Hard or Soft?

The genre of "Trance" is so mixed that sometimes even the pro's can get confused. To me trance is spit up into the soft/chill type tunes, the uplifting/dream genre and the hard style.
I like all of these styles save the too heavy stuff, but it depends on the mood i'm in. It's starting to piss me off as I'm trying to get a style to spin but I can't choose one, they are all so good.

So basicaly, what do you prefer when you go out to a club/rave/party, hard/soft or dream?

Posted by Tsunami One on Jul-03-2002 15:00:

i prefer uplifting/dream. the hard suff is garbage but thats just imo.

Posted by Philby on Jul-03-2002 15:38:

I like it all!
I would prob start with 'progressive' trance, then go into the 'uplifting' and then into hard trance. Thats prob what I would like to hear, a bit of everything. I don't think I would like a whole night of just progressive, too boring! I need power!!!

Posted by stamper on Jul-04-2002 00:17:

Well at clubs i definately prefer to hear something with a bit of eneergy in it, which is usually the hard stuff. I would go nuts seeing dj scot project, dumonde or cosmic gate. I really enjoyed Fergie's set at TT which was a bit harder.

At home i spose i love listening to the uplifting/epic/dream style trance... anything that cheers you up i spose.

Posted by stipsy on Jul-04-2002 01:26:

hard trance with the exception of dumonde is cack....prog and uplifting trance is da stuff

Posted by Simon00 on Jul-04-2002 02:34:

Yeah def prog through to uplifting.

I went to submission on sat night in canberra and the shit that j.jack and pee wee palmed off as trance was just noise. I would have described most of their sets as sirens and alarms, with no soul in sight. It bordered on painful after a while and if they had noticed the dance floor they would have realised this as well.

i cant beleive you didnt take tomatoes to throw at them!

Right. Thats it. I'm taking extra hard rocks to Godskitchen...

Posted by Simon00 on Jul-04-2002 06:17:

Sad tomatoes?

Well we didn't take tomatoes but we did toy with kraft singles to throw around. They would have been appropriate!

Posted by Xavier on Jul-04-2002 08:40:

i like epic/uplifting stuff. Though i must admit i have a huge cravin for hard trance

i love hearin banging tunes like:
Hennes & Cold - The Second Trip (Scot Project remix)
4-Clubbers - Children (Junkfood Junkies Vs Future Breeze remix) Scot Project - Overdrive

Why can't we all just appreciate that people will have different tastes and that our tastes vary from one moment to the next

Sometimes i want to hear chilled out trance, sometimes progressive and then at times i want to hear some bangin' choons to get me going.

it's all good

I don't think you'll need rocks at Godskitchen LOL.

Even if avb and joof played shit I'd still worship them

I adore all types of trance, at home and just listening I love heaps of chillout, ambient, sunday trance which you CANNOT dance to. But when I go out I want more sort of energetic music, uplifting/prog normally does the trick. I don't mind stuff like hennes & cold, but I have to be in the mood, and it can get to you a bit.

Either way I agree "Trance is trance is trance" well said, it DOES all rock!!!

LOL!!

A whole night of progressive would do me just fine.

Start off with that deep, chunky prog-house, move onto the deeper more progressive stuff towards the middle, then end off with some Max-Graham-esque epic shite.

Sounds good to me.

Posted by stipsy on Jul-05-2002 06:14:

nah...i cant handle that stuff anymore...even though i do like prog..the only dj who can really do it for me is sasha...

ive lost hope in seaman after seeing him in march...but digweed is back on track

as for "hard trance"..is it even trance? can we just call it hard nrg or hard house!!!!???

Posted by matt_a on Jul-05-2002 11:54:

I love all trance. I mean I love most dance music.
House, Trance, DnB, Breaks, Techno, Some hardcore (not happy hardcore cheesy shit).
But trance is the best! I love al styles, Uplifting, Chill, Prog

I always go through phases. I just went through a big Uplifting phase listening to all my sets like Ferry and Tiesto and Dumonde.

Now I'm in a progressive trance mood. Listening to all my old Oakey stuff like
The Em World Tour
Ibiza
China
Beunos Aires

Absolutely magical. If you ask me I reckon alot of prog is more emotional than uplifting cause uplifting you go psyco and feel mad but with prog you feel like just nice and sad but happy at the same time. It's realy ggoooooooooooodddddddd!! I need more prog sets! Nice how it never peaks! I love it!

But give me any trance and I'm more than happy!

Posted by Ves on Jul-05-2002 15:09:

I generally like all styles of trance, but I have to be in the right mood to enjoy a certain style. Recently I've been listening to more relaxing and progressive stuff...especially GU013, GU007, GU016 and Oakenfold live at Space, Ibiza. At the moment I can't stand the hard stuff.

If I was at a club I'd want to hear progressive and uplifting.

sooo true! I find progressive very emotional...'tis brilliant stuff.
hmmm, Trancey Ash, we go through phases at the same time...

haha stipsy
i reckon eh .. when u hear track like Dirt Devils - The Drill or Alphazone - Stay ur thinking "people think this is trance rofl"

Posted by Mikrop on Jul-07-2002 04:38:

My perfect music on a night out would be progressive through to uplifting with a few CAREFULLY selected nrg and techno tracks for a bit of energy in the night... I can't stand it when it's the same style all night. The DJ line up would include Sean Quinn, Will E Tell, Master Kaos, and Kat (she played a sick set at ZOS one night a while ago).

Ah well... I can only dream...

PS: It'd be a damn expensive night with a line up like that!!!

hey mikrop, since they're all Melbourne people, Bubble, wet musik, (sean quinn like anywhere) it wouldn't be THAT expensive and a lot of them club hop anyway (play at several places in one night)...

I reckon we could do it! Either club hop ourselves or set it up with a sponsor or two...

hehe whaddya say!?
