is what makes Caspar Pound remix so freaking amazing. The tune just builds and builds and that long break and then BANG!

This is still a good effort by Orkidea.

I want this. SO bad.

I like it. Can't wait for the EP!

Been waiting for this too. Fantastic job from Orkidea! Could be a tune of the year for me.

edit: Oh this version isn't actually the same he played on his Scandinavia set. That one was perfect to me, the string section at the end is gone now

pretty good, but still nothing can touch the Chab mix :P

Really a rather bad remix. Orkidea has sadly lost it. Is Nicklas Renqvist not producing with him anymore? This is just generic "trance" unlike his past productions which were really something quite special.

Like this one

Good job from Orkidea, like always

Thanks for the feedback and nice comments to everybody!

Support coming from Above & Beyond, Solarstone, John 00 Fleming, Thrillseekers, Jose Amnesia etc...

Here is a link to the release in Beatport:

My remix available as "album only" track on the Pylon Pigs Club EP though...

that's a bit harsh don't you think? i mean i love the old tracks produced with nicklas as much anyone, but these new ones are extremly good aswell. imo after a few more regular uplifters (beautiful, melancholy, revolution, the calling remix and such) orkidea's new productions just by himself finally start to have that same oldschool magic that the old ones had. and i think this track for instance really stands out among all the other uplifters out there.

Harsh or not, it's how I see it. I have no need to compliment the track just cuz it's made by Orkidea and he's "the holy Finnish trance DJ" and participates on these boards every now and then. I really think he's gone downhill and bad since the "good old days". Now his stuff is pretty much just standard "trance", which I don't like at all.

His old stuff is pretty much my favorite type of music ever. Some of his newer stuff is ok too (Metaverse had a few tracks I liked). But Metaverse was definitely disappointing IMO and everything that has come out after it hasn't sounded good at all to me. But even before Metaverse I felt that he's going somewhat downhill and I did get a confirmation on that with the release of Metaverse.

I have no idea how much of an effect Nicklas Renqvist had in Orkidea's past productions and if Orkidea is producing solo now, but it definitely seems like something has changed and I personally don't like it one bit.

I think I'm gonna put "Leama - Labyrynth (DJ Orkidea Remix)" on now and reminisce the golden days.

I think much of the stuff he makes nowadays is made with Petri "Lowland" Alanko.

And back to the topic. I consider myself huge Orkidea-fan. I love Radio Unity's and I like many tracks from Metaverse and I think it's pretty good album but this one... It might be because my usual way of thinking that reworks aren't usually that good or maybe it's because of the track itself, but I really don't think highly on this one (or remix of Ajare). I have heard this at home as well as in the club but in both enviroment, I want this just dull. It doesn't reach the level of the original track, not even close. But at least it's not that mnml/electro-bollocks most producers make nowadays.

And I think I will put Labrynth on too...

Nah, that's good too, but not even close to the best Orkidea tracks or even Slusnik Luna's Sun.

I do like the released version but i've now also heard the one with the strings and would have wanted that to be the released version.

Didn't like this remix and i agree that Orkidea was better years ago but who wasn't? He still makes good stuff once in a while. Slusnik Luna is far worse

well the point was to compare that track's sound to labrynth remix. which should answer the question who really had most to do with the labrynth remix, based on the overall sound and riffs atleast.

well they haven't really made much trance in over 6-8 years. "baas" on ava was a bit different than their old style, but their previous trance track was the 'last train to transcentral' remake which rocked bigtime in my book. other than those i can't remember anything they've done since those old records (and the chillout album)

Posted by breakaholic on Oct-18-2009 11:51:

Well no matter what Orkidea Or Slusnik Luna sounds is these days. I still rate them above all the other finnish trance/progressive producers. I quess I'm just a fanboy then but I really really like Orkidea's latest stuff. Most importantly his tracks are not overproduced like most of the trance these days.

Well Finland has many talented producers and Matti is one of them. I wonder what's he's been doing lately? I just have big respect for Slusnik & Orkidea, for what they've done in the past (and are still doing). Slusnik Luna guys just doesn't seem to produce that much anymore, atleast not trance. That's unfortunate.

Thumbs up

great remix

Matti Laamanen has made a remix of 'Metaverse'. It was said to be released as a part of the 2nd remix-EP, but it's almost a year since Orkidea has played it his Scandinavia 002 mix and there are no news on that AFAIK.

Posted by GrimReaper on Nov-02-2009 08:39:

There are some other remixes too like Allende remix of Stretching Time which were supposed to come out on the next Metaverse remix EP but never did.
