Who is the producer of the year?

It's almost November, so I think this discussion can be held.

Please nominate whether you're a trance cracker or a mnml hipster fag, because we all know that absolutely everyone on the site falls into one of those categories. No buts.

I'm a (psy) trance cracker and I think Anton Chernikov has been unbeatable this year, both in quality and in quantity.

Under the Crystal Verge alias he's had Nightmare, as well as the newer Sabath. Using his own name he released Rainbow Hunt, as well as remixes of Joof's Nervous Breakdown and 00.db - Oxygene. He's also done a few more mainstream trance tunes which are a cut above the rest of the stuff around at the moment.

if Reboot Twisted Fist is an artist ill vote for that because of the bass in the remix of Saxtrack by Sebo K & Metro. Thanks to the dude posting the luciano set and tracklist so i could find this fucking awesome track. Im a trance cracker but this one just got me eventhough its mnml fag hipster shit.

tiga's had a banner year between his bangin' new album and the solid releases by artists like proxy, brodinski, and the dahlbacks on turbo recordings. his remix of triangle walks was also superb

LOL, the artist is just "Reboot"

Seth Troxler, Matthew Dear, Jamie Jones, Seuil, Dyed Soundorom, Lovebirds, Tensnake, Masomenos, Vincenzo.

Honorable mention goes to Lee Foss both for his work on Hot Natured and his upcoming solo productions. Definitely a talent to watch out for the next couple of years.

Pezzner

He's the only artist whose every release within the past year I have picked up. He's a local, and I've seen him perform far too many times both live and DJ, and each time I have been floored. The man is a fucking solid performer and one of the nicest, most humble people I've met.

Honorable mentions go to Troxler, Dyed Soundorom and Seuil.

Posted by woscar on Oct-26-2009 03:38:

Oh yeah, Pezzner too. Very solid releases, specially on the first half of the year.

I think Mango has had a good year, I wouldn't mind hearing more stuff from him that varies from his signature sound though.

I agree.

I picked up a few releases of his last week on Beatport. Absolutely loved them....

Good Morning (Kazusa remix)
Tokyo 7am
Raining in Osaka (Shingo Nakamura remix)
Sandcastles
Ravenclaw (Mango pres. Tokyo Bay Cruise remix)
At The Edge Of This Mountain (perhaps a little cheesey, but I liked it!)

He reminds me of Paul Keeley and Glenn Morrison, in that I can't imagine him producing in any other style, and if he did, I wonder if he could pull it off? That said, I'd be interested to hear what the results would be of such a production.

I don't know any of these guys. Do they got a record out? I mean an mp3... Damn I guess I should keep my ear on the streets more

Does the kick in their productions sound big and full like 909 layers compressed through a tube compressor or does it sound mnml like the shit people talk themselves into liking?

Go use Discogs and you'll find that your assumptions are terribly wrong. Most of the "mnmlhipsterfag" artists in here actually have many viny-only releases.

You know, I think it's great that you have an opinion that you're so passionate about, but you really should truly educate yourself about that which you oppose lest you continue to look like a dumbass.

Lovebirds and Crazy P

Posted by SYSTEM-J on Oct-26-2009 13:29:

I think this is a largely futile discussion, because everyone will just nominate from their personal niche, and nobody follows every niche closely enough to make anything like an objective comparison of the nominees.

With that said, it has to be an artist Domesticated recommended to me - Abdomen Burst. He's only just started producing in 2009, and just about everything he's touched has been gold. Syntagma was a bomb, Moments Of Love and Sky In Hands were beautiful, and his remixes of Cloudsurfers and Come To Me were atmospheric loveliness.
