FAO TA Nerds (Ben etc)

I'm looking for an all-in-one type security package. My laptop has mcafee on it but the 3 month trial is expiring soon and I'm wondering if there's anything else around which does a better job. 12 months of mcafee is roughly �40 (60 ish dollars) and i'm after something that works as

fireall
spyware blocker
antivirus

etc etc.

suggestions?

I don't either, but really, I'm never terribly concerned with too much getting past my hardware firewall (router).

It's not hard to not get infected with Spyware, just use Adblock Plus on your firefox with an EasyList subscription (free, duh). AVG Free is the best anti-virus out there, it keeps you safe, and is mostly quiet and doesn't hog any RAM until it starts scanning

no. avg on the desktop, mcafee came on the laptop

i'm the same way- my dad feels the need to bog his computer down with so much anti-spyware antivirus blah blah blah and his pc runs like dogshit

i have no virus protection, no firewall, no windows security center shit. i do have anti-spyware apps just in case i sense a problem with my pc but it hasn't happened yet (and therefore i haven't had to use it yet)

pretty much, if you don't browse porn sites and click on popup ads, you won't have a problem. it's what i tell everyone who has spyware/virus problems.

Why not? I would say that's an elementary part of running a computer. You don't even have to visit suspect sites to get viruses anymore. Plenty just scan for open ports and infect that way.

Ian I would recommend BitDefender. It's a bit of a RAM eater, but will only bother you if you have a computer older than two years. It's a firewall, anti-spam, anti-phishing, anti-virus etc.
